Forza Motorsport 7 to be delisted on September 15, 2021
Forza Motorsport 7, the 2017 entry in Microsoft's landmark racing series, will no longer be available for purchase or available on Game Pass as of September 15, 2021. As is standard for delisted games, players who have already purchased it will still be able to redownload it, and online services will still function. To support the title at the end of its life cycle, Forza Motorsport 7 is currently 75% off on the Microsoft Store. Additionally, while it will no longer be available on Game Pass, anyone who played on Game Pass and purchased DLC for it will receive a token to add it to their game library.
According to a Tweet from the official Forza Motorsport Twitter account, Forza games usually need to be delisted after four years due to the third-party licensing deals on real-world vehicles and raceways that begin to expire. Forza Motorsport 6 was delisted in 2019 after its 2015 release, and Forza Horizon 3 was delisted in 2020 after its 2016 release. The reason Motorsport 7's delisting is different, however, is that the Forza series usually releases on a biennial schedule; even-numbered years would feature a Motorsport game from Turn 10 Studios, which focuses on track-racing events, and odd-numbered years had a Horizon game from Playground Games, which tended to be more open-world. However, no Forza titles were released in 2019 or 2020, meaning that as of now there is no Motorsport title replacing 7 for sale. While an eighth Forza Motorsport has been announced, it has no confirmed release date, and Forza Horizon 5 won't be releasing until November 5, 2021. Forza Horizon 4, released in 2018, is still available for purchase.
