that's pretty damn shitty. didn't they try doing this with the xbox one, then all the backlash from fans caused them to renege on all the drm stuff? the only real difference is the need to phone periodically, but it sounds like you do just to play most games.

It was with used games, but yes. Then again the PS5 has basically an unfixable Disc reader unless is fixed by Sony itself.

Overall not getting either this or a PS5 any time soon. Heck some games are selling two times and a half more in PS4 that they do in PS5.

I think it's an over-reaction personally. Everyone was praising Microsoft for the backwards compatibility not long ago and now that it's come to light that the console has to download files to make it happen suddenly it's DRM outrage. I'd even go as far as calling it disingenuous to use the term DRM to describe the logistics of the backwards compatibility.

If you want to pay 70 bucks plus the extra money for the DLC just to "rent" games and then get screwed when they decide to cut the online services down, hey that's your thing, not mine.
What does any of that have to do with the backwards compatibility that I was talking about?

I own a series x console and have had no issues at all, tbh i was also completely against both next gen consoles but i stumbled across some "in stock" All Access Series X console sin Smyths Toy Superstore and took the plunge. I'm glad I did and so far Game Pass Ultimate is providing all my Xbox gaming needs. Also with the PC cross play on most games my kids can join in on the games without any extra subscription too.
Regrading the backwards compatibility and the so called DRM, this is one occasion where i think that MVG has got it wrong in his video. As stated above its not exactly DRM its just files that are needed to play the old games. If they had supplied all the files for every possible back compatible game then people would of started moaning that the back compat files took up too much room on the hard drive etc ... MVG has basically clickbaited people with his video title, knowing all about the Xbox One DRM drama its obvious that his video title was going to draw comparisons to that situation.

Im going to pull pout some of my old OG Xbox games and try it out for myself.

They're trying E3 2013 again to see if it works.

It wont.

No that was ALLOT worse, the original DRM required a 24 hour check to play games (both disc and DD), even on the ‘home’ console.

You also had no choice but to sell disc based games through authorised dealers.
