The itch.io storefront is now available from the Epic Games Store storefront

Epic Games heard you like storefronts, so they're putting a storefront inside a storefront. Itch.io, an indie marketplace for smaller games has added their platform to the Epic Games Store, letting you browse new games on Itch within Epic's application. This isn't an acquisition or buyout, but rather just an opportunity that Itch sees to bring their titles to a new platform, all without Epic taking any cut from their profits, according to a comment from a representative of Itch.io. The EGS has also added some other additional applications that aren't video games to its storefront today, including the Brave browser, iHeartRadio, and Krita, with chat program Discord set to be added sometime in the future.

Cool for people who already have the epic store, but I don't see why someone who doesn't would prefer to install an additional store when they can just download from itch.io directly without installing anything. I already put up with steam and that's enough for me.

I also don't see the appeal of using a game store to download apps. EGS doesn't run on phones. So, why should it act like a mobile app store? Also, yes, I think Steam is just as bad when it comes to this..

Epic's intention is to bring EGS to Android and IOS too (and the ongoing antitrust case with Apple is due to that). So they will be literally offering mobile apps and games as well on mobile platforms if they win the case in court. Probably they will also include a dedicated section for mobiles on PC launcher and visa versa as well where you can directly buy stuff from whatever platform you're on for convenience.

It's a middle man, that would more than likely be made to stay running just to run these apps you don't even need it for.

Not precisely, they don't require Epic to run in the background at all. Epic is basically provides raw setup file to download and let you auto update apps that doesn't support auto update feature in nature like Krita for example and nothing more really. It's not anything like how apps works on Steam. Although, I do appreciate that Steam and now Epic is providing apps on their store. Because especially the paid professional apps don't support regional pricinig on their websites but if they list products on Steam or Epic they offer regional pricing thanks to Valve and Epic for their already established regional pricing infrastructure.

Also keep in mind that upcoming Qualcomm's Switch-like Android gaming handheld is planned to support the Epic Games Store app on its portable at launch.

Yo dawg! I heard you like reviews. So I put a review in a review.

This review is okay.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

In all honesty, this move is just to improve brand image. Here comes Epic, standing up for the little guy.

Hmm. I do like all in one installer programs (it has been years since I have set up a Windows PC without using https://ninite.com/ , indeed what was once navigating in internet exploder to get firefox or something is now grabbing that and then installing adblock on whatever browsers it gets).

As far as itch.io cross pollination/promotion. I did not necessarily expect that one, though it makes sense.

Anyway let the flame war as EGS was mentioned in a non negative light commence.
---Wow! I have never heard of ninite before now and I LOVE it! That is going ot save me so much time - Thank youuu!

No worries. I don't install that many laptops and PCs these days -- between phones and people just buying new ones when old ones break (which also happens less and upgrades never more meaningless) to have their browser (or me with some transfer program) install all their old settings + NAS or online file storage restore any documents it is just not as called for. That said it is very nice to not even have to load up the USB drive of wonder and click install for everything, and update said drive every other day because one of the programs had a new version.

It is also really nice for doing remote installs.

Hmm. Epic doing the right thing for once. I'm surprised.
Remember Desura? I guess there's no hope of anyone trying to prop up that dessicated corpse. Oh well.

Remember that giant Bundle for Racial Justice and Equality? Coming up on the first anniversary soon. Ever play anything from it?
I remember getting Desura keys on Humble Bundle. And never bothering to even look up what Desura was. I just used the DRM free downloads whenever there weren't Steam keys included.

So now I get to launch a launcher so that I can launch another launcher? Who on earth is going to do that? Just install it separate.

I think it is more about those that might only be on Epic (which is presumably the Fortnite set) might in turn be exposed to the more experimental stuff that is usually the fare of itch.io, and likely not the sorts of things they tend to see.
