Wait, could this coldboot cfw while letting us retain the Wii U quick boot menu on the GamePad? That menu can't be utilized with CBHC as it stands now, but I get the impression that a boot1 coldboot might allow for both to finally coexist. At least I really hope it does.

Don't get your hopes up, this will lead to nothing. It has a high brick risk and you have basically no brick protection.

with out needing to buy a DS game
Just wait for Maschell's Aroma, it works without a DS game and is faster and more stable than Haxchi. I posted a preview article here: https://wiidatabase.de/einblick-in-aroma-die-neue-homebrew-umgebung-fuer-die-wii-u/ (use Google Translate)

You can get coldboot using only the browser exploit, so DS VC is not the only option. But this is nice. Not using CBHC frees up the DS VC for Haxchi to load into HBL, which previously was a bit tricky to do with CBHC unless you had 2 VC games, one with CBHC and one with Haxchi. As launching HBL from CBHC means you are not in CFW and you can't install or run anything that requires CFW.
im not sure how they would implement this without a hack already installed, theres no serial port of any kind on the wiiu other than i think the IR sensor port maybe? (im sure i read the wiis sensor port could do some things) and i dont think you can load any data off the SD card so early in the chain
Browser exploit.

Aw. That's too bad.

Aroma looks nice, but it's not really a new coldboot method. It uses the same system.xml title redirection that CBHC uses. So it will be just as slow to boot and have the same drawbacks. Except you can't really delete/move the H&S app I guess. A proper coldboot would be much better.

Sounds good, release shouldn't be too far away hopefully. You say some existing HB is not supported? Have you tried Retroarch?
Does it currently run in Aroma?

aroma requires a ds game just like haxchi?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I thought it was something installed to the health and safety tile or any official system tile.

So rw-r-r-0644 found a boot1 coldboot exploit for the Wii U. Hopefully this will lead to a coldboot executable with out needing to buy a DS game. so once the eShop does go down we will be still have homebrew one way or another.

btw, I got some rest last night, so I'm less cranky today. :D I dreamed of a link to the past, playing it, and my friend was trying to do a 3 heart run, but accidentally got a fourth heart. I wasn't though. I was playing normally. :P

I would love to believe this is a breakthrough for the WiiU Homebrew community however we are in 2021 and not 2012, most developers are busy with the Nintendo Switch.

I haven't tried it (way to annoying to set up), but I read from other testers that it works but the HOME menu is currently broken. Should be easy to fix. Every RPX that runs as channel should also work.

Funny because I think developers couldn't care less about the Switch. There are no big projects atm besides Scires Atmosphère reimplementation. At least we don't have the constant shitflinging between CFW and SX users :P

sounds like something that happened to me with the dark mode theme. I have it installed on my system via cbhc. anyway, tropical freeze, the A button to start the game doesn't work unless you press the home menu, resume. then, it suddenly works.
