tbh I can't really make a conclusion. every consoles had its own pros and cons.

NES and SNES was both legendary and they dominated the market but is kinda old and basic to be compared with future units. Can't deny that it's one of the greatest ones though.

N64 had lots of stunning games and its revolutionary analog control, with games like SM64 and Zelda OOT which literally defined the 3D game controls on console. but it still used cartridges which caused lots of third-parties to move to Sony, and (kinda) low quality for remaining games. This is also the point where nintendo started to go downhill.

GameCube was another magnificent console, With the title: first ever nintendo console that utilized optical media. GC controller is still one of the comfiest one I've ever used, Games were stunning as always, but large amounts of third parties didn't really come back. did they sell well? not really... but It was heavily underrated atm.

Wii is yet another revolution done by Nintendo, followed by DS. It was so revolutionary that even its codename was Revolution(a.k.a RVL)! With its exclusive motion controller, It offered fundamentally different gaming experience from traditional consoles. While it was the best one for light gamers, kids and for family console, It wasn't really targeting for core gamers- since Wiimote wasn't able to give gamere the traditional controlling mechanics, as well as its weak hardware which was basically just overclocked GC. It was very much outdated compared to same gen consoles.

Wii U shows what happens when you take your creativity too far- It was too revolutionary that it flopped so hard. big ass gamepad was useful and served its own purpose, providing another unique experience- but at the same time it sucked. heavy, hard to grab due to big ass screen. hardware was still too weak, and third parties still didn't care.

Now Switch is something new. Yet another creative console- which can "Switch" between handheld and TV console. hardware was remarkably powerful compared to previous ones designed by nintendo. Controller was still kinda weird and utilized motion controls, but this time it was bit more closer to traditional controliing scheme, as well as pro controller which is now compatible with almost every games. but, It also introduced hardware durability issue which have never been in nintendo consoles.

If you ask me, I can't decide the best console here.
Handhelds? They're still "Nintendo systems", right? What are your thoughts on them?

Literally answering the poll, I'd say no, NGC is not the best Nintendo console of all time. It has though, the best game controller of all time, Period.

On other perspective, the poll is very incomplete and is very generally focused, because a gaming console is better than others in therms of its games, and the Wii has/had better games than NGC, and a more intuitive gaming experience.

There's no way a console can be better than other only by the quantity of games released into it, but by their quality instead, and most Wii games were far better than the NGC ones, because the gaming experience exceeded the one on NGC.

Because the Wii has dysfunctional motion controls as its primary (and, for the vast majority of its library, only) control method, which just ruins the console completely. It had a Classic Controller, and supported the GameCube controller, but neither were used much, to the console's extreme detriment.

GameCube is inherently superior to the Wii. Hell, the Wii and the Virtual Boy are practically equals due to how nauseating both were.
3DS > Switch > DS > Wii U > GameCube > GBA > GBC > Wii, in my personal experience.

I didn't say the Wii controls were better. Why not have a Gamecube that also plays Wii games? Is there not one single Wii game you like? Mario Galaxy is amazing in my opinion. My favorite Mario game. I'd rather have a console that can play every Gamecube game plus the one Wii game I'd want to play than a console that plays only Gamecube games.

I just want to question why you two mentioned "of its generation" or "of the same generation", when this topic isn't really about generations, but instead Nintendo consoles altogether - quote, "greatest Nintendo system of all time".
That just struck me as odd, really; not exactly on-topic much...
It's an observation. It's not even the best console of its generation, which I could make an argument is not a high prerequesite to hold for something being considered the "greatest Nintendo system of all time". It's not off-topic for me to explain part of my reasoning as to why I don't believe it to be so, whether you agree or not.

Edit: Sorry if this comes across as rude, but this whole thing is about an opinion anyway. It hardly matters.

If the vast majority of the new games are highly uncomfortable to play, then what's the point in having GameCube + new games? I'd much rather have just GameCube games, honestly, in that scenario.

Objectively, the question should be which Nintendo console is the best ONLY considering the games offered specifically for this system. So don't consider Gamecube games for the Wii or Wii U. With that in mind, the Gamecube is solid, but I would still go for SNES.

I 100% agree that only the games officially available for the system when it was the active, selling console should be considered. And that's why I end up choosing Gamecube over SNES even though it's a tough decision. The Gamecube had its own native games plus the Gameboy Player, which made the entire GBA catalog available too. The Gamecube was really all you needed in a 3D console, except for being SD, and the GBA was maybe not quite as good as the SNES, but it was close. So you've got Nintendo's best 3D console (IMHO) and their 2nd best 2D console, in one box. Gamecube Forever!

Mega Drive is best

Why?

Is black, the color of badassery
High Definition Graphics
Blast Processing
FM synth. The console itself is a musical instrument, not just a sampler.
Badass name ~!!!~ MEGA !!~~!! DRIVE ~!!!~
Genesis name taken from Star Trek
Headphone port with volume slider
Backwards compatible
Highly upgradeable
Sega Channel
Comfortable control shaped like a boomerang for when you throw it
Mega Drive + 32X + CD looks like Borg technology
Lock-on technology
Tower of Power on Mega Drive reaches greater heights than any other system
Yellow tabs on cartridges
Instant load times
Does what Nintendon't!
Yes that's my favourite Nintendo console

While I don't think Nintendo has ever made a bad system, I will say the GameCube is the one I've spent the least time with (even behind the WiiU) and it was never something I was too enthusiastic about while it was on shelves.

It might be recency bias, but I'd probably have a hard time picking between the Wii or the Switch for the best Nintendo system, although the NES will always be my sentimental favorite because I'm old and it was my first console.

Inherently incorrect - Nintendo made the Wii. Dysfunctional motion controls, with no mandatory Classic alternative for when it inevitably fucks up.
The only three games that aren't completely poisoned are Twilight Princess (can turn pointer off, and otherwise doesn't use "motion" at all - it's essentially treated as a less-reliable button press), Super Paper Mario (mostly controlled by sideways-Wiimote, and rarely requires the pointer), and Super Smash Bros. Brawl (flat-out doesn't use motion at all).

I have never had the energy to dislike anything the way you dislike the Wii.

I would ask "who hurt you", but clearly the answer is "everyone involved with the design and production of the Wii at every step of the way".

Not "who", but "what" - Super Mario Galaxy and Skyward Sword being the prime two examples, from memory.

I came into this Console System long after its Golden Years, so I do not have the perspective of playing its Library back at its peak.
What I have read, however, tells me it was very capable for its time and there are Titles that became Classics.

With that said, from the standpoint of my 2021 enjoyment, I can't truly say it is the best Nintendo offering of all time.
As the years went on and Nintendo stepped out of chasing the fastest Hardware, I actually started enjoying them more.

As such, the Nintendo Wii is currently their best offering for me; the hours of playing with Family whilst moving about and mimicking Sports actions are some of the fondest Gaming Memories I have.

Nintendo is the only Gaming Console Company that is synonymous with Family Fun for me and that's how I'll continue to remember them.

Where the GameCube resides in my Gaming logic is in Single-Player, Sit-Down experiences, and because of that, it isn't how I want Nintendo to be; SONY and PC Gaming have that covered, in my books.

As someone who foolishly tried playing the Switch port of Galaxy in handheld mode late last year, I suppose I'm with you there to a point, but it's not all bad! Galaxy was still a ton of fun...with the right controls, and stuff like No More Heroes worked really well by not having you rely on it for the actions you perform most frequently.

I can totally understand having a hard time with it, I guess I just love the Wii library so much I've made myself get used to it lol
