it will but you risk it corrupting, your best bet is to backup your emummc using hekate, copy fies to pc, use guiformat to format the sd card as fat32, then copy files back, resetup the emummc, then restore the backup.

install games over usb
Thanks again. I guess I'll just have to pull up a chair and go through the process again.

I also have a question regarding the cartridge slot. I read some users have issues with their cartridge slot after updating their console. This is a 3.0.0 Switch which is running Hekate to load emuMMC. After emuNAND on 3DS, as well as some comments on here, I felt pretty sure that "what happens in emuXXX stays in emuXXX". Am I mistaken here? My emuMMC is updated to something like 11.x.x.x. Now I don't use the cartridge reader, but have I updated my cartridge slot by updating my emuMMC? Would my slot be non-functional while on 3.0.0 sysnand now?

When in hekate menu, try going to "Payloads" tab then selecting the "Fusee-Primary"

Thanks, that was able to get me into the switch again but now I've hit even more snags... For some reason my game card slot won't read games anymore. I can still access the hb menu through the album and launch aio installer from there to install sig patches and use installed nsps to launch the hb menu but now goldleaf goes to a black screen and forced a shut down and for some reason retroarch won't use my most recent saves or saved settings (though I don't see how that could be related)

Sorry for asking so many questions, I appreciate all the help

Ok so I turned off auto-ngc which also fixed retroarch for some reason? I also thought to update hekate/nyx so that works now. The only issue is Gold Leaf still doesn't work for some reason? My installed games still work so I don't think there was an error installing the sig patches with aio-updater but whenever I launch gold leaf I get a black screen and if I press home to go back and try to launch something else my switch gets frozen as a black screen and I have to hold the power button to turn it off. I'm using version 0.8 which I think is the latest version.

When copying over contents from the Nintendo folder from sysMMC to emuMMC, how can I just copy over Youtube? My Nintendo folder is 50gb and I don't want to copy _everything_ so it's hogging 100gb.

Is there reason why i can't install NSZs files on Atmosphere/Kosmos but NSPs works fine? I'm using Aoww Installer and NS-USBloader

Hi all,
I bought a second-hand Nintendo Switch.
The bad news is that it was Banned. The good news was that it was "Unpatched"
Have decided to look into running CFW and Homebrew applications on it.

I wanted to get learn about the process with some help from the community and to detail each step in the hope that it will help any other newbs in the same position.

I have:
An unpatched Nintendo Switch (Banned) running 11.0.1 Firmware
A 512GB MicroSDXC (Samsung Evo / Class 10)
A RCMLoader Dongle and Jig from xkit.xyz
A Windows 10 laptop

--Getting started--
Just to start from a fresh canvas I:
Formatted the MicroSDXC on my laptop - ExFAT
Factory Reset the Switch (System - Formatting Options - Restore Factory Settings)
NOTE: I've read in a few places that people with Banned Switches have struggled to perform a Factory Reset - luckily mine works fine)

Once Reset, the Switch took me through the 1st time setup
I skipped past connecting to Wifi for now
It then gave me a message about needing to delete data on the MicroSDXC (strange as it was just formatted) but has probably formatted the card again and is happy to use it now.
I turned the Switch off, removed the MicroSDXC from the Switch and inserted it into my laptop.

--SD Prep--
Looking at the MicroSDXC Card on my laptop, it has just 1 folder "Nintendo"
I downloaded the latest version of Atmosphere atmosphere-0.18.0-master-26d8db74+hbl-2.4.0+hbmenu-3.4.0.zip
I extracted the zip and copied all of the contents into the root of the MicroSDXC card.

I downloaded the latest version of Hekate hekate_ctcaer_5.5.3_Nyx_0.9.9.zip
I extracted the zip and copied all of the contents into the root of the MicroSDXC card.
I downloaded a hekate_ipl.ini file and copied it to the Bootloader folder on the MicroSDXC
Ejected the SD from the laptop
Inserted it into the Switch

--1st Boot into RCM Mode--
On the Switch I:
Removed the right Joycon and inserted Jig
Connected my RCMLoader dongle
Pressed Vol+ for 3 seconds before also pressing the Power button
The Hetake boot logo appears
I remove the Jig and RCMLoader dongle and attach the right Joycon
I set the date and time
A message appears saying that the configuration was saved to my SD Card

I click Launch
I have 3 options: AMS CFW (SYSNAND), AMS CFW (EMUMMC) and STOCK (SYSNAND)
I click on AMS CFW (EMUMMC) (This is a guess)
The Switch boots the Atmosphere firmware

Once booted, I can visit Album and see Daybreak and Reboot to Payload
Cool.
Powered off the Switch
Removed MicroSDXC from Switch and inserted it into the laptop

--Getting some Homebrew Apps--
I downloaded the latest version of the Homebrew App Store and downloaded a appstore.nro file
On my MicroSDXC I created a new folder called appstore in the Switch folder and copied the file there
Ejected MicroSDXC from laptop and inserted it into the Switch
Connected RCMLoader and Jig and booted up Switch in RCM Mode
Launch AMS CFW (EMUMMC)
Album - HB Appstore

Installed the pNES app (to allow you to play NES Roms) -
After downloading - I can see pNES in Album
I click Launch - it crashes Atmosphere Error Code 2168-0002 (0x4a8)
I have to reboot the Switch into RCM Mode
In HB Appstore it shows as installed - have removed

Installed the eBooks Collection app
Installs but does not show on Album screen
In HB Appstore it shows as installed - have removed

Installed the FTPD app (to provide SD Card access over FTP) - works great
Installed the NXDumpTool app (to dump game cartridges to SD) - works great
Installed NX-Shell app (Filemanager) - works great
Installed the Goldleaf app (to allow you to play dumped game carts from SD) -
After downloading - I can see Goldleaf in Album

I click Launch - the screen goes black for 2 seconds and then returns me to the Album screen
Can anyone help me understand if I am missing something / have done something wrong?

All help appreciated and will try and pay it back

Like the other said above i would recommend using something else than Goldleaf. Goldleaf is not working on 11.0.1

@BigOnYa I don't know what timezone you live in but here, I'm usually asleep by midnight at EST :P
But that's the thing, I have yet to be unsuccessful at pushing any payloads. They all string as successful. Just the screen is still black. I saw somewhere else that others were having this issue but it was a matter if using a different Launcher. I'm not sure.
Pushing and accepting a payload are 2 different things. Its easy to successfully push a payload because that only relies on your computer/phone/device. However accepting a payload only works if your console is not patched. So based on the black screen despite successful payload injections and the fact that your console is possibly patched, your Switch is most likely patched. If you want the definitive proof, see how many bytes were smashed in TegraRCM. If you see 0x7000, its not patched but if you see 0x0000, it is patched.

Unfortunately you cannot without manually uninstalling everything else.

I've never tried to install .NSZ files so I'm not sure where the issue may stem from but there was an unofficial evolution of Awoo Installer released called TinWoo installer that may be worth giving a try.

I'm blocking Nintendo Servers using 90dns/Pihole. When connecting to the wifi it connects to the Network Device but shows error "Unable to connect to the network" (which is good, right?) but it asks if i want to re-enter password and then disconnects from the access point. Is there away to keep it connected without internet?

Currently I have Atmosphere 0.16.2 installed and want to update to the new 0.18.0.
Will it be okay if I update it by using ftpd snap or should I just do it normally.
Asking because doing it normally would be a hassle as my new laptop doesn't have an sd card reader and I'd have to go through it with my older laptop.

Internet comes from your router. In order to keep it connected without Internet, you would have to disable that from your computer or router not the Switch so that is something we cannot easily help you with since that will depend on your setup.

Actually you have to update it normally because there was an update to Atmosphere that prevents its files from being updated while the CFW is running to avoid potential updating issues.

But should I be able to connect to the internet when setting up an access point using 90DNS/Pihole?

Edit: I'm getting "Could not perform DNS name Resolution" now even though pihole is working fine with other clients

Yes. Even if 90DNS is down or not working, worst case scenario is you wouldn't be able to connect to anything. Is there any reason you want to block Nintendo traffic? Are you using any non-Nintendo based Internet services? If not, blocking them achieves the same effect as simply not using Wi-Fi settings in the first place.

I would like to try using a homebrew for PC-streaming, is that possible without connecting to nintendo/getting banned?

Yes by using something like 90DNS or PiHole. I should also mention I don't use either of these because there are no non-Nintendo based online services that interest me.

I think I'll load Ubuntu and use Moonlight or something like that, less risky than using dns blockers on Horizon

Ugh that's annoying, so I guess I copy my entire Nintendo folder over to the emuMMC location, boot Atmosphere and then delete everything I don't need on emuMMC?

Well I guess you can do that. I was about to suggest making a backup of your Nintendo folder, deleting everything except YouTube, then move the Nintendo folder over but that also involves making a copy of the Nintendo folder. Honestly, the easiest method is just installing the YouTube .NSP file by itself again if you have a copy of it.

I'm trying to get Goldleaf working. I'm reading the instructions here: https://github.com/XorTroll/Goldleaf/blob/master/Quark.md

Under the Quark Windows setup instructions it says this:

"The best way to install Java 9 in Windows (or a very simple one) is to install AdoptOpenJDK 11 or higher."

Then it says this: "After installing it, double-clicking the JAR should be enough to start it."

I installed that file in the link but I don't see the JAR file anywhere. I did a search for it and can't find it. Where is the JAR file supposed to be?

I've formatted my SD Card to install L4T Ubuntu, bur totally forgot to backup the EmuMMC Partition. I still have and EmuMMC folder on the root of the SDcard next to Atmosphere folder. I've recreated the EmuMMC with hekate and it's working ok. But is there a way to recover what is in EmuMMC folder on the SD card?
