Xbox uses some weird authentication (at least on the 360) that 3rd parties need to license and get the devices approved from MS. So most such devices aren't compatible with Xbox. You have to find one that specifically says it's compatible (and not just emulating a Xbox controller on PC but compatible with console too, since on PC the authentication chip isn't required)

Oh. You don't need an adapter to do that. Steam already has PS4 controller support and Xinput emulation that you can configure from Big Picture Mode. Add your non-Steam games to Steam and they should work with it too.
ok one more thing can i use my switch pro controlller too?

Yup. Just enable Switch Pro configuration support and PS4 configuration support in the settings in Big Picture.
Another benefit is that rumble also works on Switch Pro Controller via Steam. No other method of Xinput emulation I've found has working rumble on the Switch Pro Controller. And the Switch Pro Controller specific drivers/software don't support rumble either.

I use those, and it works well.

Select + Arrowkeys switches the input mode.

So this really is RTFM. :)

Create = Select in terms of how a PS3 controller would have named that button. ;)

Xinput mode is "identify as an Xbox (360) controller".

Some games are finicky with 'when they want to detect the controller', so what usually helps - in game - is to press and hold select+dpad-down for 3 seconds (controller now get recognized as a Playstation Classic Controller, which almost no game picks up), and then press select+dpad-up for 3 seconds, which most games recognize as Xbox 360 controller unplugged (PSC mode) and plugged back in.

In some games (When water tastes like wine) Switching to Mac mode also helps (even when on Windows) in case their Xinput recognition is baaaaaaad. ;)

99.9% of games work with Xinput (once you did the "virtual unplug replug" trick with PSC mode first - in case they prefer the controller to be plugged in when running) mode - with whatever controller is connected to the 8bitdo USB adapter.

(I use an Xbox One Controller most of the time, but PS4 works just as well.)

Also we are talking about those adapters, btw

And make sure to update their firmwares first:

As some of those modes where patched in later in their lifetime.

Have fun,

n.
