After months of speculation and rumors, Mass Effect fans have been treated to an N7 Day treat. Via the official BioWare blog, the company has confirmed that Mass Effect Legendary Edition will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC in Spring of 2021. The collection will include the single player campaigns, DLC, and weapons and armor packs from the original trilogy. BioWare confirms that the anthology of games will all be optimized for 4K Ultra HD, and will have enhancements for the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. The team also released a short trailer for the game on their official Twitter page.

In a surprise additional announcement, BioWare also confirmed in the same blog that the next game in the Mass Effect series is also in development, under a "veteran team," though no other details are being made available at this time.

Yes, it is a collection of the original trilogy. Though the BioWare blog post explicitly calls out "single player base content," which tells me that Mass Effect 3's multiplayer likely won't be available in the Legendary Edition. Which is a bit of a shame if true, I had a lot of fun with that.
At least now War Asset values won't be cut in half because of the abandoned multiplayer scene...god, that was DUMB, tying singleplayer values to the livelihood of multiplayer.

That "veteran team" feels rightfully in quotes, like, didn't most of the their experienced employees leave Bioware before, during and after after that last couple of disasters they put out?

And aren't they supposed to be working on Dragon Age 4?, hasn't EA learnt anything?

Finally, jeez. I’ve been waiting to play the series because this has been rumored for years.

They've been on PC for years.

Granted, it's on Origin, but it's not like there's...ahem...other "methods" of playing these games, especially on PC!

i respect your opinion, but why? if someday this happening, is going to be a severe downgrade of the original anyways. or a direct port from OG trilogy.
We've yet to see anything other than the teaser though: now if we're approaching the kind of detail found in the characters on said teaser, then yes I fully agree - fukk the Switch port, but if the 'redone from scratch' hyperbole amounts to about as much as the Burnout Paradise Remaster, then a Switch port should be a thing in my opinion...

Anyway! Fantastic news for me - LOVE the games! (Well, about 2.9 of them at least) They could've just concentrated on doing ME2 for me though, what a masterpiece that game is! But 'new game also in development'?? Oo-er, still not got rid of that nasty fukkin taste in my mouth known as Andromeda yet!

I personally like ME3 more due to the gun customisation, the inclusion of ME1 cooldown guns, and Armax Arsenal Arena (and the Citadel DLC in general).
Also didn't force me to progress the story when I didn't want to, which is what ME2 does; ugh. I wanna empty my side quest list; I don't wanna be forced to face the final boss until AFTER that's done! Goddamn Illusive Man and Collectors...

And yeah, the ending might not be amazing, but when the rest of the game - and the trilogy - is outstanding, that doesn't really ruin ME3 for me. Nah; the rest of the story and gameplay's quality makes up for it many times over.

EA could be going for that double dip approach where they launch later on Switch /: , nice to see it's getting re-released at least!

Day one purchase for me, I can’t wait to not be able to play it because of my crazy schedule and my kids, but I’ll still buy it. Maybe I’ll bring my PS4 on my flights to play it in the hotel.

that's fantastic news! so the rumors were true ;)

the fact that a new game is being made is also great news, glad they haven't given up on the franchise after the MEA controversy (largely undeserved controversy in my opinion because I loved that game, but I guess that what a controversy is)

you know what is funny? i fell the same way about me3. i know about the first and single ending, and i understand why people are so pissed of back then. but the game is good, and the Omega and citadel dlcs are amazing, in my opinion (Leviathan not so much... but still enjoyable) and for me, all dlcs feel like part of the game, and not something "foced". (well ok, maybe the clone thing XD). if there is a thing that i hate about me3, is the f*ck*ng Diana Allers, that IGN bribe that put Emily Wong (or even better: chance to select her or
Khalisah Al-Jilani)
to the side, instead of a crew member, after all she did in me1 and 2....

I didn't realize getting decked for snide insinuations and disingenuous assertions was worthy of becoming a crew member.

Jokes aside, I gotta agree. I don't hate Diana Allers, but bringing Wong aboard the Normandy would've been a much better decision and shown some positive character growth for her. Plus it really just makes sense to use the existing journalist character for that role.

Aren't there mods that already make the games 4k? This just feels like a Skyrim Special Edition type remaster, where all the modders have been remastering the games for years, and then the developer comes up with slightly upgraded textures and nothing else. I wouldn't be surprised if the remasters were even buggier than the originals. Plus, I hear people complaining about the first two games not having gay options, which they have supposedly admitted to not doing a thing about it. It's something that modders have made available for years. I think people will probably have a better experience playing modded versions of the original games. We'll just have to wait and see if EA, the company that releases the same three games every year, will make significant improvements or if this is just a way for next gen consoles to play an 10 year old game.

I wonder if they'll bother fixing some of ME1's biggest issues, particularly the inventory screen...being able to see more than five items at once, being able to sort them by "rank" or alphabetically, being able to sell or convert multiple items at once, getting rid of an item depositing the cursor at the top of the list instead of where it was forcing the player to scroll back down...

ME1 did have a rather unfortunate inventory screen - usable, but not exactly well-designed. Other RPGs did a lot better, like the Persona series and Pokemon (from Gen II onwards, especially HGSS+).

I played and completed only ME1, and by cheating on the inventory size which is too small by default (thanks to hacked PS3).
Too bad I'll have to replay ME1 and redo some story choices, and re-explore planets for hours.
I always tried to keep away from anything ME3 ending related to prevent being spoiled for years! I hope I'll manage to stay away from any spoil trailer/video before playing it.

I wish we would have the choice to play both version of ME3 (before and after end DLC patch) to see why users complained that much and what they changed.

But I hope they'll keep the dubbed audio (I found French dub being good in that game).

Nice to see they are also thinking about a PS5 upgrade.

Not necessarily.... all single player DLC in the trilogy is included, which presumably must include Genesis for ME2: the major decisions of ME1 are in that, so if you don't fancy the retread, you're good to start on ME2 ;)

Possible spoiler alert!!.. all we really got from the dlc was an extra choice, and I'd say still not a very good one at that... it was better, but still not great. The major issue I have, which I won't go into while you've not played it, still remains after the DLC: what the extra DLC did to improve, as well as said extra (not perfect) choice, was pad out a good sending off of the main characters/this particular Mass Effect timeline (the Citadel DLC especially, as has been said!) So you're not missing out on that much of the uproar if (as seems likely) they only include the game - post dlc. Still a bad ending , just a less bad one!
