Hi, i have asked much of this wonderful forum, and i always follow the advice given here, first was the PS4 pro, which i got, worth it, then the switch, 3ds aswel, vita, now for the wii u, is it worth it to get a wii u ? i know it can play DS games at full speed and many other titles, i don't have any specific games i'd love to play, but i just am wondering, for an emulation console (switch is unhackable, same for ps4 pro), is it worth it ? how about hacking it, is it hard ? do i need softmod or hard ? is there a required FW ? is freeshop working on it ?

Yes,a Wii U is definitely worth to own and mod.:D

- for Games - not many,but these are really great - > https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wii_U_games
- for Emulation - near all common Retro Systems can be emulated and runs very good - maybe RetroArch is your Friend.
- Freeshop - Yes and No - A Tool named Wii U USB Helper is also your Friend.
- Modding - there are several Methods, please have a Look for Information here -> https://wiiu.hacks.guide/#/

Good Luck and
Thank you.:)

Modding a Wii U is the easiest probably of any console. IMO it is definitely worth it I have 300 games on my WIi U menu which is the most the system allows and they are from 5 different consoles the Wii U, WIi, Gamecube, DS and N64. The bad news is you won't get 100% compatibility on either N64 or DS but of course WIi U you do, as well as Wii and Gamecube.

Without a doubt it's worth it and easy to mod. I just hacked mine and I can't believe how amazing it is. It was considered a failure but it has become such a great machine for emulation.

Just going to post the same thing I did in another post to save time. :ninja:

It has compatibility for wii and gamecube games. The virtual console games can run some custom injected roms with some decent results for compatibility like N64 and DS. For emulators? Well retroarch is a thing, if you know anything about it, not all "Cores" or consoles emulated on it will not be available for the wii u. ( I think it's system specific with pc and android having all access vs game consoles having limited access) You probably want to use this instead of virtual console injects, but only for systems that isn't supported by retroarch.

For wii u, SNES9X works well and has support for MSU-1 since it is version 1.60 Genesis plus gx is all you need for all things sega. (No 32X, not like that's a big loss compared to having Master system, Game gear, and sega cd.) Nestopia is good for nes games. There is quite a few to dig into that should run well unless is some kind of overpowered arcade game. Just make sure you have a decent size SD card for it. :ninja:

Other than those things, the rest of what you can do is probably play modded wii u games. (if any) I mean if you just want a system with old games to play on the gamepad, it helps. Especially if you don't want to use other devices while is charging or something. Or you can do like me and just have it play sound test from your favorite game so you have something to listen to when you're in the room. :P

I have a hacked Wii U with my entire Wii U collection, entire Wii collection, entire Gamecube collection, half of my N64 collection and half of my DS collection all on the same menu. The system only allows 291 games to be installed and I have it full. So I would say yes it's worth it, but not everybody likes as many games as me.

They can be had for a decent price. I have heard the emulation is pretty good even though you're restricted on the 300 game limit. I guess it depends on if you want to do other things besides emulation. Most of the first party games seem to be on our headed to the switch.
