No. They did not thy to scare you. I uninstalled Unlaunch, then I got a error. After I restart my dsi, it never got to the stock os. Instead, I got a black screen. No kidding!
You're 5 months late. Also, did you have any custom DSiWare?

JUST DON'T DO IT.

Mine got bricked last month...
It works fine for everyone else.

.......Install/Uninstall.......I really do not get it...why then Modding a Device ?
Only to "sell" a clean Device ? Because the User is bored ? Why then Modding first ?
Please,People THINK a little before doing something like Modding....:)

Put the unlaunch.dsi in the Root of the SD Card please,go into Unlaunch and start it -> choose UNINSTALL and good.
If you do something like install custom DSiWare to the NAND,bad luck. Please consider it next Time on the next DSi.

If not, please never mod a Device again please.

Thank you.:)

Did you uninstall it?

Yes I did through unlaunch.dsi, it never booted back again, although I had a proper NAND back up.

It's really up to each user to decide what they want to do with their device. They might want to try it and then realize they don't use homebrew so much, they might prefer the simplicity of the official firmware, they might realize the local multiplayer function is compromised or even it's enough to use the memoryPit exploit and so on...or as you said they might as well want to sell it.

And that is the reason why some programmer wrote an uninstall function in the first place !

I think it would be a good idea for the dsi.guide to warn users (before unlaunch installation) that there's an unavoidable brick risk in uninstalling unlaunch. Not my call though.

(Ah yes,I forget, using incomplete and outdated Youtube Tutorials and Manuals are much better then well written Guides today...:D.)

One Step says clearly:

What should I know before starting?
  • Installing Unlaunch modifies your NAND, and in extreme edge cases has the potential to brick the system
    • While Unlaunch isn’t a mandatory install, we will be going through the process of installing it. If you don’t want to, stop after taking a NAND backup
  • Make sure your console is charged when following this process. A sudden power loss could result in serious damage
  • On Windows, it’s recommended to show file extensions if you are using the default File Explorer

I am sorry,I have no longer understanding and "compassion" with
todays "only trying "Modding" because I am bored" Mentality.....:)

Thank you.:)

Correct. And any modification carries the risk of unrecoverable brick. On the DSi there is zero protection against this. The user has to be aware of this and accept this.

No access to my main computer at the moment so I can't find the links easily. There were the following cases with the result of a spontaneous brick:
  • Uninstalled unlaunch without having non-legit DSiWare on SysNAND
  • Simply installed unlaunch
  • Seemingly normal unlaunch update
I lack the expertise to evaluate those but I came to a conclusion myself: Don't touch unlaunch without a good reason. Install and good. The changes from v1.8 to v1.9 an v2.0 are not that important that I would risk modifying a working installation (exception: my almost busted test DSi where I – big surprise – accept the risk of loosing it forever and even changed SysNAND beyond installing unlaunch)

Bricks of this kind seem to be pretty rare (or there would be many more threads about this). Still not worth the risk.

I fully agree with @alexander1970
Read BEFORE installing CFW on your consoles. Don't guess, don't try before understanding everything, don't do it if you don't accept the risks.

The developers do their best to make CFW suitable for the end user and as safe as possible. But nobody can guarantee that software modification of a device never intended to grant the user full rights will behave as expected. Opposed to a PC where the user has full rights (mostly up to today) by default and reinstalling the operating system is possible, intended and easy, a gaming console breaks if the OS is damaged.

[…]or as you said they might as well want to sell it.
This is in my opinion the WORST reason for uninstalling custom firmware of any kind. To put it mildly: Selling a previously modified device without mentioning the modification is not a nice move.

I fully agree on this and emitted no complain at any moment of the conversation.

As I read plenty enough of material before uninstalling your reply is irrelevant and it is clear you are mentally bored, as you are not able to properly understand a post. I suggest you have a rest

For those who have compassion, know how to read and plan on uninstalling Unlaunch via the "uninstall" option, know that you might expose yourself to a bricking, even if you followed the rules .

and you, must have really strong reasons why you want to install or uninstall the CFW (so you wont regret it later)

the bad example is myself, TBH, i INSTALL this Unlaunch because "i am curious", yes, its simple just "curious". And the reason why i UNINSTALL is really trivial too, i feel unieasy watching that ship-head on the top screen (i dont read that 'problemkaputt' already realize it, by wrote that people may be get scared or something like that on "Artwork" section in original Unlaunch website) :'(

Hi I need some help. Mine doesn't show the Uninstall option anymore. For some reason, I can't upload the image of how it looks like.

Launch into the unlaunch.dsi file. It should have the uninstall option there
