Hey everyone. I recently purchased a 3DS XL to replace my New 2DS XL and was hoping to easily transfer over to the new system as the 2DS has some hardware faults. The faults are the volume slider, speaker and headphone jack. But whenever I try and system transfer from the 2DS to the 3DS, It doesn't allow me to transfer due to the 2DS being newer than the 3DS. Does anyone know of any workarounds for this? Both systems have been modded.

There are unofficial ways of doing it, but they are very complicated. It would probably be easiest if you just backed up all your save data from your New 2DS XL, re-installed all your software on your old 3DS XL, and then restored your save data. If you have an NNID on your 2DS that you want to keep using, then I think you should be able to call Nintendo to get it switched from one unit to the other.

Or you could just find a New 3DS XL. They apparently have a much better build quality than the New 2DS XL.

I think I'll try out the unofficial way of transferring. And could you possibly expand on what you mean by it being "very complicated"?

For DSiWare titles, see CTRTransfer (Type D9) - DSiWare CIAs & Saves. You might want to update the script to the current v1.8b since last time.
I'm stuck on Part 2 step 5. I'm not sure which file it's referring to. Is there a download that I missed? If you need the file name, it's called: convert_0x30_KeyY_to_ID0.xlsx

@TurdPooCharger , You are the god of anything 3DS related. Every application along with it's respective save file transferred over with no problems whatsoever. If there's anything I can do to repay you, let me know. Thank you once again.

if truly appreciated, leave a like for each developer's main thread of those tools, apps, programs that were used as SDTransfer method wouldn't be possible without them. If there are gods in the 3DS homebrew community, it would be them, not me.
Edit:
I left out faketik because it doesn't have an official release page. Although his tool is not used in those tutorials, the real master mind behind the magic in getting CMACs to work in the first place.

Done and done! And one last thing before I'm done with this thread... Would it be possible to transfer mii maker data & friend list to the new 3ds? Or would it be impossible? Thanks again.

It's probably similiar to this.
You can backup the system titles' saves + extdata with Checkpoint and/or JKSM. For system tittles to appear on Checkpoint, edit the sdmc:/3ds/Checkpoint/config.json like in that example. Backup the saves + extdata on the n2DSXL, copy the save manager's folder from one to the other's SD card, and then restore the collection of Miis.

There's also dumping all the individual Friend Codes with seedstarter (lazy way of recording without having to write down with pen(cil) and paper), and manually inviting them back with Register Friend.

Lastly, there is a way to perform an unauthorized / homebrew System Transfer going from [ New series → Old series ]. I rather not walk you through this route due to concerns your n2DSXL and o3DSXL could end up getting banned by Nintendo the moment the o3DSXL signs on and presents itself with the n2DSXL's Friend List. The Miis you should be able to get away backing up and restoring, but the Friend List I'm not entirely sure this gets check against Nintendo's server side records.

It worked! Thank you once again.
