Haven't pulled out my Wii for about a decade. What's the current state of the official support and hacking scene? Is it still possible to:

1. Update the Wii?
2. Factory reset the Wii?
3. Hack the Wii?
4. Virginize an old hacked Wii?

Hello.:)

1.Yes
2.Yes
3.Yes
4.Yes

If you have further Questions about the Wi and its Possibilities, please feel free to ask for Details.:)

Thank you.:)

I am using Wii wode to play all GameCube games via USB these days.

I am trying to finish Pokémon XD on dolphin emu and then transfer the save file to real GameCube memory card ? Why because it is easy to add cheats.

Thanks Alex. My only other question would be, what's the easiest way to softmod the Wii these days?

LetterBomb is still just as reliable as ever. There are new exploits that make use of security flaws in the web browser (i.e. when viewing the license agreement), but I don't think there's any advantage to them.
Thanks Alex. My only other question would be, what's the easiest way to softmod the Wii these days?

Thank you.:)

One of the "newer" Exploits/Hacking Methods is "str2hax":
https://gbatemp.net/threads/a-channel-less-sd-less-entry-point-str2hax.523210/

No SD Card is needed only an active Internet Connection on your Wii.
It takes usually a few Tries but it still works with the Advantage of no additional "hacking Stuff" needed.:)

Another newer Method is FlashHax:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/new-free-homebrew-entry-point-flashhax.491674/
It also needs an active Internet connection and Internet Channel on your Wii.
It also takes sometimes a few Tries until it works.

and Bluebomb:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/bluebomb-an-exploit-for-the-wii-wii-mini.549123/
This needs a Linux System and/or an Bluetoothadapter/ Device like an Raspberry Pi to work but is the fastest and easiest Method actual.

So you have still enough Possibilities (still included the Game Based Exploits depending on your Wii System Menu Version).

You can also use @XFlak´s ModMii for an full automatic generated Setup/Update Package:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/modmii-for-windows-official-support-topic.207126/

Good Luck and have Fun on hacking your Wii.
Thank you.:)

By the way, how do you "Virginize an old hacked Wi" ? It's not something that comes up very often.

I thought that was no longer an option since the Wii Shop is gone and the Internet Channel is no longer available?
Thank you,yes of course the Internet Channel is needed for this Exploit.:)
(Edited my Post,thank you).

10 years ago there used to be a guide on how to do it. Dunno if it's still present and correct. If you understood IOS layouts, the process was basically just replacing modified IOSes with factory ones, using tools that allowed you to do that.

Fun fact, I needed to virginize my Wii at one point because its graphics card failed (showed random artifacts on screen). Nintendo agreed to replace it, even though it was out of warranty, but obviously sending in a hacked Wii would void warranty. The virginizing process was a success, though, and I got my Wii fixed without hassle.
