Morning pimps. Do I need to change anything to make the core work? I'm trying Crazy Taxi and I'm getting like 1-3 FPS even on start screen, am I missing something?

Yes, I'm using launching it holding "R". My clock is on normal, so it's also not underclocked.

EDIT: solved the problem, I had "run ahead" turned on to reduce lag on snes, turns out it obviously was affecting every other core lol.

After testing this some previous games that worked with past update now have issues. I'm going to revert back to previous update.

Marvel vs Capcom 1 now flickers.
Crazy Taxi 2 framerate drops.
Capcom vs snk 2 stutters.

Better report those reggresions to flyinghead directly as now he will be attending switch related issues now

I do think everything is a bit slower now, but that's typically the price you pay for accuracy instead of glitches. Just stick to native rez and overclock the CPU.

Sega Rally 2 still runs horrible. Oh well.

That's with full overclock in Retroarch and title override. Even minimum resolution. Guessing because Windows CE games are just the hardest Dreamcast games to emulate.

Took me long enough, but I've finally come around to getting this thing up and running on my Switch! Nice to see some rumbling vibration for use in...sound recording sessions! What did you think I was going to say, you degenerate!?

Anyways, here's some results for Dreamcast games:

Capcom Vs. SNK 2 - Runs full speed from what I've played with no OC'ing required.
Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 -

STILL NOT 60FPS!? EVEN WITH MAXIMUM OC!? THESE TICKETS I WON FOR IRAQ ARE FUCKING SHIT IF THE RIDES ARE THIS SLOW!!!

(for real tho, this isn't a WinCE game, is it? It only slows down in the damn fights, and not the menus. Does it have something to do with all of the characters that gotta be in memory or something? Because CVS2 does the whole 2D-sprite-on-3D-background thing and that runs perfectly with no OC required. It baffles me even more considering that DOA2, which isn't exactly an easy game for my ODroid XU4 to run, let alone the RPi4, is running at full speed, occasional speed drop from environmental interactions notwithstanding, so something bizarre must be up with this one)

Vampire Savior for Matching Service - Runs perfectly fine. Darkstalkers 4 when Capcom? (and with no caving to Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian types because Morrigan is "too sexy")

Soul Calibur - Runs perfectly with no graphical glitches or slowdowns to speak of!

Fighting Vipers 2 -

Not quite 60 FPS, but close to it at 55 FPS! Only tried out the training stage though.

Virtua Fighter 3tb - Runs at full speed, but there are some weird graphical issues with the train in the subway stage. Not that it really affects gameplay unless if you actually want to try OHKO-ing yourself by running into it!

Dead or Alive 2 (the version with Bayman and you can unlock the final boss that's exclusive to Japan if that makes a difference) - OK, this is running at full speed with no OC at all other than the times you interact with the environment when you kick an opponent into the wall or off the edge or whatever (where it drops maybe 4-5 frames for a second), and considering that this is up there when it comes to the 3D fighters in processing demands, makes me think that MVC2 is some weird anomaly in terms of performance on HorizonArch here.

Project Justice/Rival Schools 2 - The only game that definitely needs a bit of an OC bump for 60 fps to 1224. Otherwise, runs perfectly fine!

Power Stone: Like Project Justice, it just needs a little boost to get to 60FPS.
Power Stone 2: Again, not much needed to get this to 60FPS! The improvements to this core are making me glad I at least have two gifts to give or sell to people who'd appreciate them...

Street Fighter Alpha 3 Saikyo Dojo: So, the FPS counter goes all over the place on this one, and the stuttering makes me wonder if this version is one of those WinCE games. It's not completely unplayable, but if Yabause actually worked on Switch (haven't really followed the development of that, didn't @m4xw make a post about getting it to play better with Horizon on HorizonArch some time ago?) without having to change the payload, then I'd say to play that one or the PS1 version for consistency atm.

Now, finally, no more fighting games, as much as I love them to death.

Rez: (PAL): How is this not on the Switch yet? The gyro controls would make it a jam to play! Oh well, there's the PC versions and the Steam Controller.

Anyways, this one's locked to 30FPS and may require a slight bump in OC to play. But honestly, I'd suggest playing the modern ports if you had to ask me.

Virtua Tennis: You might want to use the high performance tier of OC for this one. Boost is OK, but it will drop frames when transitioning between the game and the transitions like replays and the Position Change sequence.

Sonic Adventure: Runs at 30FPS, maybe a boost or high performance tier needed for full speed. Graphical glitches with Sonic's eyes.

Sonic Adventure 2: Needs at least a boost to be smooth, but I'd recommend the high performance tier of OC.

Crazy Taxi: Maybe needs a boost, otherwise, it was CRAAAZZZYYY!!!

Crazy Taxi 2: Slash totally wants to be Dante! Otherwise, requires a slight Devil Trigger to get to that CRAAAZZZYYY 60FPS!

And that's all she wrote for the DC games. I'm gonna see if I can run NAOMI and Atomiswave games fine with little headache and post some results here once I get those all tested out!

So, what's the deal with NAOMI and Atomiswave games again? I remember there was a catch to get them to work on HorizonArch that other systems didn't have. I vaguely remember something about converting them to .chds to make them compatible.

Btw, tested Cannon Spike and it runs fine.

I know I'm an asshole for doing this and a lot of other things lately, but I'm bumping this shit to the top. How do you run NAOMI and Atomiswave games again? I'd really rather not have to go digging around post after post in the 30+ pages to remember how to do it correctly.

For naomi you need naomi.bin or naomi.zip in your system/dc/. For AW you need awbios.zip in the same directory. Search them up in google somewhere. I've previously tested mvsc2 naomi ver and mslug6 for aw, both worked fine for me (i mean i was able to launch them, performance was not that good, idk about now).

No, I got those, but when I go to launch one of those games, it kicks me back to the menu, saying it failed to load content.

You need to source all of the related assets (mainboard ROMs and game ROMs) from the latest MAME sets. At least 0.200 and above.
For romboard games (anything with a size above 1kb), it's as simple as loading the .ZIP and go. For GD-ROM games, you need the 1kb game main ROM, and the associated .CHD disc image (that isn't renamed) in a subdirectory relative to the .ZIP that's named the same as it.
So, to visualize as a hypothetical example:
  • /%GamesDir%
    • /foo (directory)
      • ghd-whatever.chd (size: 122,562kb)
    • bar.zip (size: 56,283kb)
    • foo.zip (size: 1kb)
If it doesn't work, then make sure your core works in the first place. If Flycast works with regular DC games, then get better ROMs. Repeat until you find something that works.

Isn't this is how one runs these games in Demul if I remember correctly? Or it's close to it?

Anyways, after discovering that they moved the BIOS folder to a subfolder in the cores folder (may I ask why? And yes, I'm doing a fresh Kosmos install because I wanted to start fresh), and doing what you suggested with some games that I happened to have the necessary files for, I've managed to get the game to boot into the correct mode. Unfortunately, it gave me an error on the NAOMI boot screen, but considering the game is an older version of Guilty Gear XX, this result is far better progress than anything else I've tried so far. Only problem is that now both of the games I've tried have given me an "Error 01 - This game is not acceptable by main board." I've had a lot of Error 02's in trying to get this to work in the past, but not so many of these. Apparently, one needs the MAME BIOS now as opposed to the ones used in stuff like Demul or RetroPie?

So, I just managed to get a .bin game to work without it crashing RA or something. Sure, it gives you the notification to upgrade to MAME romsets, but it at least booted! Still getting an Error 01, though.

I'm going to assume this one time was a lucky fluke, as it keeps crashing RA every time I go to run .bin games. I still don't know WTF is the problem though considering that it runs these files just fine on the main RA build on PC and even on SBCs.

For people struggling to get San Francisco Rush 2049 to boot, it is one of those games that requires forcing TV(RGB) and NTSC in the core options. Try this for any game that just throws itself to the menu.
