GOG updates its refund policy with full refund up to 30 days after a purchase

GOG, the digital video games store from CD Projekt RED, announced a new update to its refund policy with a 'gamers-first’ approach via a blog post: starting now, you can get a full refund up to 30 days after purchasing a product, even if you downloaded, launched, and played it. Yup, you read that right! It's quite the generous offer and likely a move to attract more customers to its platform while combatting piracy. However, the company notes that it reserves the right to refuse refunds in individual cases.

“We’re monitoring the effects of the current update to make sure no one is using this policy to hurt the developers that put their time and heart into making great games,” reads an FAQ on the new refund policy.

GOG also encourages gamers to consider sharing their opinions if they've played and finished a game and didn't like it, rather than take advantage of the refund policy. There are also other technicalities regarding specific cases like pre-orders and gifts. For the former, they can be refunded during the pre-order period and for 30 days after their release date. Gifts can be refunded as a cash or GOG Wallet refund. I would encourage you to read the FAQ linked below for more details.

Lastly, as the FAQ notes: “Please don’t take advantage of our trust by asking for an unreasonable amount of games to be refunded. Don't be that person. No one likes that person.”

I'm pretty sure they're joking, but even if they were being serious, what's complaining about it going to do? People who go full "this is why we can't have nice things" tend to not make for the best managers, and I'm pretty sure the Epic Games Store isn't exactly managed well if it's still playing catch up.

Great news. Pro Consumer policies are rare these days, i am sure more people will develop a respect for GoG and that everyone profits from this in the long run.

Gamestop refund policy is 7 days for used games so what I used to do for my PS3 I used to copy the game and then return the game back to the store. Technically I did buy it I just made a copy of it. Eventually it kinda got tiring doing that and I ended up keeping some of them since they had good deals.

So for this topic alot of people are going to abuse it because you can kinda beat any game in 30 days and return it.

I can't agree with this policy. It exposes them too much to all the wrong sorts of incentives. There is such a thing as being too pro-consumer. They are like the anti-Nintendo.
I'm fearing the same.
People may exploit it too much.
It was already the case that pirates would go for one of those many GOG mirror sites to download their games since there's no DRM.
Now they can even do it without any problems from themselves. Making pirating too easy can't go well.
I hope it turns out good though. I wish CD Project Red only the best. They are one of the very very few good guys in the business.

lmao
Hope GoG enjoys being a rental site.

Way less devs are going to be willing to be put on GoG now. It's bad enough being easily pirated thanks to GoG, now no one even has to buy your game to play it LOL.

People who are going to pirate the game did not think about buying it in the first place. So it's not a lost sale. And giving the credit card info might deter people from getting games this way. Time will tell
