Hi
Have two cartridges , not used for some time and can’t find any links to firmware for each of them......also wondered which is best and has the highest compatibility.

I can suggest you to use the Wood R4 Firmware. Works both for M3DS and R4 (obviously):

Try it out and let me know, if it works.
