I need some help with something. I'm new to Switch hacking. I've been studying how it's done for a couple months now and I know I have a Switch that's vulnerable to fusee gelee ( I bought it February of last year brand new, it was stocked with FW 4.1.0). I thought I would give it a shot and the first thing I wanted to do was make a nand backup, so I tried to push the latest Hekate payload using TegraRCMSmash. It didn't work and now I just get a black screen and it doesn't look like my Switch even turns on. How do I fix this? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Perform a manual shutdown (basically holding the Power button for 12 seconds).

Which allocation is better for SD 256gb exfat, 32kb or 64kb ??
Don't use exFAT as it has a chance to corrupt your SD card and carries no benefits compared to FAT32 which does not corrupt your SD card. For FAT32, you can format it to 32KB.

Thanks I figured it out about 5 minutes ago lol. I just used my sx dongle this time. I didn't know it had an option for nand backup. That's the one thing I couldn't find any info on, even their pdf manual doesn't say anything about it[/

Is there a chance to save my ipatched switch? It was on fw 4.1 - And I've installed atmosphere and the hbl. But stupid me updated the console through ChoiDujourNX.
Now its 8.1 - and atmosphere won't load anymore. Thought the cfw would stay, once it was "installed".
Is there anything I could do? Still got the stuff I needed to dump thanks to the guide.

If you are trying to install it via Goldleaf, it will not work because Goldleaf can only install updates after the old one has been removed. Use a better title installer such as Adubbz Tinfoil. If your firmware is 7.0 or higher, you can only use either USB or network install with Adubbz Tinfoil. If you need a download link for it, you can find one here.

Thats perfect, thank you for that. Yes i use goldleaf as I could not install using tinfoil (fake) as its kept on crashing. I install everything via usb now on goldleaf. I will try out the tinfoil you suggested. Im on 8.0.1, Thanks again.

I did a backup of my NAND a while ago when I think my console was on 3.0.2 and I want to know if it is possible to find out for sure which firmware the NAND backup is on without having to restore it?

At that point, you should sell your console.

Hey guys, thanks for having a place to ask these noob questions.
Which switch should I buy? Are there any bundles on the shelf I should go grab? Does it even matter because there is some kind of mod I can buy that works for any Switch?
I just want to go buy one and tinker, you know?

Look for the serial number, RCMable one you need to get one that isn't patched, patched unit can't use the fusee gelee exploit. As for patched unit cfw support up to 4.1.0 firmware via pegascape.

Is your SD card formatted as exFAT? If yes, then its possible your SD card became corrupted sometime after installing the updates which is preventing you from dumping them because the update files were corrupted. Another possibility is that your SD card is fake. If you haven't tested your SD card yet, use a program such as h2testw or FakeFlashTest to check the integrity of your SD card. Last but not least, you can try updating the games again in SysNAND and copying the Nintendo folder to the Emutendo folder.

The SD card was brand new, but I may try it again by starting from scratch. The SDCard itself was a sealed SANDISK 400GB, bought directly from a Germany-based, reliable, well known electronics mail oder company.

The games, where I am not able to dump the updates don't fail to dum it, it just does not offer it from the first place.

Question time—I ran Atmos (pre-Emunand) and installed NSPs on my switch. I then restored my clean and backup, set up emunand and I haven't connected to the internet since. Is it relatively safe for me to connect to the net on OFW? I want to redownload some legit eShop purchases.

is there a way to update my original smash bros game (and maybe buy and download dlc) to latest game version on my clean virgin ofw sysnand, without updating the whole sysnand beyond 4.0.1?

Fuses are designed to prevent downgrading. A fuse count of 7 indications you can only normally boot a firmware of 6.0-6.1. For reference, a full list can be found here. However this doesn't matter so much when using the current exploit, Fusee Gelee. All bootloaders (e.g. the payloads that boot CFW) bypass the fuse check so technically you can run any firmware version you want.
From my situation if I want to install NSPs in the easiest way (or xci) you still suggest to use ReiNX? or atmosphere? and how hard is to brick the switch?

just updated to 8.0.1 with ChoiDujorNX and im able to get the Hekate bin to boot but it ends up turning off my system after I see the Sept screen. Did I do something wrong?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

turns out I had to boot from fusee-primary.bin after i updated the atmosphere.. does this mean i cannot boot Hekate anymore?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

i also notice that NONE of my games will start now since i updated to 8.0.1.. they all say they are unable to start? What is causing this?

Hi,

Looking at getting a bigger micro SD. Is there certain makes that work/don’t work? Am I right that the biggest that will work is 128gb? Also, is it just the case of transferring all the files from the old sd to the new one?

Thanks!

Well that is the method I use. The other much simpler method involves using the homebrew application ChoiDujourNX. However it involves a homebrew application which means it carries an inherent ban risk. I personally see it as riskier than my method because in mine, I only boot CFW but with ChoiDujourNX, you boot CFW and a homebrew application so the risk might be greater. And in either scenario, you will need AutoRCM enabled at all times to prevent fuses from being burnt (ChoiDujourNX enables it by default). However AutoRCM is incredibly useful as it eliminates the need for a jig and plenty of people use it for that purpose instead of having to avoid burning fuses.

In the case of restoring a NAND backup of a firmware lower than the fuse count, you will not be able to boot the console up normally but you can still boot it up through RCM by using a bootloader that bypasses the fuse check which all modern bootloaders do by default.

At the end of the day, it is up to you if you want to burn fuses or not. I just thought I would let you know of the possibilities you have.

Thank you, very useful information to know - I've learnt a lot already. Maybe I'll try to do this without burning fuses using your hekate method (although I don't really understand your explanation so might just opt for ChoiDujourNX since I won't play online anyway).

Do you have the correct sig patch?

just updated them and it all works perfectly now! Thanks again. Didn't realize I needed those lol... Also what are TEGRA keys used for? I am not able to get them or know if I need them.. Just something I was wondering about. Though I am still able to convert xci. to nsp..

You can get TEGRA keys by using Lockpick or biskeydump IIRC.

I don't get it , why wouldn't you just don't do it the old fashion way, just by taking it out to update it, beside your post has nothing to boot with booting cfw.
You are completely missing my point. I had NO OTHER WAY to access my microSD card. I couldn't BOOT, as I needed to update ReiNX. I know I was in a rare situation, where I used ChoiDujourNX to update to 8.1.0, and ReiNX had just updated to support 8.1.0, so I couldn't use an older version. I have no idea what the heck "taking it out to update it" could be, other than using a microSD adapter, WHICH WAS MY ENTIRE FREAKING PROBLEM. I couldn't boot into CFW, BECAUSE I NEEDED TO UPDATE THE CFW. You ignored every single one of my problems, leaving me to solve this for myself (By staying up to 1 AM.) I am upset that you have the AUDACITY to use another ONE SENTENCED response, IGNORING MY PROBLEM ONCE AGAIN. Please, if you are confused, reread my post to fully soak in what I said.

I hacked my Switch recently and went to restore a NAND backup, but I may have (and probably did) update to 8.1.0 from my 8.0.0 backup.

Right after I restored the backup, my switch powered down and won't turn on.

I've tried to get back into RCM using a paperclip (which I've gotten pretty good at doing), but I've had no luck. Am I screwed?
Hey! I've encountered this before! You are not screwed. Hold down Power and both the volume buttons for about 15 seconds (give or take), until your Switch reboots. This is a handy trick to know.

Let me know if it works. If it doesn't help, I'll help you troubleshoot further.

Obviously it mean taking out the micro sd mean putting it into a computer and replace the file there, it is not our fault if you don't have a sd card reader, it is easy to understand, my initial comment did said either update via a computer or use the homebrew app store to update ReiNX, beside ReiNX can be buggy I don't know why you even using that, I tried one of the recent build recently had to unplug my battery since it won't boot.
