Still dreaming for something like WBFS manager where I was able to make a WBFS partition on my HDD

WBFS was the worst possible file system ever created, I'm not sure why anyone would still use it. Having XCI & NSP on a FAT32/exFAT/NTFS partition without having to do any installation would be pretty awesome though.

Because I hear a lot of people saying that it will be never possible to install or read NSPs on HDDs, so I just imagined that a system like WBFS would be cool enough, it wasn't perfect but it worked for me. But yea, just using NSPs or XCI on usual partition formats would be great

Still don't get why people think "USB drive support but no XCI loading or NSP installing there = pointless, why would you do that"

1. - Support up to 3 extra devices, appart from SD
2. - Plug and un-plug without worrying about a reboot nag
3. - The opportunity to use proper exFAT drivers and care way less about filesystem corruptions
4. - Without having to turn off your console: plug on PC, copy files, unplug, plug in dock, do whatever you wanted to do

And NSP installing there (to USB, not from USB) won't probably be a thing ever since would require a lot of work on FS.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Also, not to mention having to carry big NSPs or lots of ROMs for RetroArch...
Could you please tell us straight up if XCI loading is possible without using shady code?
Love your work, btw.

To me, USB HDD means MOOOVVIIEEES!!!

XCI installation should be possible, lithium / tinfoil added it last night. I used my USB HDD for watching tv episodes when I went on holiday (edit: I use SX OS).

extremely unlikely.. there is no demand for it according to the most vocal freeware proponents on this forum.
Yes, there is. The vocal freeware proponents on this forum don't represent the majority.

Dammit, I just wish I could be any useful to the dev scene.

more than 2 people, but they self claim to speak for the majority of users not wanting USB or XCI support. It's a dumb idea, apparently.

No one wants fewer features, having more options is always nice to have. But since XCI mounting requires Nintendo code that is illegal to distribute it won't ever happen (unless we have some motivated developers try to extract the code from the firmware during runtime). Installing NSPs take a much longer time than mounting XCI, but games get a small performance boost on installed NSPs which is also nice, so no one is trying to get XCI mounting working since there is an alternative.

On topic: Installing from a USB drive will definitely be great, I just wish we get exFAT support tho. Maybe in the future. Keep up the great work!!! :)

I think most people don't even ask because anyone who'd wants XCI loading enough to still be asking has already bought SX OS. If Atmosphere or ReiNX had XCI loading from HDD I'd switch instantly.

If I had xci loading in ReinX, I'd try games like a madman.

There's only two ways to acccomplish that:
1. Make the Switch think, the HDD is the mSD (which in fact would ignore/unmount the mSD at the point you're using the HDD). Dimok did something like that with a FAT32 Mocha CFW build on the Wii U.
2. Expand Horizon's driver to accept more than two storages (NAND + mSD) so HDD could be another target for NSP installs.
However: Removing the Switch from the dock while a game that is installed to an HDD is running, which is connected to the dock, would be a very bad idea.

You don't have to be so condescending. If we can install NSP files on a USB drive, what's the problem? It's a good thing for everyone no?
you got a point there linuxraes
my only problem with usb support is that due to the fact that i keep using my switch all the time in handheld mode i can't attach an hdd or usb to it unless someone comes up with a workaround that allows us to connect usbs in handheld mode

huh? I use a USB c to USB female port adapter like this - https://www.amazon.com.au/USB-C-Ada...b+c+to+female&qid=1554981162&s=gateway&sr=8-1

then I directly connect my Western Digital 4TB USB 3.0 compatible hard drive to my Switch in handheld mode and mount + run XCI files direct from the USB HDD, or I can also install the XCI or any NSP files on the USB drive to my SD card.

USB support is not limited to docking mode.
