So what you're saying is if I'm comfortable using a hardmod, then I can upgrade and burn my fuses knowing that when I want to run homebrew I'll have to do so using some sort of jig.

However, if I'd prefer a soft mod (deja vu or some other future exploit) it's best to upgrade without burning fuses and backing up my current nand. Is that right?
Yes and no. I prefer updating with ChoiDujourNX because it gives me more control on how I update unlike the official Nintendo updates. Also updating your firmware online will always remove AutoRCM meaning I will have to manually enter RCM again if I want to go back to using AutoRCM. You can also downgrade without a NAND backup by using ChoiDujourNX. Lastly, updating officially might not be totally safe with a hacked console since the NAND will likely be tainted, transmitting all sorts of telemetry when you download the system update from Nintendo unless you restore a clean NAND backup before doing so. However even if you do that, you'll then have to make another clean NAND backup since Nintendo believes you to be on a new firmware, a firmware that doesn't match your previous NAND backup.

Tl;dr Its better to update with ChoiDujourNX than officially.

can my 6.0 SFW use any of the free CFW's via the pc if I wanted to hack it now?
Firmware doesn't matter when it comes to using the current exploit known as Fusee Gelee. What is more important is checking to see if your hardware is compatible by checking the Serial Number with the confirmed patched/unpatched units from this thread.

Guys, it is me again... Still trying to follow this video () to finally get that GODDAMN EXfat to be seen on my Switch so that I can finally start actually trying to play backups... The problem right now is that... *sigh* when I am trying to patch the CFW as is in the video (from 5:15 on the video) it tries and seemingly even does patch something BUT sometimes I am able to see a glimpse of red text when patching CFW and then when the console boots up I am, seeminly completely unable to get into the hacked menu (the one you are supposedly able to open by going into "Albums" while pushing "R" and then selecting it by "B", do be free to correct me, I am really hoping it is me who is just being an idiot)...

But other then that I have no idea what I might be doing wrong... I am using the exact same links, I put all the files into the root and then nothing happens !!! Please, I beg of you, if you are able to provide me with a proper for-idiots explanation of EXACT things you are supposed to do I will be happy ! PLEASE !!! I spent my entire weekend trying to do this, buying this and that T_T Please help... I am in tears

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Wanted to share the root of my micro SD just in case, maybe you'll immediately understand what I don't have or have and don't need to install the cfw... Hope it helps.

You're like the 10th or so person to report problems after following this video. Also ChoiDujourNX is pretty self-explanatory and doesn't need an accompanying tutorial outside of the instructions provided in the OP of the main thread but I'll give you one just this once.
Step 0: You report this video for falsely informing users on how to update the firmware
Step 1: Download ChoiDujourNX.nro and place it inside your /switch folder
Step 2: Acquire the firmware files from the Internet and place them on your SD card. Anywhere is fine but placing them on the root makes your life easier. And if they are packaged into a zip or rar, please unpackage them in advance.
Step 3: Use a CFW that supports debug svcs for homebrew. Examples are:
Step 4: Launch ChoiDujourNX and navigate to your firmware folder
Step 5: Once inside the firmware folder and you see the .NCA files, press "Choose" in the bottom-right corner of the screen
The rest of the prompts after this are straightforward

Dude, thank you for your advice ! But now please listen: every time I try to inject whatever and then turn the console off from the main manu after a while I get an error 2162-0002. I am on 4.1.0. Have no idea if this might help...

Okay, I may have understood what the issue was... What I did was simply reformat the micro SD card back to FAT32 and SUDDENLY I could boot up a firmware, do the update to 5.1.0 with exFat... O_O I thought that if Switch is unable to see Exfat cards then maybe putting it back to FAT32 might do something. As it turns out - it did, basically everything...

...As I said, I am an idiot... THANK YOU DRAXZELEX, you are not getting enough recognition, no matter how much recognition you are actually getting :)

The exploit that you're referring to is not dependent on firmware but the hardware of the console; meaning it works on all firmwares currently and yet-to-be released. However this exploit requires the need to enter RCM with a jig or equivalent and a device to send payloads with via USB connection. Not everyone wishes to perform this hardmod for CFW as evidenced in this thread. The unreleased exploit known as Deja Vu and works up to firmwares 4.1 doesn't rely on RCM or a USB cable but rather a network connection; the point is it involves less hardware than the current exploit. Regardless, no one can predict the future or what exploits will be available on what firmware so having a lower firmware is still better than having a higher firmware because it means you have more options available to you. Having unburnt fuses on higher firmwares is the best of both worlds; you reap the benefits of being on a higher firmware while having access to potential exploits on lower firmwares.

Hi Guys!
So I havent been here since the Wii u days, and looking into the switch. Planning to trade a ps4 with the nintendo switch.

But iv looked a bit around, and before I do the trade I just want to be sure.
1. Any switch under firmware 6 is ok? Seen some serial refrences, but not so clear if there are more versions of the machine out there.
2. Can I play withouth getting banned after mod?(local games is more important for me)
3. Is a ban a block on the machine, or just online block?

  1. Firmware doesn't matter as the current exploit relies on the hardware, not software hence why the serial number is important
  2. If you make a clean NAND backup before hacking the console, stay offline with your homebrew/CFW, then restore that clean NAND before going online, you should be avoiding a ban. Be warned that you will need to make subsequent NAND backups every time you go online since your NAND will have changed from the last time you went online, from Nintendo's perspective
  3. Depends on the ban. A soft ban prevents eShop access and online play while a CDN ban prevents those two plus game & system updates.
How necessary is it to copy down the various biskeys/etc?
If you plan to decrypt your NAND in any way, then you will need your biskeys.

Guys, hoe good is the NSP installer built in SX OS 2.0? I've tried to install Stardew Valley and Overcooked DLC.
Stardew Valley gives me a 2002-0001 error, and the DLC for Overcooked gives me "Unplayable Downloadable Content", even tho the Too Many Cooks pack works and the update did too, both as NSP. I'm running 6.0 OFW.
