I have to admit, as a banned user, I still prefer NSP simply because I don't have to use the album to load games. :)

maybe you could post the nfo here instead of "something something"

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Message me when you can find Enter the gungeon xci lol
there are so many releases that are eshop exclusives that xci only users will never play
I have enter the gungeon as xci, I just converted it from nsp. I'm not at home right now but I can post pictures for you later if you want
I think the format war is stupid, each format has it's advantages and a mix of both of them is the ideal solution for a lot of users. For example I prefer to have RE Evil Rev 2 as xci since it's really big.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

A new converter? Has anyone tested this one?
It works as intended it's not a converter, just an nsp repacker it's one of the programs I use in my builder.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

so, I already trimmed all my XCI files... can I still convert them to NSP or should I just redownload everything as NSP files?

Also, do NSP consume the same amount of storage as XCI files? Or is there a difference in size?

thanks!
Yes, they consume the same amount as the secure partition. If you trimmed them with a normal trimmer the converted nsp will be smaller if you use NX-Trimmer the converted nsp will have the same size as it's xci counterpart since NX-Trimmer's purpose it's to clean the update partition.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Trimmed XCIs consume less space. As of this moment there isn't a reliable way to convert XCI to NSP. And also you need double the space because after you install the NSP you'll still have the NSP file in the SD Card.
For SX OS users every game converted from xci to nsp will work as your system already knows how to decrypt nca files signed with cartridge keys. For other users 4nxci creates a ticket that tells your system the key to decrypt the nca files. No issue there, only issue it's an irregular ticket but same can be told with current nsp to xci conversion to tell you the truth. Tickets are just not that good if we talk about bans IMO

This is just my two cents.. but I prefer XCI dumping my own physical cart collection, of which I have many.

The pros in my opinion are:
  • In case of SD failure, replace everything from backup in minutes, without installing NSPs.
  • Legit certs with all my games, undoubtedly the safest method for online, should I care about it someday.
  • I'm supporting physical media, which the industry seems determined to abolish.
  • Now my games are portable, without swapping carts, but I actually own something to collect, sell or trade.

can't game certs be banned? how nice of you to sell a potentially banned game to unsuspecting victims.

Kind of curious, is the debate on .nsp vs .xci still ongoing?

I was only able to find the .nsp format of a game online. Instinctively, i tried looking for a .nsp to .xci converter simply because all my other games are in .xci format, but couldn't find one. I wanted to convert the .nsp to .xci mainly so I can trim the file (I don't know if my .nsp is trimmed already).

What are the upsides to using .nsp over .xci? Are .nsp files already trimmed or is there a program to trim them? Also, if needed, is there a .nsp to .xci converter anywhere? I couldn't find one.

I'm still on the fence about which format to go for. At the moment I have both. One thing I do like is the ability to have one XCI file that contains base game, DLC and any updates. Nice and clean.
I'm not toooo fussed about having to go into the album to switch game at the moment but we will see.

I prefer xci all the way, nsp can't be ordered in alphabetical order if you have multiple sd cards it's awful to find a game if you have a lot of them with xci that doesn't happen and just copy and play for me is amazing, for people that complain about going to the album, well if you have a lot of games it's not as easy as thinking of a game and playing, you will have to search for it

That's a good point. I would think speeds would be faster if installed onto internal memory. I have not tested though.
Loading time seem to be a lot faster, but would love to get some hb tools for validating speeds of sd and nands, love my upgraded ones, plus seeing how my son is just having a cheap 16GB sd in his switch for booting then the 256GB nand upgrade keeps him from loosing an expensive high capacity sd card
