Hello,

I've just bought an used Wii U. On the Wii's main menu, there seems to be a "the homebrew launcher" button — so I assume the previous owner had installed it.
However, when opening it, it crashes with the error 199-9999.

When googling for this error, the only suggestion I found was to reinstall everything. However, I don't know the method this was done previously, so concerned about bricking it by installing one system on top of the other.
I also don't have the original SD card that was probably used to do this.

Do you guys have any suggestions?
Thanks!

If It doesn't have an icon on the home menu that is called "DO NOT TOUCH" or something along those lines, then you'll probably need to give us more information before we can tell what's going on.

Was there a User already on the Wii U?

There was a user already on the Wii U. Changed to that user, but the same error comes up. There's nothing that says "DO NOT TOUCH".
I'm on firmware version 5.5.2E. The firmware automatically updated as soon as I connected it to WiFi.
Happy to give more information.

I can use the console perfectly, it's only when opening the homebrew channel. Thanks for the tip though!

sounds like the HBL channel is installed on a console that used mocha as its cfw

I see. (after some reading) I suppose I'm required to do the browser exploit before I try to open the HBL channel.
Is it safe to install Haxchi over this?

If you meant you're gonna buy a haxchi title for your own account, then it's all good. However, don't use the leftover account or in the future the previous owner decides to move the account to another Wii U, and you would end up with a bricked Wii U.
