The new ntrboot exploit is pretty cool, where you utilize the magnet to trigger sleep mode on the device. I don't really know how this works, but given that you hack the console during boot I was wondering if Nintendo has any way of patching this exploit up? I fear for 11.6 and it ruining modding capabilities once more ..
The only way nintendo could ever kill this exploit is with a revised bootrom. Which since they knew about this and never did with the n2ds xl says that they either dont care or just was too lazy to do so. Any console right now cannot be patched.

What does that mean specifically? Revised bootrom that is .. Is that something they can do by updating your console to 11.6 (when it inevitably is out)? Or is that something they can only install to newly built consoles?

Every time so far Nintendo has managed to find a way to block CFW installation with their newest FW but .. is this it for them? I'd hope so.

The bootrom is part of the hardware.

The bootrom is a physical chip in the 3ds system itself. Without them making revised chips the boot9strap exploit cannot be patched.

In addition to what they've said above, if you want the gory technical stuff: https://sciresm.github.io/33-and-a-half-c3/

I followed the 3dsguide Homepage to install Bootstrap (Browser Version) and now I want to "finalize".
After copy the files i shall install a system Update. Is it safe to Update from 7.1 to 11.5? Yeah I now they write it is safe but I better ask twice ;-) Luma is installed and B9S? I dont know

If you follow the precautionary steps in the guide you'll most probably not get banned. If you want to be extra safe you can disable wifi when using homebrew like FBI. They can't distinguish between legit and pirated titles

Yes it is safe. The guide says
  • Updates while using B9S + Luma (what you have) are safe

Have an issue with my old 3dsxl (was on 4.5u firmware). I followed the instructions for boot9strap (MSET) on 3ds.guide and was able to get through section III ~ and pressed A to reboot my system after all of the security checks and then backup were completed.

My device did not reboot back into luma mode, and now whenever I push the power button the blue light blinks once and nothing happens on the screen. I can push the power button again and the blue light blinks once again. I've followed all of the troubleshooting steps for a black screen but none of them work. When I push the power button I don't think I'm even getting a black screen because it does not even power on.

Anything I've overlooked or can give a try? Thinking I may have bricked this one.

Do you have boot.firm from Luma on your SD card on the root?if the light blinks it isn't a brick, it just can't find the boot.firm file.

Its not a brick. You need to grab the newest boot.firm from the luma3ds.7z file and stick that on your sd card root.

First off, thanks for the quick response as it's greatly appreciated. I went back and confirmed I did have the boot.firm file on the SD card but for some reason noticed it was 0 bytes. I went back and put the file back on (145bytes) and everything appears to be working no.

Again, thank for pointing out what that behavior meant as it helped me find that zero size file. Kudos!

Hi!!

I bought a new 3DS used without much knowledge of the system and from what I understand now after some research, it came with a custom firmware and I would like to use the New 3DS without any exploit :(

I found the Luma app installed, when I open the app, it says:

Luma Updater v1.4.2
Payload type: arm9loaderhax
Payload path: /arm9loaderhax.bin
Backup payload: Yes

Current Instaled version: 6.5-cef947d6 (dev)
Latest version (Github): 8.1.1
Latest hourly build: 4116c1

The system is in version 11.2.0-35U.

Is it possible for me to remove arm9loaderhax? Would you just update the 3ds?

If it is not possible to remove arm9loaderhax, would I be able to update the device to the latest version and be able to use eshop / online games?

Thank you very much for the help!

First update to boot9strap:
https://3ds.guide/a9lh-to-b9s
Then you can remove CFW:
https://3ds.guide/uninstall-cfw

But why would you want it without CFW?

Good day all, I have a question that I am sure has been asked a million times and which I have read the most of, but always seem to get roundabout answers to.

I got a 2nd hand 2DS that has firmware V11.0.0-33E on it and decided to take the CFW plunge. So I followed the following tutorials from 3ds.guide As far as I understand as of typing this I think I have the latest version of Luma and b9s on my system now and everything works great!

So what's the question? Well, I want to create a NNID on the system but in order to do that I need to system update to 11.5. And I have read a lot of conflicting posts about the subject, or it doesn't involve the 2DS at all. SO I want to know: Can I update to 11.5 safely without losing the cfw and the many games I have already installed? And if not, do I have to update Luma and b9s again? and how if that is the case.

One of the main reasons I want to update is because I am led to believe that in order for Monster Hunter Stories to work without crashing I need 11.5 apparently too, have tried to install it multiple times, imported the seeds etc but it still crashes. Will the 11.5 update really fix that?

Thanks in advance!

You already have Luma / B9S so updating is 100% safe and won't break anything/ delete your games.
