Ataribox Design Revealed

Ataribox1Resize.jpg
The Ataribox, a new console by Atari, has been circulating the net for a while. We finally have confirmation as to what it looks like, and the fact that it will be a modern console, competing with PS4 and Xbox One! It will also support old Atari games, probably through emulation, but that is not Atari's main focus. There are two designs to choose from, the "wood" model and a "red/black" model.
Atari said:
Inspired by classic Atari design elements (such as the iconic use of wood, ribbed lines, and raised back); we are creating a smooth design, with ribs that flow seamlessly all around the body of the product, a front panel that can be either wood or glass, a front facing logo, indicator lights that glow through the material, and an array of new ports.

It has also been revealed that the Ataribox will have HDMI, 4 USB ports, and an SD card slot. Below is an image of what the red model looks like from the front and back.

More details are to be revealed soon!

Most are thinking this is just like the mini nes / snes - sega est.

The hence of mention "Games Old and New" most possible remake's of older Atari games, maybe some new titles 2.. well "Maybe"

EDIT: ^ Original email says "classic gaming content, we will also be delivering current gaming content."

Is like saying it's Small looking Ass is Bigger then it's intended to be!

Personally, I'm thinking it might be something where they have modern games for sale (hopefully by third parties as well as first parties) and maybe a couple retro packs or whatever, and you could get one retro game each month, kind of like the switch. I think that would be pretty cool but, its Atari, anything could happen.

It has also been revealed that the Ataribox will have HDMI, 4 USB ports, and an SD card slot.
In the picture I see 4 USBs, one Kensington or maybe USB-C, power, ethernet, HDMI and... something that looks too narrow to fit an SD... hmmm

If someone's gonna get a console, why choose this over a PS4/XB1/Switch/PC?
Someone who?
It may not be any knowledgeable gamer's first choice, but consider the following audiences:
Impulse buys if the price will be sufficiently low
People just wanting to try something new*
Grandmas and other stereotyped buyers of licensed movie games
Collectors (synonym: Scalpers)
People who just want to mess with it, if the hardware/software will be sufficiently open*
Tournament prizes

* Except for these points, I've basically described the Wii Mini and Digiblast audiences :P

I just looked closer, and it appears you may be right. Definitely ethernet, possibly usb-c, and I think that might be a micro sd card slot. Guess we'll have to wait to see if you were right, though I'm almost certain you are.

But who would buy this other than for nostalgia's sake? If someone's gonna get a console, why choose this over a PS4/XB1/Switch/PC? It's a tough market, and I don't think they're gonna have a good enough incentive to get people to buy.
If its a new console, It should have current-gen games, what else? I mean, It will probably console exclusives to help sell it, I believe its supposed to be current-gen

Yeah, maybe console exclusives. That would be the only possible selling point I see, unless they really surprise me. Because why buy an Atari for current-gen games when the PS4 and XB1 already have well-established ecosystems where their friends are probably at and large game libraries? Other than the small crowd that would buy a system like the Wii U (minus Nintendo's influence), I don't see Atari's new venture taking off.

Yep, other thing that's little odd is all is at the back, and 0 at the front, apart from few very small holes.

Can't see what most consoles use, that's an I/O on/off switch of some kind how to turn off and on .. interesting voice maybe lol , na pad..

Only thing now to to wait and see if any GamePad turns up in future image are email, most likely wireless are usb supported .

Would be nice to see what the gamepad would look like 2 :)

Am I missing something as well ???
If this is to compete with Xbox & co... Where's the Disc Slot ??
Surely we're not going to rely on the SD card

Hope it's not going to be something like a 'cloud streaming' system where you have to rely on atari servers to run the game & not the system itself

We'll find out. I think they want to go wireless, but I suspect controllers attach to the rear USB ports (otherwise there would only be two, and side-by-side)

You cannot possibly be expecting to pay $60 for a Asteroids cartridge, $60 for a pong one, etc.

No doubt it will come preloaded with as many games as they can realistically put on it. Hopefully they cull it to 50 or less really good games and not 4,000+ shovelware games.
