M
odule that allows you to install a customization library of the theme of your NES Mini.
Theme customization menu:
01 /Change skin,
02 /Change background color,
03 /Change Animation screen saver.

Amazing job!.... Could you create a .mod to permanently delete the screensaver?

Thx.

Do you have it plugged into a service usb port on your tv instead of the adapter and a wall outlet? I have heard of this happening while plugged into the service port...
Had a similar thing. I had it plugged into my laptop without my laptop being plugged in. I guess my laptop didn't have enough power or whatever to run the nes classic, because it kept giving me error messages and wouldn't let me load on any games. It kept saying it wouldn't write (I don't recall the exact error message) and once, it even tried to get me to install the drivers and everything again, not recognising the nes classic.

There may another factor or few at work. If I had more info on your general setup, I could better clarify things.

1. You may have bad rom set

2. General c8 crashes can occur, and are harmless. These are from folder browsing.

3. Not sure how many games you are doing per folder, as well as total mb you are flashing.

4. If you do the steps outlined in my memory issue post, that may help you. And, what rom set you using? Do, they have ! In some of the titles?

Also, when powering off. It is not always a fresh boot, unless you unplug the power from the mini or whatever it is plugged into, so that it officially powers off completely, with no remnants.

I have ROMs from a variety of sources over several years. Most are from EP. I generally keep around 30 games per folder.

Even after clean reload, it continues to crash following Down+Select to exit a game (both of my NESCs). It's doing it with arcade ROMs, NES ROMs, Game Boy ROMs. Last time when it would crash everytime I turned it on, I did completely unplug it first, and the problem persisted until I wiped Hakchi off and reinstalled.

I have 293MB out of 304MB available loaded with ROMs.

I never had this problem with 2.14c. I may revert back to that version. I guess I'll scale back the amount of ROMs I have on there too. What's a safe amount to leave free?

It's plugged directly into a wall outlet.

is there any way to tell how much space you have left including all the games and hmods ? Right now, in hakchi, it says 242mb out of 300mb. But is that just the games or is that the games AND the hmods ? I ask because I would really like to add a game that is 19,640kb, which would bring the total to about 260mb out of 300.

If you're using v2.17, then the maximum amount will update.

300MB appears as the maximum when your NESC is not connected. If you connect it and turn it on, the counter will update. For mine, it shows a maximum of 304MB. If you start with a completely wiped unit, then it is about 344.4M. That goes down when you install hmods.

If that somehow doesn't work, go into your user_mods folder and see how big those add up to be. Then subtract that from 344MB to arrive at remaining space.

I selected the games folder and the user mods folder and it said 305mb. So, would I be able to add the 19,630kb game with no problems ?

That'll put you at around 325MB, which mathematically is OK. However, I'm troubleshooting mine right now, which I have at about 335MB. It's crashing when I close games.

Keep in mind you'll want space available for save states.

My memory video will clarify things a little. Read the info I posted, as well. You need to clean your memory. You are also flashing way too many mb in games and hmods.

I have gotten countless messages asking, when, why, who, where, how, etc. So, I am posting this to consolidate for convenience.

My status is going quite good. So, good, in fact...that it is quantifiable as 2.5, rather than just a mere 2.0:)

ETA: 1-2 Weeks (In the meantime, expect some interesting videos from me, such as

-AI/Algorithms in games, and how to exploit. I take one of the most difficult games on NES and make it "easy", with an exploit of the ai, and another nifty workaround:) I will also briefly go into ai and algorithms in other games. Algorithm and luck manipulation can be the difference between a game being easy or hard. Did you guys know only "one" ghost truly follows you in Pac-Man! Understanding how algorithms work has also netted me a Platinum Trophy in Atari Flashback Vol 1 on PS4. It appears only 2 other people have achieved this, thus far:)

-How to 1 to 1 rip Sega CD, PS1, Sega Saturn Games without removing audio, etc.

-More Zelda Style Clones

-Racing Games

-Suggestions for video ideas also very welcome:)

***Changes, thus far from V1

-CPC Amstrad Added

-Errors Corrected from V1 (Missing Art, Wrong Art, Missing NGP Command Lines, and so on.)

-FDS

-GB Enhanced Set Added & Merged (function only in b & w since they were meant to run on Super Game Boy)

-GBA

-GBC Enhanced Set Added & Merged

-MAME Expanded

-NEO-GEO Resized to be slightly smaller, along with reflecting file sizes in game names

-N64

-NES (nearly 200 additional; translations, hacks, etc)

-NES OST Set

-PCE Japanese Exclusives Added

-PSX Expanded

-Sega CD FULL Set (with exception of ones "over" 330 Mb, since they will not work.

-Sega Game Gear European Exclusives Added

-Sega Saturn Added (Don't get too excited! They run slow)

-SG-1000 Set Added (predecessor to SMS)

-SMS European Exclusives Added

-ZX Spectrum Added

***Planned to do

-MD European Exclusives

-MSX/MSX2 if possible

-Odyssey if possible

-SNES European Exclusives

-Suggestions Welcome:)

I got the ROMs down to a lower amount, but it's still crashing after I down+select to exit games. It usually takes a second or two before it turns off. No onscreen error message, it just cuts out. It's doing it now with version 2.14 and 2.17, and it didn't do it before.

Would the debug version be able to identify any upload or ROM errors?

It also crashes when I save a save state and press down to load one.

Edit: I uninstalled everything, then reinstalled only the custom kernel and the hmods, with the original 30. It runs fine. I guess I'll just keep adding ROMs and testing it to find what is causing the problem.

My experience loading 2.17 from 2.13e:

The 2.13e had ~ 298MB worth of games on it.(according to Hakchi 2.13e)

First thing I did was uninstall ALL hmods, next I flashed the original dump kernel so that I'm back to just the original 30
games and stock mode, finally I reset the factory settings to clear any save states.

When I loaded Hakchi2 I had ~ 20mb/300mb showing.

Next I loaded the NES driver.

I then loaded my hmods (mame2003, neogeo, genesis_plus_gx, glupen64, mednafen_pce_fast, retroarch, and snes9x2005) which left my user_mods folder with a meager 16mb of mods.

Next I transferred my games folder from 2.13e (332MB, size on disk) and suddenly I was over the 300mb and hakchi2 was showing ~313mb.

I then removed metal slug 2 and another game and was back down to ~296mb.

Then I loaded my folders/game art/etc in the folder manager, then synch'd.

When I went to syn it showed I used ~296mb/322.6mb. So my total NES drive size is 322.6mb

So in conclusion, even after uninstalling every hmod, flashing the dump back to stock, and resetting the factory settings.. Hakchi2 with version 2.17b
tells me I can't flash ALL the games I had from 2.13e. I figured after I uninstalled everything I would be able to, but like everyone has indicated here I can't.

My "theory" is that, although 2.13e allowed me to flash the games I had.. version 2.17b is probably much more accurate in displaying my disc space.. which
is what's creating these "memory issues" which could be an illusion in the sense that ClusterM may have made this new version much more accurate.

So far no error codes (knock on wood.. I've tested/loaded NeoGeo/SNES/TG16/MAME2003mini/NES)

Download and install 2.14b...some of us here are still using that version..the "real size in mbs left hakchi 2.15 2.16 and 2.17 " is a pain in the ass...2.14b --- no more fel mode..try to reload your hmods and games..you won't be disappointed..

I understand the mame_mini hmod in size wise but mame2003 supports wayyyy more mame games btw.. :)

I think I have figured out the problem with the NESC crashing upon exiting a game. Last week, I changed the folder position priority from the default "Right to the games" to "Left to the games". I just changed it back and loaded up and exited multiple games, and it no longer crashed.

The crashing seems linked to the creation of save states, since a save state is formed after exiting. I have no idea why changing the order of folders and save states can cause a crash, but that seems to be what happened.

Yes you keep on saying that.. I think you are really missing out on the save state manager though. I was surprised how much junk there was left on my Mini using that tool for the first time. Some games like Yoshi's Island and a shitload of Game Boy, GBA games etc. make save states automatically (like fake battery backups) which are impossible to remove in the GUI of the NES Mini or RA otherwise and take up a lot of space. Besides I have now every time a fresh copy of my save file from Link to the Past and a few other games on my desktop so I don't have to lose progress again every time I need to restore or update my system. Your claim about saving space on 2.14 mostly concerns people with a 64 bit architecture system, there have been major improvements for people since 2.15 with a x86 system due or a memory leak that now has been addressed. Since 2.16 the system became a lot more manageable for most people (Besides the save state manager, FTP access is great way of cleaning your system, modding and troubleshooting). What I am trying to say is that the downgrade doesn't always benefit people like it did in your case. Also advising people just to downgrade works counterproductive on a threat started by a developer who hopefully keeps on developing this amazing software a little while longer.

I swear this thing is possessed.

Upon exiting a game, the screen goes pure white or gray, and I have to unplug it. Then I get 2 consecutive C2 errors. And now it seems to work, but save states aren't being generated when I exit games.

Sounds like you have some bad roms or one of your hmods is corrupted, try to uninstall and reinstall your hmods. Actually if I had your problem I would start from scratch again, remove hmods, uninstall traces of Hakchi, flash OG kernel, reset factory setting on Mini itself and reinstall everything. Takes not more then 10 min. to do these days

I've done that a couple times now. I thought it was a folder issue, but now I have to install ROMs small amounts at a time to narrow down the cause.
