I thought I somehow was missing something for the automap feature, turns out I was right haha.
Thanks for the reply, and its good to know that the softlock is already a known issue.

I'll let you know if I find anything else, thank you so much for your work on this project!
Are you able to reliably reproduce the soft lock? Tips for how to do it would be appreciated - thanks.

I put minimal effort into setting the default key bindings. The keys are configurable and no matter what I pick it wont please everyone.
I like the idea of the bigger buttons on the mini numpad. I will try to add that while I move the automap to the bottom screen. I might move the hud to the bottom too... not sure.

Okay here's what I do:
(Using black N3DS, latest FW 11.4 using Luma3DS 7.0.5 stable)
Installed the homebrew through CIA using FBI's URL CIA installer.
Only two files; doom.wad and doom2.wad, are inside /3ds/prboom3ds/.

Started new game in fresh file, no changes in any game config.
Knee Deep as the episode of course, in Ultra Violence.
Go through E1M1 through the main path, grab armor, kill all baddies on the way without unlocking any secrets.

Once I get to E1M2, all it takes is just a couple of shots to the two guys at the hallway right in front of where you start and it locks up there.
It sometimes went a bit further, but letting them kill me in E1M2 and respawning in the level, then shooting the two guys again crashes the game as well.

Let me know if you need any more help with this, if you still can't reproduce it, I might take a video of it to be more clear.

Game working great on Doom 2, I just have one minor issue. The config file always gets created on the root rather than 3ds/prboom3ds/
Even if I move it into that folder, it still creates one on the root. All other files work while in the prboom3ds folder.

partial fix for soft lock issue (adjusted compile/link settings)
prboom.cfg file saved/read from /3ds/prboom3ds directory instead of root (you will need to manually copy the existing file in order to preserve settings).
various status bar/hud/automap/keyboard adjustments

Where you able to reproduce the softlock without issues?
Yes. I was able to produce the soft lock - thanks for the help there. essentially the problem resulted in continuous calls to P_Move/P_TryMove that would never end. I tried a debug build for easier debugging with insight/gdb but I could not get the debugger to break correctly. I noticed that I could set breaks in the ctrulib code. This lead me to look at the build settings for ctrulib. After I adjusted the build settings I was no longer able to reproduce the error. Unfortunately, I still can't get insight/gdb to work correctly. If anyone has some suggestions for getting insight to work then please let me know.

Thanks for the update! Are those buttons on the sides of the touch screen functional yet?

i installed the doom and doom 2 gba advance on my friends 3ds with the VC converter and it runs great but the grphics of doom 1 were very bad and doom 2 is still playable, the issue is the doom 2 damaged the speakers of his new3dsxl or it might be some other gba game as the sound of gba games sounds very tiny and bad on new3dsxl, if someone wants to play gba advance games i suggest to keep the volume at low while playing

I recently installed doom v.0.5 on my old 3ds and it works great. But my question is how can I configure to play with the circle pad? Thanks!

Proper circle pad support has not been implemented. However, you can bind the circle pad in the key bindings section of the menu. There are distinct events for up down left right.

Are you using this version? https://github.com/elhobbs/prboom3ds/releases/tag/v0.5-alpha
If so then send me a save file from right before you hit the switch and I will take a look later tonight.

i have an issue with this new version...when i try to save the game to continue it lately , always put the message "save data failed"

you know why it happend?

EDIT:neither save .cfg
EDIT2:my fault...i created prdoom3ds on root and not on 3ds folder
