Hello everyone! Recently I've been working on a translation patch for Puyo Puyo Tetris. My original goal was to translate some of the basic menu text and using a few resources online I've manage to translate a decent amount of the game. Enough is done where I think a somewhat full translation could be possible, but unfortunately I've gotten to the point where I don't think I'll be able to proceed much further without outside help.

Right now I mainly need some help with translating various graphics as I don't know japanese. So if anyone want's to lend a hand with the project, please let me know.

Some top priorities as of now:
  • Translating the text from this image (this would help finalize a ton of the in-game text)
  • Finding the non graphical text (top screen info text, adventure mode stage text, etc.). I believe they could be contained in either the .comp or .pss files which I've seen throughout the RomFS. If anyone knows anything about these let me know.
  • Editing the CIA banner. If anyone has any experience with blender or other programs used to edit .obj files, let me know.

What has been translated so far:
  • Title Screen
  • Main Menu
  • Single Player screen
  • Endless mode
  • Character Select screen (w/character names)
  • Most of the pre-game/pause menu text.
  • Most of the Offline Multiplayer text (I can't get this mode to work on either of my consoles though)

This is a general list of what's left to be translated:
  • Adventure Mode Menus - I'm not to concerned with getting the story text translated unless there's someone who actually want's to do it
  • My Data
  • Online
  • Lessons (Menu text is mostly translated)

Some screenshots and a link to the latest version of the translation can be found below. Also please report any glitches or errors you may notice. Included are LayeredFS plugins for both the original game and the v1.1 update as well as a "fixed" banner.bin.

Puyo Puyo Tetris English Translation v0.2

Will you be making a CIA Version on "That Chaos Site?"

I haven't been able to find where the story text is located, as well as the some of the main menu text (untranslated text in this image).

Isn't the story text in "tenp/text/adventure/" take the "chapter00_F0Japanese.narc" file for example when you extract it you get .fif files which are the font and .dat files which I assume is the dialogue.

I believe in in the past I read those font files will only include the characters used within the text so when replacing with English its possible characters would be missing, but if I recall correctly there is a font in the game some where that has all the characters, could just use that one to replace all the ones that don't.

All speculation on my part though...

Maybe a plugin could be written for Kuriimu to deal with the files?

The Nintendo Switch is still:
1) hard to find, and
2) less portable than the 3DS.

The 3DS version is of interest to anyone who wants a version they can carry in their pocket.
Well, my thumb gets sore whenever I use the 3DS to play Tetris.
So I'll just play it on the Switch with ENGLISH VOICES FTW!

Not everyone likes the English voices. (Many prefer the charm of the Japanese.) Also, again, not everyone has the option of the Switch right now. Hope you're using a Pro Controller for the Switch btw if you find the 3ds hard to use.

I'm guessing when the Switch version comes out the progression of this translation patch will increase dramatically!?. Does anyone km w if the switch version has the ability to use the Japanese VO with English text?

Yep. Infact, I DO have a Switch Pro Controller, so I'm all set.
Hey, maybe they'll have an option for Japanese Voices (Highly Doubt it tho...)

I haven't even bothered checking any of that out since I got Luma, Freeshop and ftp transfer running. I'm not interested in streaming or any kind of other app to run games. Either I'll get a cia somewhere or I'll wait and get it somewhere down the line on PS4 or Steam if that ever happened.

Thank's for the advice, I'll go over and check that out.

Also I've just updated the patch to v0.21. Made some small changes and fixes, also the game modes and character names now match the English release.

It does not, would require rebuilding the Download Play CIA that is packed into the main CIA, I quickly tried this out and just ended up with a black screen, haven't took another crack at it yet.

ok, seems the patch worked for me at least, not sure to what extent local multiplayer is translated but hopefully I can tell what game modes there are more easily

May you tell me how do you work? I mean how to do you extract the .narc files, how do you find for strings and how do you replace them. Really wanna try and maybe do some PR's :)
