Hi guys, I have a question. Im not a noob in the scene but I am completely noob regarding to this and CFW in general (always have used gateways emunands and ive been happy with that)

Long story short, my GF bought an used 3DS already hacked, but it seems and it was asking for an update. I told her to not update cuz i wasn't sure if it would be able to keep working normally after that.

With the limited knowledge I have (and distance we also have) I asked her to send me a picture of her firmware so i could see if its running in some emunand or whatever and when I saw the picture it says "Sys 11.1.0-34U". Google-ing and looking around it seems when the FW says "Sys" its a CFW and its luma3DS.

So I would just like to know, is it ok to update when it asks and be able to use it normally (even get into eshop and stuff like how I do with emunand)

Thank you and sorry if this has been asked before, but I really couldn't find stuff regarding to this when looking.

try chainloading hourglass9, if you can it has a9lh and it is safe to update, put the hourglass9 payload in /luma/payloads. name it x_Hourglass9.bin

then turn on the system and hold down X, it should load hourglass9, if it doesnt, do NOT update.

Sorry for double posting. She did all you said, althought when holding X it ran Decrypt9 it seems, AFAIK it is close to hourglass9 right? (although it seems more dangerous) but well, it means the update should be ok? Thanks again.

EDIT: here is a pic of it

Did you download wrong zip file from @dok3?

Hourglass9 is a stripped down version of Decrypt9.
Anyways since it chainsloads into any payloads it means you have A9LH already installed.

Well i sent her the link of what seems to be the official site and the file even had hourglass on the name (before changing it to what we were told)... So yeah I was also like uhhh, why? But ok... , thanks!

Once you throw in hourglass9.bin into SD/Luma/payload folder, make a NAND back up of your GF's 3DS then copy the NAND backup file to a safe location like online storage.

Finally got it working.^^
Imported (with some help) the old emunand and used NASA to install Home Menu and the other thing since FBI always gave an error because the file already existed and now it seems to work.

Yep! I've had no issues so far!

Does it break anything to the previous stable build? Also, if i update to 11.2 (not sure if i need to as of now because A9LH an all) will that break anything? :) I know NTR has been updated for 11.2 but apart from that, anything I need to be aware of? Stability on a CFW is what you need after all ;)

I don't wanna mess up what I'm about to do. I was just reading about how if people use RxTools they should switch to something else cause it's dead. I also read that it's easy to switch and it gave me a link, but didn't exactly explain -how- to switch. Do I just download the Luma3DS zip and put all of that in the root of my SD? I'm sorry, I'm really a noob when it comes to this and am extremely scared of messing up.

yes, just did this yesterday. extract all and edit your boot.cfg to point to the "luma".3dsx. that's about it.
