This one's a real horror story, even though it's the EoF.
I was doing an A9LH install. I was one of the last to use the old guide, not bothering to wait for the new one, underestimating how great it actually ended up being. So I had set up the emuNAND, flashed it to sysNAND, was on 2.1. A9LH wouldn't install, throwing an error every time. (It had turned out that I'd forgotten the data_input folder) So I decided to wing it and go back to 9.2 to install A9LH. So I grabbed OTPHelper and got my OTP, then started restoring the 9.2 NAND. And then, right in the middle of the restore, my hand slipped and I closed the 3DS.
I kind of panicked. Neither of the screens were showing anything, and it wasn't doing anything either. Pressing buttons yielded no response. It stayed like this for a few hours, until I decided to go to an IRC channel (whichever one cakey recommends for help, I forget EDIT: #3dshacks on Rizon) and ask what to do now. They said restart the 3DS. I restarted it, expecting a brick.... And it booted up normally. Everything worked fine.
I'm not really sure what happened. Maybe the NAND restore succeeded while the screen didn't show anything. (Although it didn't respond to pressing start at all, which would normally restart the console after the restore completed) Maybe it was restoring non-critical data and was done with the titles. Either way, I immediately got into Decrypt9 and restored the NAND again. A9LH still didn't install properly, but I eventually figured out what I'd forgotten.
So yeah, that's my horror story.

I'm kinda living a hacking horror story right now. I've recently unlocked the bootloader of my HTC One M8 and rooted it since I wanted to remove all the bloatware. But then I discovered that there's no official way to relock the bootloader, meaning I can't play pokemon go on my phone. The only way to relock it and gain S-OFF on my particular phone (meaning HTC's security is switched off and I can install custom roms) is by using the SunShine method which costs £20!! (Then again that's not really a lot so I'll be using SunShine sooner or later)

Someone deleted the os0:sm/ partition on their PS Vita using a really dangerous homebrew and put it into a boot loop.
I feel sorry for the poor noob who wasted ~£100 on a really nice Sony handheld. :unsure:

Once, a while ago. I was trying to root my Droid RAZR HD (rip buddy) and after doing some commands, dropping some files into my root and other stuff, I was prompted to reboot. After getting into to fastboot menu and configuring some things, I was led to believe I would be rebooting again, and was greeted by this screen:

I literally just sat there till my eyes glazed over and I muttered "oh fuck" to myself over and over again, because the phone was still relatively new. I did eventually get it rooted correctly, but lost my root due to an OTA update. Then a year or so later a user on here that goes by QuietlyAwesome helped me root it again, and freeze my OS on 4.1.2. I stayed that way for as long as I could, until last summer when the SIM card bay died.

Sure your hacking inspired Horror stories in the honor of Halloween! ;O;
I'll go first!
People are still using RXTools!
I used gateway a9lh twice (which failed miserably) before remembering new 3ds does not have 2.0 and have a different encryption that only require arm9.
I thought Satanist can deal with lesser entities.

Using Brickwait isn't lesser, it's worse than RXTools because you paid to be out of date.
