Yeah......... I bricked my first 3ds following a youtube tutorial as well shit happens.

Anyway, you guys have convinced me to install a9lh.

The written guide has everything you need also
Plus it's very detailed. At no time was I guessing what to do. Last night I had to do it while everyone was asleep and I had all night to myself...for the first time in like ever

It's been covered a lot already in this thread, but there are 2 main reasons that I would not recommend a youtube tutorial:
  1. Youtube tutorials become outdated quickly. Plailect's guide constantly updates with the newest information about the tools required.
  2. If you follow a youtube tutorial, you're less likely to understand what you're doing exactly. This can be troublesome later if you have a problem and don't understand exactly how the system works.
Anyway, that's my two cents. It's been covered a lot already in this thread, but I just thought I'd mention my thoughts.

Thank you.

Thank you for admitting you were wrong, not a lot of people would have done that. I have respect for that.

I'm sorry for your bricked 3ds. Hopefully you'll be good now and can help the community :)

One thing for sure first and last time I follow a youtube tutorial my laziness cost me that day.

Yeah, I'm not really one for noob mistakes at the time I was under the impression that as long I 9.2.0-20U downgrade files I was good(couldn't have been more wrong lol). Bricked was lost in confused then I realized that my downgrade package had higher than normal megabytes than another downgrade package I downloaded which in turn lead me to the discovery that there were two completely different downgrade packages other than that everything went as smooth as balls in till my beautiful brick lol.

In addition it's much easier to specify where you had trouble.

With a video I suppose you have to give the exact time in the video, and if someone wants to help, he would have to find it and watch it.

Theres your prolem.

Theres to much fake shit on youtube.

Yep.
I recommend Dark Flare's tutorials. Back in the day when 4.5 was only hackable, I used one of his tutorials to downgrade. Sure I was scared too, I also was at work without the charger and 3DS laying open on my desk, but it was downgraded sucessfully.

CTGP7 worked flawless too when I watched how to install it. So his tutorials are safe.

Wow, YouTube's being shit on, lol.
I'll play the other side of the coin.

It depends on the tutorial really, most are crap, some are decent. MrMario2011 makes decent tutorials. If it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't even be here :P

Sure, they can get outdated quickly, but you can still follow his guide, since it still works. I do admit, textual tutorials are better than video tutorials, but video tutorials are great for noobs. Don't forget, noobs can't read ;)

I'm more of the kind that prefers watching than reading though. :P

But still, MrMario2011 does indeed make some good tutorials.

I personally found some guys very good on YT (but I prefer reading) and they helped me understand some concepts, like the a9lh installation process, with their videos.
You learn because you want to learn, and you can learn from anything: a video, a written guide or anything else; just be smart enough to "convert" words into knowledge/information :).

However, OP did it and that's good, have fun :).

only at tutorials. at gameplays or stuff like that is really good.

Of course.. some tutorials are good like PS2 controller sync problem for PS3 Jailbreak REBUG.. Anyway, most people are rude at youtube.. tutorials or not.. Most youtube sucks big time. I said MOST. :)

I never understood all the crap-talking that is going between the a9lh and menuhax camps.

All the other 3DS forums are laughing at us, you guys know that right?

A9lh people, why does it affect your existence in the slightest if someone chooses to do OTP extraction or not?

Menuhax people, i know you are sick of all the a9lh master race cancerous-aids that is going on, but posting negative stuff about a9lh is fuelling the fire. Just ignore them. Please.

BTW: I use a9lh and menuhax on my multiple 3DS units :)

i seriously don't understand why people like to follow youtube videos for stuff related to computers..
with a written tutorial you just have to follow step by step usually.. you just read an follow..
with a video the first thing in most cases you see is a dude writing on a notepad, or annoying music, dude speaking too loud, dude speaking too quiet, barely speaks english.. annoying\unnecessary zoom just to show an "ok" button..
and you have to pause the video, and play with the slider back and fourth..
also the screen is being recorded with a camera, or a big amoount of time is used just for center the view when using the screen capture programs

in some cases video tutorials are good and usefull but it's just 1%...
Yeah I remember I was following a guide on Youtube to install Rxtools and it didnt even work rxtools kept on failing no matter what so I formated forllowed the written process and on the first try Rxtools booted

Not really In the homebrew tutorial I was stuck on the text thinking that the 3ds folder was the Nintendo 3ds folder and deleting it only leaving the 3ds folder and boot.3dsx

Well that's your own fault for being unable to follow directions.
Yeah but the only reason I use Youtube is for proof and a visual on what I am supposed to do

It's funny, because all the proponents of the a9lh supremacy movement are composed primarily (99%) of people who extracted their OTP after the brick-proof tools and tutorials were released.

They don't know anything of the struggle that us people who installed a9lh back in late January had to face. I bricked my O3DSXL 3 times before i got it right. Lucky i had a hard mod, otherwise i would have a paperweight right now!
