We want to get an IOS 236 on his system so he can actually have the necessary permissions to install a clean IOS 58. But it seems his SD card is broken or there's some other really weird IOS error.

OP, have you tried a different SD card?

I have tried 6 different SD cards ranging from 128MB to 4GB all did the same issue

I have versions V6-V7-V8 and all fail. From what I have read on other forums that it looks to see if it was launched from HBC before patching

I think he installed a bad version of IOS250 due to the fact that it freezes when trying to mount the SD card. Would anyone be willing to upload their vwii version of IOS58? The reason I want IOS236 installed is to get rid of IOS250 and still have a IOS with NAND access.

Or maybe not.

To the original poster:

What if you try installing a wad (no dangerous wads mind you! Just a test wad...like a vWii forwarder or something) from USB storage using YAWMM-EN? If the SD Slot has an issue (I have a feeling it does not..but) this would work. If that is possible you can then install a clean vWii version of IOS58 using that method, then get HBC installed and then ultimately work on fixing the rest of the mess.

Here is a step by step anaylsis of what happens when I try to flash a WAS using IOS250.

1. Load wiiu into vwii mode
2. insert SD with boot.elf and apps
3. start batman and do the glitched save
4. YAWMM-EN starts and asks what IOS i want to use for flashing (I pick IOS250)
5. YAWMM-EN asks were to load the WAD. I choose SD
6. YAWMM-EN then freezes saying mounting SD... and nothing happens.

I just tried using a USB thumb drive formatted with Fat32 with same result as above.
I also tried using IOS36 with YAWMM-EN and it mounts the SD card fine. I then pick the WAD file and I get error -1017

Your SD card slot is fine. It is obvious that he installed an older cIOS that is not compatible with the vWii. You might have to remove this cIOS's (249/250/251...they are doing you no good anyway) and try the d2x 10 beta 52 or 53alt installer again.

Does the DX installer need IOS236 to work or does it preload a IOS that has NAND access? See that is what puzzles me.. What starts the process of giving NAND access to a stock vwii? Does the hackmii installer flash a special IOS or does this start withe the DX2?

The hackmii installer discovers an exploit in the stock IOS and uses it to install the HBC. It does not flash any IOS. Once the HBC is installed it allows (obviously) homebrew to launch. The d2x installer installs the cIOS to begin with, so you wouldn't need a cIOS with NAND access previously to install it. I believe the d2x installer exploits the stock IOS (58?) as well to install the cIOS. But I think there is an option to use a stock vWii IOS58 wad in the same directory as the installer if I am not mistaken? Someone might need to chime in...its been awhile.

Ok just tried the D2X installer again and I get the the menu were I am suppose to do the following from the tutorial:

7) Install d2x cIOS on different bases/slots
Start HBC and launch d2x cIOS Installer Mod v2.2 -> press a wiimote key ->
- at "Select cIOS" press right and select "d2x-v10-beta52-vWii" or "d2xv10-beta53-alt-vWii"
- at "Select cIOS base" select "56"
- at "Select cIOS slot" select "249"
press A to install -> cIOS 249 installed.

Repeat the above procedure for IOS57:
- at "Select cIOS" press right and select "d2x-v10-beta52-vWii" or "d2xv10-beta53-alt-vWii"
- at "Select cIOS base" select "57"
- at "Select cIOS slot" select "250"
press A to install -> cIOS 250 installed.

Repeat the above procedure for IOS58:
- at "Select cIOS" press right and select "d2x-v10-beta52-vWii" or "d2xv10-beta53-alt-vWii"
- at "Select cIOS base" select "58"
- at "Select cIOS slot" select "251"
press A to install -> cIOS 251 installed.

But at this point it fails saying its trying to download data from NUS

It sounds like you are getting somewhere. You probably need the official vWii IOSes as the installer is not seeing the right versions.

Sir, All I am trying to do is replace the IOS's my friend corrupted with a fresh set. I know this maybe a lost cause but no need to make posts like that. A true geek will break something then have the thrill to find out how to fix it just to break it again LOL. I am learning and wanting any

@zektor I got the PM thank you!

I thought a true geek knows how to not break stuff in the first place, otherwise I would be in dire need of soldering skills or I'd have few bricked consoles myself...
Also fun is fun, no need to hate just lighten the mortal morbidness a little.

You gotta take it break it apart to know how it works LOL well atleast I do. I know its fun and I know other people have done far worse to consoles. Thanks though @Sumea for the good laugh

Silly question, are you certain you are using the vWii d2x v10 installer files? There are ones for Wii and vWii. The vWii version is not supposed to download anything from NUS but extracts what it needs from the console...unless of course it is not getting what it needs I guess. You can try putting the IOS wads for the vWii on the root of the SD card and running the installer again.
