installing isnt the issue, deinstalling is. Its an major pain in the ### do so since you only will see random numbers and have to guess which is the right one.
Just delete them from Data Management in emunand (not sysnand)

so the issue with everything being deleted when entering the software information on cfw got resolved? didnt know that.
Thought that happens only in sysnand

Boot up time is like any other game, install time is the issue. There is a theoretical limit, but its quite large and not something you really need to worry about.

I maxed it out with custom vc cias. It makes other installed stuff disappear until you go below like 333 items or something just over 300 titles.

So I got rid of all my custom vc titles and switched to retro arch :)

The top reasons for buying a Gateway:
* Built-in ROM menu

I wouldn't say that's a reason to get a Gateway. If anything I'd want my games to be separate items on my 3DS, kind of like how Wii Shop titles were separate channels on the Wii, since it makes it feel more authentic and looks nicer, too.

Jesus you must have one helluva collection on your 3DS. How many of those games have you played?

I seem to be confused again. If anyone can help me out, that would be great. :)

So my o3DS was bought on launch day, and is at Ver. 9.2.0-20U.
It is completely unhacked, haven't even used my DS flashcards on it before.
I have a few hundred dollars worth of games installed on it that I got through services such as the Ambassador Program, Club Nintendo, code giveaways, and a few purchases as well.
I care very much for my save data (in games, activity log, etc.)
I hope to be able to play the games I install after hacking my 3DS online. If this won't be possible, I hope to at least still be able to play the games I've bought, including my retail cartridges, online.
Obviously, I don't want to brick my 3DS.

With all that said, can someone point me in the right direction? I thought all I needed to do was install RxTool, but I've been told that I need to already have CFW installed in order to install RxTool.

I literally don't know what to do or which guide to consult. If you can help me one-on-one, I would GREATLY appreciate that. I really don't want to lose any of my saves, brick my console, etc.

Seriously follow this guide, it is really simple, it covers every possibility. You will skip a large part as things won't apply to you (since it covers every combination of circumstances)

You won't lose any of your stuff. When you create an emuNAND it will be an exact copy of your sysNAND including all your installed software, NNID, friends list, etc. Just make sure you back up your SD first before choosing the option "format emuNAND"

So would I be doing "Downgrading + Palantine/PBT CFW" or "FBI Injection"?

Stay on 9.2

Use the browser to install homemenuhax and boot rxTools automatically.

Just remember to remove your SD card and format your 3DS (sysnand) after you format your emunand, so they won't use the same files.

Thanks for the clarification, I remember seeing the limit but did not want to misrepresent the number!

Whoever is saying friends list doesn't work on rxTools must not be running current version. I have no problems with it. Also if you have sysnand and emunand unlinked there is no way for you to lose all your installed items, you can do SD management on sysnand or emunand, nothing screws up. If you want to delete things, you can use the built in SD management, or you can use a cia manager such as FBI, and look at the titleid and type it in at 3dsdb.com to see what it is. It really is not difficult or scary to do. At this point there is zero reason to use Gateway. 100% of the issues that rxTools has can be overcome using NTR 3.0 at the same time. I am using Menuhax 2.0 to autoboot into CTR Boot Manager 0.8 to autoboot into rxTools Oct 27th build. All I have to do is hold select after Menuhax starts if I want to boot into Homebrew Launcher or Decrypt9, or any other number of things you want to add to the list. And if I hold L after Menuhax starts, it will go into the rxTools menu. If I just turn on the 3DS and wait, voila it goes straight into emunand 9.5, with 80+ games installed and working perfectly online. Any game that I originally had issues was, was from playing an out of region game (I have and AUS N3ds and prefer USA roms), and can be fixed using NTR 3.0 Language Plugin. On top of that, you can run the NTR CPU unlocker to have all your games load and run faster if you get or have a New 3DS. Put in the tubehax DNS server on your internet connection settings, and then you can't accidentally update, and you will not have the Nag. So if you work at it a little harder, you can have the best version of everything, 100% free of a flashcart. Even the most recent game, Triforce Heroes, runs and play online perfectly on rxTools. I don't regret getting my Gateway, its served a great purpose for the last year, but it is completely obsolete now.
