Considering getting a DSTWO+, good idea or should I go Gateway?

I have a DSTWO and have been happy with it 100% since getting it, it's simply the best DS flashcard I've ever used. Granted I no longer emulate GBA or SNES games on the DS because of frame skipping but the multi save feature and save states for DS games are very useful to me, even to this day.

Now, the DSTWO+ is out, and I'm considering getting it. However, I understand it emulates Gateway. Does that make this a Gateway clone, susceptible to bricks from newer official Gateway firmwares or something? I'm kind of worried about that. Or will the DSTWO+ emulate it in a way that the official Gateway firmwares will think it's the real thing?

I'm not really buying this for the DSTWO part because I don't like playing DS games on my 3DS, but the DSTWO+ is cheaper than Gateway.

Can you guys help me decide which flashcard to get?

Will CFW let me play the newest games, like Pokemon OR/AS or Triforce Heroes? Can I go online?

Damn, care linking me to the thread you're referring to? I may have read an obsolete thread regarding CFW..

Yeah if you are 9.2 or lower, but if your above that gw and dstwo+ won't work anyways.

Oh, then what's the point of getting a flashcard in the first place?

Since cfw there really isn't one.

Oh, thank you for letting me know! I have completely disregarded the 3DS scene since it seemed way too confusing to me compared to the DS's "buy this flashcard, put files on SD card, play" scene back in like 2010.

Only real benefit now is being able to run .3ds files, not all of us want to install .cia files. Up to the individual if its worth it or not. I have best of both worlds, gateway and rxtools.

There are plenty of tutorials on here that explain how to get set up. Once your up and running it's just as simple. Put the cia on your SD, install, then play.

What's so bad about installing .cia's? If anything I would rather have my games appear as separate items on my home menu, since it would make my library seem more "legit".
Thanks, I'll go ahead and post in the [Release] rxTools - Roxas75 3DS Toolkit [fw 2.0 - 9.2] thread for help!

I think CFW only plays 3DS games as CIA and not .3ds files. So you have to install the games as CIA which seems to take a long time per game (~30 min I think).

Some people don't like having to wait for the game to install, which if you have downloaded a game from the eshop you know it can be considerable. It only has to be done once though. And some people like a clean home screen. I really don't mind.

There is nothing bad about them, hell I use them from time to time, but installing giant games is very time consuming. Again, how much this matters will vary from person to person. Rxtools will be just fine for you tho.

Ah, is that it? Once a game's installed it boots up within a couple seconds, right? And there's no limit to how many games you can save as long as you have enough space on your SD card, right?

Boot up time is like any other game, install time is the issue. There is a theoretical limit, but its quite large and not something you really need to worry about.

2 things reguarding CFW, 1 is the friends list freezes on you when you enter it so you can not add anyone to your friends list, and 2 is out of region dlc will not work without a addon called ntr cfw.

Alright, thanks for the heads up. Installing time really is absolutely no issue in the slightest to me, since it's only a one time thing, and actually makes it feel more like I bought the game from the eShop, too, so it's worth saving money by not getting a flashcard to me. Plus, it's just 30 minutes, I haven't touched my 3DS in months/a year, 30 mins is nothing :P

Oh, I did not know this. How would I go about adding friends, then?

Based on that response, forget a flashcard, rxtools or whatever cfw you are interested in will be just what you are looking for. Good luck!

Really, flashcards are more user-friendly, easy to use and overall more stable. I personally use both Gateway and rxTools, but really it's up to the user to decide what you prefer.

So basically, Flashcards really aren't obsolete.

As far as i know there is no way to currently until the rxtools team fixes the issue in future updates.
