A few things

1) How are you accessing FBI?
With Ninjhax
2) Do you have Cubic Ninja? (it can help us make this easier)
See above
3) Have you ever installed a game/cia into your 3DS before?
Plenty of times...To emunand, never to sysnand. Hence my confusion to your step 1.

I think what your problem is if that you aren't using any signature patching which is required to install any unsigned CIA, if you've installed things on your emuNAND before then the process is the same, including the part where you have to boot into CFW... Boot whatever CFW you're using into sysNAND mode with signatures patched... On second thought if you have Cubic Ninja why not just use pastaCFW, boot that then boot ninjhax again and use FBI to install it to sysNAND... After that boot back into pasta and use FBI to install sysupdater, then update... Also using 3dnus will not work as anything 9.8 and below has been removed, look in the updates and themes section of "that ISO site" for a post by packret which has lots of useful stuff in it including full update packs, it's a sticky so it's hard to miss

There are your problems.

First, with your computer create a folder named dbs, then create 2 text files, rename them as title.db and import.db and put them in that folder, put that folder in your SD card, into Nintendo 3DS/<id0>/<id1>/dbs

The directory you end up putting your "dbs" folder should also have an "extdata" folder. You may have two sets of these <id0> <id1> folders if your nands are unlinked so you should put them where they are missing naturally.

Once all these files are in the right place just go to System Settings -> Data Management -> Nintendo 3DS -> Software and let it repair the files. CIA installation should work after this.

Now you need a CFW to install it, set up rxTools 2.6, launch it and as it boots press R to open the menu, boot it into your sysnand, when it boots run ninjhax 1.1, run FBI, install sysupdater.cia, make sure target is set to SD and not NAND.

I think the part I'm having the most trouble understanding is your usage of the term sysNAND. To me it means the stock system nand with no hacks going on that boots up normally, as opposed to emuNAND which is the NAND being emulated. But you're telling me to boot my cfw into sysNAND. By this, do you mean Launch Dev Mode? This is where most of the confusion lies.

Yes, sysnand is the normal stock nand, when you normally turn your 3DS on you are in sysnand, you can also boot many CFW's in it patching signature checks in the process, the use of rxTools Dev Mode launches in sysnand.

Ok let me explain... emuNAND stands for emulated NAND... It's a copy of your 3ds's NAND on the SD card, what we mean is sysNAND which is the NAND inside your 3ds, when we say boot into sysNAND with a CFW all it means is patching signatures so CIAs can be installed not on emuNAND, so when you boot your 3ds you'll be able to see the installed CIAs without booting CFW (you won't be able to launch them which is the point of CFW on sysNAND) for now let's say that devmode will suffice for these purposes

OK, so in the end, I should end up with 2 apps on my sysNAND. FBI and Sysupdater which is to be installed from within a custom firmware such as rx tools. The problem I'm having is that when I install them, they are not showing up. Do my nands have to be linked for this?

So you were able to successfully install the cias in Dev Mode + Ninjhax?

Dev Mode + Ninjhax?
Here's what this is meaning to me:
Boot cfw. Then launch Ninjhax. Or am I launching my cfw FROM Ninjhax? Where am I now? HBL? Back in the cfw? Maybe I'm not understanding the order of the steps. Break it down for me. Pretend I'm retarded. It just feels like there are details being left out that I'm missing.

Ok, here's what I'm doing. I'm using cubic ninja to boot HBL and then launch rxtools. Do I got it so far?

You are missing badly lol

1)run rxTools either through the website or Mset exploit, as soon as something appears on screen, press the R button to open the menu.

2)Go all the way down where it says "Dev Mode" press A.

At this point your 3DS will boot in your sysnand, it will look like you just powered your 3DS on but you'll be infact into rxTools.

3)Open Cubic Ninja and run Ninjhax, you'll be sent to the homebrew menu, open FBI and install sysupdater.cia Destination:SD.

4)Reboot your console, you probably won't see sysupdater.

5)Run rxTools into Dev Mode again, it will tell you that there is a new software added to your homescreen.

6)Open it up, if you alreasy placed your updates folder, you can go ahead and update.

3DNUS doesn't work anymore, you have to get the update pack from that iso site.

Yes, if you can find a ROM of Smash Bros rev02 you can use it to update to 9.2. Hold d-pad up while entering Gateway Mode to disable update blocking.

Next time, don't give advices which can brick people consoles...
Yes you can update your sysnand with a rom, but only with the 2.2 launcher.dat. But it's not a full updates, so devmode/pasta + sysupdater method is better.

if you get the modified pack of cias from that iso website related to the 3ds then it will not update mset/agb/whitelist so it wont update ds mode/dsi mode/ds profile hack
so yes with the modified pack you will need no further changes for ds games (if your flashcard works now it still will)

as for the pros of updating you can boot directly int cfw with the initial press of the power button https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=LcAMVMpXjzo its the reason to update your systemnand
this is done using themehax so you need theme support ie 9.0 or 9.2 systemnand

Thanks! So heres my plan, please let me know if im doing it correctly

1. Update to latest emunand
2. Install fbi
3. Install rx tools
4. install the modified update cias using fbi

Which goes first 3 or 4? Anything im missing?
