This is actually a useful topic and I'm kind of surprised nobody else is responding to it. I'm thinking about ordering that 2GB Trancend card, but at the same time, the Patriot 2GB 60x microSD card looks like a pretty tempting buy, at $45 shipped.

Does anyone have any sort of experience with either of these cards? I don't necessarily expect them to perform on par with the famous Toshiba/Kingston Japan 1GB microSD, but I think it's understood that some sacrifices are to be made for 2GB capacity.

I've got a 2GB Sandisk Ultra II. I tested it using the SD adapter and the SD slot on my laptop along with all the other cards I have come across so far using HD Tach. Random access test is a little slower than the 1GB version but seems to work fine with the R4. Haven't had chance to give POR a good test yet but it gets passed the 'pressing start rapidly' test that crashes some of the others.

Micro SD Card Type|Manufactured|Actual Capacity|Avg Read|Random Acs|Burst Speed

Corsair 1GB A|Not identified|952MB|6.7MB/s|1.3ms|6.7MB/s
Corsair 1GB B|Not identified|952MB|6.7MB/s|1.3ms|6.8MB/s
Kingston SD-C01G|Japan|982MB|7.5MB/s|0.2ms|7.6MB/s
Kingston SD-C512|Japan|488MB|7.5MB/s|0.2ms|7.6MB/s
Sandisk Ultra II 1GB|Taiwan|968MB|7.5MB/s|0.4ms|7.6MB/s
Sandisk Ultra II 2GB|Taiwan|1.88GB|7.4MB/s|0.7ms|7.4MB/s

It's interesting to see the actual capacity differences between the manufacturers (30MB between a 1GB Kingston and a 1GB Corsair!). I'll test more manufacturers cards and post next week.

Patriot is a decent US-based chip manufacturer. They are not as well known as Kingston or Sandisk, but then how many US chip manufacturers are there?

anyone knows where to get
Sandisk Ultra II 2GB|Taiwan|1.88GB|7.4MB/s|0.7ms|7.4MB/s
for a good prize?

Which country?
germany
but any country will be fine as long as they offer cc payment and delivery to germany.
the cheapest 2gb that ive seen here was about 60€ (75$), and it wasnt even an ultra 2 card
It's a sellers market on 2GB cards at the moment, so prices are high!

The best 2GB micro SD you will get for it's price. It's in Canada though. Link. I bought from the store before. (In store not online) Kingmax makes great flash memory. Runs at 66x.

i would rather buy 2 1G micro sd cards, faster and cheaper. also with the size of a micro sd card, it is not a problem for me to carry an extra one.

On the transcend 2gb microsd, there is a customer review saying, "Tested this memory off a USB 2 connection and ReadyBoost rated the speed at random read 3568KB/s, sequential write 2295KB/sec." What is the typical read/write speed on microsd? Is this card slow in comparison? thanks.

The read speed alone is about 24x which is kind of slow for running ds games. I recommend at least 60x read to run DS games well.

So what happens if your card is too slow? Does the game lag or is loading time slow? Man all i really want is a card with lots of room for cheap and that will play most games and homebrew. I was thinking 2gb but is 1gb sufficient? Cause no one knows if any of these 2gb cards are compatible with the R4.
