You can't because they will be signed to the new encryption, it will give you an error

What makes you believe that? Last I checked the n3DS only used new encryption for Arm9. I don't think games/cias are effective by this. You just won't be able to decrypt the Arm9 binary which is needed to boot emunand for 9.6.

Just note it's not that simple. You'll also need to transfer over other things in your NAND to the older copy. Like the ticket.db file and the contents of the data folder (assuming that portion will work correctly on 9.0)

Didn't think about that hmmm well I seem to be stuck for the time being then. Anything I can do about it since I don't have a Gateway?

Ha well I think I need to do a little more research before attempting anything yet. Are there any helpful places to go for info on this? Also would doing this on sysnand be a bad idea since I don't have an emunand?

Well it's legit content, so it should still work on older FW assuming you transfer the ticket file for them correctly and both the 9.6 and your 9.0 are using the same private.sed file. You just need a way of decrypting NAND and extracting the ticket.db file. Though I think that file also contains tickets to system titles. Not sure how well a ticket.db file form 9.6 will behave with a 9.0 system.

You only need to copy over the private.sed/data folder if your 9.6 image was formatted separately from your 9.0 image. If they both have the same friend code, then you know for sure they are using the same private.sed file and data folders. So assuming the ticket.db file is copied over correctly, your SD installed apps will work in 9.0.

EDIT: If you have a NAND mod you have nothing to worry about as long as you keep backups. The n3DS doesn't have any additional anti-nand swapping tech in it and isn't much different in how it behaves in terms of having old NAND backups restored to it compared to old 3DS. So you're good to try it. :P

Sweet well that's good to know. I think I'll just give it a try. yifan_lu says that bootstrap + decrypt9 works for the N3DS (https://gbatemp.net/threads/n3ds-nand-decrypt.385530/#post-5424650)

Yeah if I ever get the money to buy a n3DS, I plan something similar to this to system transfer to n3DS. I plan to nand mod it. Backup 9.0/9.2 FW. Generate xorpads, let it update, then system transfer to it. Then take out the private.sed/data/ticket.db files and plop them over to my 9.0/9.2 backup. That should in theory work. But I won't know the finer details until I eventually try it. :P

When Kart3DS gets released they might have a trick up their sleeve to allow system transfers without updating. I would hope so anyways. Would make things much easier. :P

Ya I hope so. I am still new to the 3DS scene so I don't quite know how everything works yet so I may wait for Karl. I was just glad I was able to get the hard mod done without breaking the thing to be quite honest. :yaynds:

Yeah. Perhaps someone will release a ticket.db homebrew that can extract and inject tickets without messing with the tickets for system titles assuming the system title tickets are important or if 9.6 tickets are different. If any new titles got installed to nand in 9.6 and it ends up having tickets for missing system titles, I would assume the 3DS would just delete the tickets or ignore them.

Can't think of anywhere else to post this so thought here was a good bet.

Anyway, had my new3ds (non xl) apart to do the hard mod tonight, and tragedy struck while i was just about to disconnect the trigger and power ribbon cables and the 3ds slipped and fell into my lap (about 6 inches away) and the damn power button cable snapped. :(
Really pissed at myself atm and sad at the same time...
Anyone happen to know where i can get my hands on a replacement power button/cable at all?
Looked on ebay and found everything BUT that one. :(

Atleast i still have my o3ds xl working i guess, even though i just system transferred a few days ago...argh.

EDIT: Well it still works at least, just has no real power button. haha

It's not pretty, but it works as a makeshift power button until i can find a replacement...

Yes, where the black tape is the end of the broken cable. Melted a bit of it off to expose to tiny ass wires and taped it down.
Luckily (i guess?) it broke closer to the actual power button and not near the motherboard.
