nintendo are stupid.
they didn't see the 3ds sell rate when the gateway team released the flash cart. it increased by alot!!!

Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft sell their consoles with a loss (except for Wii). Yes, they actually loose money for each console you buy. They are planning to make money from games/licensing/eshops.

How are Nintendo stupid?

It probably didn't. But anyway, even if it did, game companies tend to make the most money on the games they sell, NOT the consoles. Because 99% of these people would buy zero games, it's still useless for Nintendo.

Very wise.
The takehome message is Gateway is in control.
And cheapo cards made by people who don't know much (r4i) aren't worth saving a few bucks for.

People might say "Gateway is evil" .... but they will buy the better safer card.
"The better safer card" is the one that has no kill code on it at all. So, probably the MT-card, from what I've been reading lately.

Regardless, let's look at all this from another point of view. R4i Gold Deluxe Edition 3DS isn't made by the original R4 team. Rather, it's made by a company that is merely riding on the back of the R4 brand, a name that is well known across the world. The same team/company set up another name called 3DS-Link, most likely a method of fragmenting a market in a bid to try and gain the majority share.

Even if Gateway succeeded in ruining the reputation of these clone cards and preventing them from copying their launcher in the future, what do you think would happen next? Gateway will reign supreme and everybody will definitely buy a Gateway card in the future? Consider this: I have an R4 flashcard right next to me, but it's not an R4 flashcard. It can't be, because I bought it brand new for £7 years after the original R4 team had long disappeared. Probably more than 95% of cards with the official R4 logo on it existing in the world aren't made by the R4 team.

So, back to the R4i team who aren't the original R4 team, but are instead using their name only for the purposes of brand recognition. What do you think will happen when they release another card called the Gateway Gold Deluxe Edition and start selling it to retailers across the world at an amount that seriously undercuts the original Gateway? Do you think the Gateway team will lower their prices and try and compete, all the while improving their firmware just so the cloned Gateway card can redistribute it with no modifications whatsoever? The truth is, when this day comes, they won't be able to make enough money to support developing the card further, and they'll disappear just like the original R4 team did.
