Looking under the different settings in the Data Management option, the only suspect options I see there are the 'Save-Data Backup' option under the 3DS tab. In that there are 3 options; Backup, Restore, and Delete. But they only backup game saves.

Ah yes. That's what I pressed. However, I didn't press any of the options. Despite that, it still prompted me to create something to the SD card.

I'm currently draining the battery life out of the system, although I suspect that will not work...I'll keep you guys updated.

It was something under data management. I cannot remember what exactly it was.
Just right after it created something on the SD card, that screen showed up and is present wheter or not I power it off and on again.

Again, like I said, it was in Gateway Mode, EMUnand.
Can you be anymore specific than that. It is incredibly helpful to the teams, and to other users who want to avoid this issue, if you can tell us exactly what happened. If you were justly blindly messing around with settings, not really knowing or understanding what you were doing without any point, then WOW.

Like I said , some 3dslink users got the problem too and they didn't went to mess with those settings , so that way is not the only one for it to happen

That doesn't help us at all, and a big part of these cases are users messing around without admitting it or even knowing that what they did was not safe, so that's why they don't explain anything.

Streeve, please try to explain exactly what you did, and the conditions of your 3DS, SD, etc; otherwise, not even Gateway will be able to do something about this problem.

You need to flash that old NAND back. Or I'd imagine that would probably fix things. Might be worth doing the repair route, but you'll still be in the same position in regards to flashing it back.

Step by step:

4.4.0-10E 3DS XL with Gateway 3ds exploited installed. Everything worked perfectly. Tried out a couple of region locked games as well as regions corresponding with my own. Enjoyed the region free bit quite a lot, since that's the only reason I really bought a Gateway 3DS to begin with. All games were played as instructed, in Gateway mode. Updated the EMUnand to GW3DS 7.1.0.14-E at the same time as I installed the exploit, and that worked fine. Didn't bother trying out any of the internet based applications, just out of precaution NOT wanting to brick the system I just bought for 260 dollars + Gateway 3DS for 100 dollars.
I did not play any retail carts at all, as the imported games I have are still sealedi. (As a matter of fact, I just sold my old model one with all the PAL games, for this very purpose, to be able to play the imports)

(People claiming I was "probably acting careless" need not to reply to the thread anymore. I have experience of modding PS2s, PSPs, Wiis, Xboxes, dreamcasts. Software as well as hardware. All in all, I know what i'm doing. This is obviously some sort of bug that bricks your 3DS, IF this is the fault of the GW3DS, which we cannot be 100% sure of yet.)

I go in to system settings in GW3DS mode. I go in to Data Management, wanting to check if there was anything installed on the SD card from GW3DS that the 3DS would be able to recognize, or applications from the games I had tried out.

And this is where it all happened. I instinctively press "Streetpass Management", and it says it installs something to my SD card. It takes 0.5 seconds for the files to install, and I wasn't even able to react to press "cancel". It installs the files, and it seems fine. I then exit the screen, and BAM. Blue screen of death, with the error message I posted in my initial post. It's stuck there, period.

My real NAND did not have Streetpass, nor spotpass enabeled, and it did not have have Wi-Fi enabeled. I also had no intention of enabling it on my EMUnand (Except for when I updated the EMUnand firmware).

Needless to say, I'm rather pissed off at the moment.

Whoever wishes to report this to GW3DS is welcome to do so.
Having 360 bucks flushed down the toilet from something that could potentially be their fault doesn't really make me want to contact them regarding the issue.
Unless they are willing to service my machine for free. Again, IF it is their fault.

I should just have imported a japanese 3ds. Sigh.

I got you. Seems that the problem is having the original NAND almost empty and attempting to create data for streetpass (etc) from zero in emuNAND overwrites something on the real NAND that causes the System to fail to boot (since it's impossible to boot directly to emuNAND).

About the hardware mod, I would say you are lucky in having a 3DSXL, these models are easy to mod to get access to the NAND; you could do this even without soldering for what I have read.

I hope you are willing to forward this problem to Gateway, since the emuNAND is still writing information on the original NAND that can cause booting problems.

Isn't the emunand supposed to be sandboxed or something alike to prevent it to write anything at all in the original nand? If not, then using emunand for anything other than playing games is really asking for a brick... lol is even going to the eshop safe like that?

I thought the gateway mode was sandboxed, but apparently it's not. I downloaded the bravely default demo while usig emunand and can see the channel when I first turn on my 3ds in 4.1 ofw. The youtube channel is the same way, I can see the channel when I'm in ofw, but downloaded it with emunand.

Please don't recommend somebody tr to write NAND without soldering. That's idiotic. It's easy to solder and fix it but trying to skip the solder is a recipe for disaster in most cases.

And the fact that EMUnand was supposed to be sandboxed didn't really help at all.

Would you be able to track down as to how you would go about doing that? That would help alot.

Not really. Like I said, if someone else wants to forward it to them, then fine. As far as I am concerned, they just set me back 360 bucks in worst case scenario.
They should at least compensate me by reflashing my NAND for me, if anything. That would make up for it. I'm sure they read on here anyways.

I have a lot of experience in soldering, so that's not an issue. I just need concrete information (a post in that NAND thread, for example) explaining step by step how to reflash the NAND. I don't really have the patience to look through the entire thread.

Streeve,

Basically, once soldered, your 3DS will become a "SD" card (well kind of). If using windows just use W32disk imager to write your Nand file back. If using linux, use dd

Ah, I see. Would you be kind to point out some more information as to how I would go about doing this?

All help is GREATLY appriciated at this point.

I will just ignore what you said because you seem to be ignorant in this matter.

Not trying to be a dick, but at the moment you are using a beta launcher, so this stuff can happen and testing these firmwares is left at your own risk.

That "NAND thread" contains pictures of the NAND of the XL and tells you where to connect the wires from the NAND to the SD card and I think they are in the first pages. You just plug the modified SD to your computer and use the Win32diskimager (the same used for creating the games images for Gateway), select the NAND.bin file and write it to the SD plugged to the 3DS (again, just check the first pages for this).

@SylverReZ, I also heard one of the Prince of Persia games was so unfinished that it required the "24/7 online" drm so a puzzle could be done and the game could be finished. And that when the Ubisoft servers were closed the (cracked) game was impossible to finish or something like that

@Xdqwerty, That's extra scummy. Ubisoft nowadays ship out incomplete games like Skull and Bones which was being worked on for nearly a decade now.
