Jean, you might want to mention in the OP that people who lack the Gateway but have a <=4.5 3DS can use the Gateway files to get emuNand (before its too late) without buying the kit.

? so i can dump my nand with the 'blue' card? any compatible ds mode flashcart?

Yep copy the blue card files add the exploit, copy launcher.dat to sd card. Go to profile and launch the exploit and follow backup steps.

I've been reading the link over and over again. I followed the links to twitter and so on. But I can't seem to see where it states (insinuate) that measures are been taken to prevent emunand.

Feel free to deep link me, because this this noob (jqrn) is too noob to find it.

No, it never states that emunand will be blocked, but most updates other than bringing features, they block flashcards and these flashcard features. Emunand may or may not work with the new firmware.. But better safe than sorry.

Hmm, I was holding off on updating until they fixed the saving bugs... What to do...

IMO, you should. You never know what Nintendo is preparing. When they update the firmware, it is mostly to patch the vulnerabilities, enabling the use of exploit.

First post updated, it has a dummy proof tutorial for backing up your nand, feel free to use it. Read it first and after making sure you have everything you need follow the steps just as they are written.

Wait, so let me get this straight. From reading the other posts in the thread, the following process seems to be a possibility:
  • Turn on Wi-Fi and let the 3DS download the 6.3 update (but not install)
  • Disable Wi-Fi
  • When you have access to a flash kit, dump the NAND and set up emuNAND
  • Turn on Wi-Fi, put the 3DS in Sleep Mode for 10-15 seconds to let it start downloading an update, then kill Wi-Fi (3DS deletes update)
  • Update emuNAND
I would indeed play it safe, because I find it unlikely that emuNAND is perfect in emulating sys NAND. Nintendo can build in anti-emuNAND code that does checks like checking the timing on NAND access, etc. similar to how DS AP worked.

I edited the guide on the first post.
I removed unnecessary comments (wait 1 hours ... it takes 10min you don't need to wait 1 hour), etc.
I added few steps (remove SD card, boot GW, etc.)

If you have suggestion or comments on this guide, let me know.

And then gateway would patch out that code. This is hardly trivial for nintendo to block completely.

It's quite possible that 7.x will break emunand, even if unintentionally. But since gateway can change whatever they want in the system (almost), I can't see emunand being blocked forever.

Yeah, but I guess we won't have access to eshop.

I really hope the Gateway team will find a way to patch this. R4 is crap. So we can only count on the Gateway team !!!

This sounds like the way to go - I can download the update, but not install it, staying offline, and I can wait until the next Gateway FW which hopefully fixes the saving bugs... Once that's out, I can apply it, set up emuNAND, and then apply this update only to emuNAND, not sysNAND. Until then I'll just have to put up with the update nag.

I don't understand your steps.
If you download the update on the Real NAND and wait until it prompts, the update if fully downloaded.
then you say to let it downloading an update in sleep mode (it won't download any more updates as you already have it), and kill Wifi.
Killing wifi while updating deleted the downloaded file(s)? You verified that after killing wifi it's downloading from the start again?

In my understanding, if it doesn't delete the file, what you are doing is :
Download the update on RealNAND -> Do an EmuNAND based on it (which will have the update too) -> Use that already-downloaded update to update the EmuNAND (dangerous? you should be sure it will apply the one in EmuNAND and not the one present in RealNAND)
The Real NAND will always prompt you to apply the downloaded update :/

I prefer the method explained by GWTeam.
Go to setting and force a download/update right away while in EmuNAND's settings.

Oh well I don't really care about newer games.
There are so many games to play.
Multirom seems promising and even just with drag and drop.

+1

I don't even know were to start when my GW arrives. And then there is my pile of already bought and unplayed games:

Super Mario 3D Land (only played through with Mario)
Zelda OoT (unfinished)
Fire Emblem (unfinished)
Theatrythm (unfinished)
Kid Icarus (finished but want a complete 9.0 save)
Luigis Mansion (started)
Paper Mario
Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars

What's out and I want to play:
Zelda alttp
Bravely Default
M&L Dream Team
Resident Evil
Mario Kart
Animal Crossing
Pokemon
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Layton games
Etrian Odyssey games
Donkey Kong

Damn... I return my GW when it arrives and play the games I have...

is there anyone that had already downloaded the 6.3 update before creating emunand? so we know if we can download it before receiving the gateway, and then install it from emunand.
but quick, there's not much time left!

I had the update downloaded into my system since day one, but I can't guarantee that your system will download the update within just minutes, it may take its time (hours) to ask the server if there's something to download.
