Sorry if this is nooby or spammy. I am hoping to figure this out and hope that my examination will help others. Any help is deeply appreciated. Through the process of setting up and reformatting various 3ds consoles with cfw, i have started to understand the 3ds and its cfw much better. One thing that is still eluding me is a process to achieve a complete head-to-toe system restore. I would like to protect myself from my own silly mistakes or even against SD card or hardware failures. In the past, every time i had to start fresh, i still ended up in a position where i would need to reinstall each CIA or hshop title again, and then manually restore each save with checkpoint. I would really like to avoid that portion if at all possible, or at least learn to do it correctly. Is that something CTR Transfer can be used for? I’m guessing i need encryption key backups from gm9? I’ve made those, just not sure ive used them correctly yet. How do i use properly use Movable.sed? Sorry if these are silly questions, but i would very much like to understand better. About NDS saves: I get that NDS-forwarded saves live on the SD card, ouside of the “Nintendo 3DS” folder. I’m curious if that is always the case for all NDS games, whether installed on-device via NDS Forwarder, or via .cia generated by YANBF, or even installed via hshop. Do they all save to the SD, unencrypted? That makes them much easier to backup and restore. I am one of those hoarders with too many games, VC titles, DS games, and forwarded emulator injects. I’m hoping to limit the number of steps required to achieve a full restore so i can rest easy while playing around with cfw. Any help is greatly appreciated! Figuring out the above stuff and understanding it better is my primary goal. But i do have a bonus question. How different is this process if I also use 1 emunand partition? Yes, i know emunand is unpopular, but I have really enjoyed it as a solution to the 300 title limit (remember, I’m a game hoarder). I know there are other options, that work by renaming the “Nintendo 3DS” folder, but i did not enjoy the UI tradeoffs of that approach. Thanks for the help, yall.

Misc Get game saves back after resetting 3ds

I want to get my pictures/save back from a game called face raiders that comes with the 3ds. When i was trying to homebrew it, i factory reset the console and now that i modded it all my data is gone. I have the boot9.bin file and my essential.exefs is corrupted. I do have the original 3ds folder and the titles. I tried restoring my saves with checkpoint but it wont detect face raiders. Any help??

Face Raiders is an internal (NAND) title saving it's data to NAND as well. Factory reset ("Format System Memory") throws away the user profile and changes encryption keys.
Before factory reset two or three warnings are given that all personal data is going to be erased. Shouldn't be a big surprise.

I don't remember if Checkpoint even supports NAND titles. Either Checkpoint or JKSM has a setting that could be changed with any text editor to enable backup+restore NAND title save data. In any case such a backup must be created before factory reset (which isn't even needed for installing custom firmware).
