A new system seller? What do you think about Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave?

From my post earlier this week you probably already know which game I'm talking about. Fire Emblem released yesterday to some pretty rave reviews. Looking at OpenCritic right now, 97% recommend the game, with an average score of 89. I've only just started, so don't go expecting a number from me quite yet. I've reviewed the past few games though and I do fully intend to do this one too.

For those of you who might not have been keeping track, Fortune's Weave marks the tenth major Nintendo-published title for the Switch 2. These are, in order of release, Mario Kart World, Donkey Kong Bananza, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment, Kirby Air Riders, Mario Tennis Fever, Pokemon Pokopia, Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox, and most recently Splatoon Raiders. I own every game on that list outside of Yoshi (I'll probably get that eventually!) and I can say I've had a pretty great time with them all. But would I consider there to be system-defining games there that'll see consoles flying off the shelves? One or two. For me, those games would be Mario Kart World and Pokemon Pokopia. Maybe a controversial opinion on the first one there, but the fact remains that Mario Kart is one of Nintendo's best performers, with World having sold more than 15 million copies at this point. It's always going to be tough comparing it to the predecessor but the game does stand on its own merits in my eyes. With some luck it'll continue to get better over time too, just as Mario Kart 8 did. Time will tell on that one though.

The real surprise of those titles will probably be Pokopia for a lot of people. It feels like it came out of nowhere and kicked up an absolute storm of positivity, getting its own console bundle pretty early on. I did review this one if you're curious for some more in depth thoughts, but it's all the good parts of Animal Crossing blended with all the creativity of Dragon Quest Builders, all with a coat of Pokemon paint. I knew from the start that I'd love it, but I'll admit the broader positive reception was a shock. Now with more DLC on the way and seasonal events to keep people playing between their major construction projects, the game still has more to give.

And that brings us to now. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is undoubtedly a colossal game, with reviewers being surprised by just how much there is to do. The game brings in some pretty refreshing graphics, pairing it with new control schemes, new mechanics, and as good a soundtrack as ever. I'm maybe two hours in so far and I can't wait to play more. So I put the question to you folks, do you think this will be the Switch 2's next major hit? With the site having recently regained the ability to throw polls onto the front page, you can cast your vote. Though discussion is naturally always encouraged too.

Do you consider Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave to be a system seller?

There's really no doubt in my mind that the game is good, but with a lot of criticism on the forum for the Switch 2 being that it lacks those big games to make the system worth picking up, I'm interested to know whether people think this one manages to cross the line. If you're already playing, let me know how you're getting on.

I've always loved fire emblem, Three Houses was the first one I played since 3DS, and it blew me away. I wouldn't say I'm a super fan, but I've never played a bad one (I did skip Engage though...). With that said, I don't own a Switch 2 and wouldn't buy one for this alone.

Maybe if they release a new main Zelda game I'll consider it

for me its really hard to see something that would sell me on the switch 2. having really enjoyed the switch 1 and alot of other nintendo products the switch 2 seems like the least nintendo branded system and more like a shinra like takeover of a company.

nintendo got away from its mission of entertainment. they arent totally to blame but they did alot of things that they should have done different. alot of it was reactionary where they led themselves down the line of following the mantra of one bad apple spoils the many. they focused on too many single bad apple situations and really spoiled the entire tree.

the entire gaming industry just doesnt feel the same as it did a decade ago or even just a couple years ago.

ive played fire emblems and generally enjoy the different games they have released so hearing good reviews gives me hope that one day ill find a way to play it cheaper in a system like a PC or another system that doesnt give me such negative vibes as the Switch 2.

the only system seller for me is Zelda OOT remake, quite literally since I will buy a Switch 2 console for it when it comes out.
it's the first system seller on this console and it comes after a year and half ... sigh

I don't think I've played much Fire Emblem or many games like it after Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume, other than a couple of Disgaea games, and even then, it was maybe 3 games. I do remember playing one of the FF Tactics games and enjoying it.
To be fair: VP COP, is not a very well liked entry, for many reasons, so it probably wasn't the best place to start with SRPGs

With Fire Emblem it really depends tbh, I started with blazing blade.

Nowadays I prefer just replaying FFT games,

though I do think for me personally a fire emblem game being a system seller has to really be good for it to be one, I just don't see it for this one unfortunately.

That and it's much more niche compared to other franchises.

I never liked Fire Emblem to begin with (that's not because of Super Smash Bros.) I actually tried multiple games, but it doesn't appeal to me. Only FE: Heroes I like in some sense, but that's because I like the story more then the gameplay and I use auto play. I like RPGs, but tactical RPGs aren't really my thing.

I really like Shining Force III, but Fire Emblem just doesn't appeal to me from what I've seen of it over the years. Same genre of course.

I say yes and I would have bought it right away if I didn't have Three Houses and Three Hopes to finish still :P

I'm more of a story guy when I play jrpgs but so far from what I read about the story (I really don't mind that much spoilers), this game just isn't for me. 3 houses didn't even click for me too so I doubt I'd enjoy this one. The titles that I really enjoyed playing was during the 3DS era, mostly Awakening and Shadows of Valentia (didn't like fates that much too).
I am entirely on the same page. I wanted to like 3 houses, but the game play felt like I was in some Harry Potter crossover rather than a strategy game.

For a while I've been really tempted to buy a Switch 2 for this new Fire Emblem but finally decided against it, so no :rofl2:
