Is it possible for me to PICK A MAC ADDRESS and share that to a friend, who mirrors that MAC address, so we can TAG EACH OTHER specifically?

Yep you can do that. For example, you could have your friend just give you his router MAC - and you could spoof it, and he would only have to change his SSID to "attwifi" (and open security) - and you'd be able to tag each other.

Yeah it's a good way to StreetHomePass with semi-non-technical people who don't want to mess around with spoofing. They just change their SSID, open wireless security and find the MAC address of their router (usually on the bottom of the router) -- then YOU do the technical work and spoof their MAC address from your side :)

Of course, it's only a one way street. As long as you keep the MAC quiet, you and him will be the only ones able to swap data (every 8 hours).

KaleoOmega's thing doesn't work. Android 4.1 doesn't have .nvmac.info file. It does have "/efs/wifi/.mac.info" and "/data/.mac.info" and changing both does show new MAC address on settings but it's still default when connecting. After some googling the feature should be enabled by the kernel and I'm using stock with root. Android Wifi Tether doesn't work in any way at all! Either it doesn't make anything, connects to some wifi instead of creating one or creates hotspot but doesn't show up on any devices. (Galaxy Note)
On Windows side I have two wlan adapters and every tutorial just makes things worse and I had to restore my machine becouse of one tutorial. Maybe I should try with Linux when I have time.

ATTENTION To that one that's making the shirt MAC's and game based macs please pm'me so i can add them to the list

I'm concerned the shirt MAC's won't hold up properly. I wouldn't post them on the spreadsheet. When they get posted on there, the massive amount of people that view the sheet will just spam them for StreetPasses, and not care about the shirt colors. That will be really hard to police.

But the game based MAC's are good.

I'm using Win7 with two WLAN adapters, one built in (Atheros) and a USB wlan adapter. My wireless router feeds me internet through the internal wlan, and the USB wlan (together with its own software access point utility program) sets up a working access point, which I then spoof.

Yeah... it seems everyone has limited success with any of the tutorials. I'm afraid they are not "one-size-fits-all" guides. Everyone has a different situation, and different setup. Almost makes me wonder if I should even post the tutorials on the spreadsheet. But I felt that it's better than having nothing up there. I'll add a disclaimer though....

Have you tried the busybox method?
Btw it's weird that only my phone has the config file. :)

I think I figured out the TWO things that need to happen.

1.) You need to be able to make a working Nintendo Zone on whatever setup you can. Some do this straight out of the router, some on phones; I had to do it on a laptop with two WLANs (although I can use a wired connection and a WLAN).
2.) Whichever device is transmitting that working Nintendo Zone, you need to be able to change/spoof that device's MAC address -- so if your access point is from the router, spoof the router.

Yeah it's a good way to StreetHomePass with semi-non-technical people who don't want to mess around with spoofing. I can't believe this. Of all the things... my friend's MAC address begins with 00. And I can only use x2, x6, xA, or xE. Goddamned Windows.

His router has an option to change MAC addresses, but for some reason it doesn't stick.

Whoa, the strangest thing just happened. Experimented a bit with the Android Wi-Fi Tether app (version 3.4 experimental), using my Samsung Galaxy S2. I changed the setup method to "Native Framework Tether". Then did all the settings like the other post in this thread recommends, so with the Mac Spoofing and such (prime MAC 4E:53:50:4F:4F:46). At first I had a problem that the network was called TetherFallback or something like that. Anyway, since my phone's native tethering was on, I decided to go to it and I changed the name to attwifi. It automatically quit tethering and then started up again.

First I tried to connect my PC to it, worked fine. Then checked my 3DS and noticed that the Nintendo Zone was glowing. I could connect to it and it brought me to that page that says it's coming soon. So I restarted my 3DS, put it in sleep mode and then it started downloading stuff (Wi-Fi tether showed it). I thought YESH!, but I thought too soon... the blue light lit up on my 3DS and I was disappointed. I thought it was just a regular spotpass. When I opened and checked the 4 spotpass messages... well, there was something really odd about it. I'm Dutch... the Spotpass messages I received were for Americans or UK people.

Yar, I basically figured out how to get foreign spotpasses...

Still no luck using Homepass :(

I did, but it says that applet ifconfig is missing. It says I have busybox 1.21.0-jb.

It's then regular hotspot without MAC spoof. You can look the log and see there isn't MAC spoof in place.

Ok... I really need some help here.... I have tried elridge's Win7 tutorials posted on here and am about ready to toss this laptop out the window. I can get the virtual connection to show, I run the macshift command to change the MAC of the wireless connection ((disconnected) while connected wired on the same laptop) and the virtual connection disappears, then when I run virtual router I get the error "The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation" and everything fails.

Here's something that may help people who want to send their less techie friends MACs streetpasses. The stickers on the bottom of Linksys Routers (that I have access to anyways) only the show the MAC for the LAN and not the Wireless MAC. To figure out the wireless MAC without being there, just add 2 the last Octet.
Example: if the sticker shows 12:34:56:78:90:46, then their Wireless mac is 12:34:56:78:90:48

Not sure if that's common knowledge, but just trying to throw that out there.

Whoa, you're right. AND RIGHT NOW I'M REALLY HAPPY! Your comment really helped, because I decided to change profile in the app to Samsung Galaxy S2 instead of Generic ICS (wlan0). I did all of the checks (log, terminal to see if spoof worked). Then connected to Nintendo Zone. And then I saw it was download more data than usual. Thanks :)

So Android folks who are having the same problem as I am... try selecting a different profile in the Wi-Fi Tether app. The one I used is my own phone.

Yeah. It was happening as Phaerun said, even with Keyra's config so I thought that it is an issue of CM 10.1 and I decided to flash my phone back to stock, but in the process it gave me error and now my phone is dead. When I get it fixed I'll try again, I guess. :(

you have not kept any backups ? :( always always backup your current working before flashing any new firmware :(

so yeah besides the purple pieces I think it is totally AWESOME that you can streetpass ppl from all over the world and open new areas in the maps.
Wish there was the globe icon and maps for every country though :(
But yeah it is great. I have encountered 3 regions in Sweden and one in Poland which I didn't knew they existed. totally awesome this.

EDIT: guys I am trying to make a smt iv card.. but I do not know how. Am I too early in the game per chance ? ( just finished the kiccigiorgi village).
