Hi there.

If you are not aware of this slot 2 expansion flashcart, it's a GBA flashcart with embedded NOR and PSRAM memory.
It require a slot 1 flashcart to send games to its memory and it's mainly used on a dslite.
Since the day it has been released we have seen 3 versions of it. The ez 3in1 v1, v2 (aka new edition) and v3 (aka Plus edition). More info on this great topic.

All of them has a common point : 16MB of PSRAM, which mean you can't flash GBA games greater than 16MB in this fast memory. You have to use the NOR memory which is quite slow to write.

Now, what is your opinion if we get an ez 3in1 with 32MB of memory for both NOR and PSRAM ?

Please vote. I'm interested in your opinion. Don't hesitate to comment your choice too.

Thanks.

Yeah!!!
I really want to have a 32 mb or even 64mb (for ram expansion). I lke so much my gba collection even i don't play with they those days.
Because the new size for chips may be that the new version may have mSD slot or/and motion sensor, don't you? (wonderfull the first option these days but the second for me is great, sure!)
About the software i like the supercard option to able non-rumble games to get it. It don't play ever (but most yes) but i think is enought to me.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to charge a little more and add a better battery. I like the 32mb of psram idea.
Better battery would be rechargeable.

But even then, the EZ-Flash IV would still be better.

Its not difficult to replace, but its more a annoyance really. Some have reported they receive the unit, probably in storage for a few years new with a dead battery. As far as the EZ Flash IV its irrelevant to the subject regarding a redesigned EZ 3in1.

It's not really about the annoyance of replacing the battery.
It's more about "you don't know the battery is dead until you lose save files"

Why is it irrelevant when the 3in1 is basically a stripped down EZ-Flash IV?
There still is no real point in buying that one when there are other EZ-Flash carts that do the job a lot better.

No need to get defensive. I'm not sure what you are getting at but its well established the stock battery that comes with the 3in1 is fairly weak and doesn't tend to last all that long. Its irrelevant to the subject matter in this thread, we are talking about possible improvements to the 3in1 (i.e. 32mb psram) if in fact a new model is a possibility in the future. This is not a fan boy contest as to how it compares to another cart such as the EZ IV.

Best Regards

Personally I think it'd be rather nice since you'd be able to launch 32MB games without having to flash them to NOR. Not that there are that many 32MB games, but it would be nice nonetheless to have that kind of option if you ever need it.

I very much doubt I'd get another just for that though, I already have more than enough slot 2 carts for my personal use

They should at least make them have a rechargeable battery... But that would never happen.
And no, saying the IV is better than the 3in1 is not a "fanboyism contest"
The EZ-Flash 3in1 is the exact same thing as the IV regarding GBA games, except it doesn't have a mini/microSD slot. They're produced by the same flashcart team.

I merely stated that even if this version of the 3in1 was to come out, the EZ-Flash IV would still be a better choice if you were to buy a slot-2 cart.

Given the lack of DS games supporting rumble and the lack of homebrew taking advantage of the extra RAM the 3-in-1 really is mostly only useful for GBA games... And I'd much rather see the rebirth of the EZ3, except w/ a microSD slot instead of NAND (or an EZ4 w/ a RTC and RTS if that's what you would prefer to call it) than a new version of the 3-in-1.

I agree with you.
And to what's in the parenthesis... I'd rather see the EZ3 come back to life with a miniSD slot rather than an EZ4 with RTC and RTS.
The EZ3 is just... better.

Just compare:

EZ-IV.jpg

Plus, the EZ3, along with SRAM, supports EEPROM and FLASH save types, as far as I can tell by searching with Google.

I have both, the EZ4 is an EZ3 w/ certain GBA-centric features stripped to make it cheaper and the NAND obviously has been replaced by the SD... What I meant was if you put those features back or replace the NAND in a EZ3 w/ an SD you essentially end up w/ the same cart.

Me real point is, if the EZ FLash team was thinking of releasing an upgraded 3-in-1, I suppose that's all well and good, but I wouldn't buy one or point any of my friend's at it. Like you, I'd point them at the EZ4 and if available an EZ3 over the EZ4 in a heartbeat. The only problem w/ the EZ3 was the price, replacing the NAND should make it quite a bit cheaper and the components in it should be cheaper now.

If they're going to put resources in to furthering products for playing GBA games, I'd much rather it not be the 3-in-1 but a proper cart like the EZ3.

Yup. Now we're going to have fun trying to make this EZ-Flash 3in1 Deluxe to work with anything other than the EZ-Flash V(i).

32MB of PSRAM would be nice for a handful of games. I would probably buy one.

Rechargable batteries especially button cell are not commonly used in low drain devices due to them self discharging. Although we do have LSD batteries now (unsure if button cell LSD are available) it would be expensive. They are trying to cut cost and maximize profit, and like you said it would never happen.

These batteries are small, and they do run out quite quickly. I wonder how many volt it is when we receive them.
It would of been nice if the GBA version had a bigger battery.

Well, while a rechargable battery is highly improbable, may be a battery slot to be easily changeable. Only unscrew flashcart, extract died battery and put in the new one, don't you think the same?.
About the microSD slot and PSRAM/NOR, i think that isn't bizarre get the three together. The new memory's chips are small that the ones in the time of EZ3in1 released, and about the use of each one PSRAM/NOR are very well solution to load games from slot1 meanwhile microSD slot let the flashcart be slot1 independent and load from it to the PSRAM/NOR itself.

Umm, I'm not trying to be a dick but what exactly is the point of this thread?
You're asking for peoples opinions on a hypothetical device that will probably never be released or even considered and isn't really needed anyways.
The 3-in-1 has already had 3 versions and most people who want one already have one and aren't going to buy a 3-in-1 v4
