All of the hinge issue (wobble AND squeaking noise) videos I've seen on Youtube are ALL Cosmo Black 3DSs, and some of the people that commented say they have the Aqua Blue and theirs doesn't wobble and squeak at all. Others say theirs (Aqua Blue) wobble a little but not enough to affect gameplay. I haven't read a comment where the person does not have any issue on a black 3DS. Maybe only black 3DS are dealing with this problem? This is pretty similar to those iPOD touches that were manufactured in different warehouses ( You can distinguish the iPODs by the serial #s).

Would you 3DS owners mind voting on the poll? I want to see how many Cosmo Black owners are/are not dealing with the hinge issues, and how many Aqua Blue (if any) are/are not dealing with the same thing. Hopefully this can help others who are planning on getting the system soon. I'm planning on getting it on Friday after I get my paycheck, and I don't mind which color I get, so long as the system isn't dealing with this problem. Thanks guys.

ok i got my black 3ds at best buy on launch day.. no lines either haha

ok this is exactly what i see.

I would consider my unit NOT to have any hinge issues at all.

I open the unit fold the screen all the way till it clicks in place. Seems solid

then i use my index finger to push slightly on the back and it moves up a bit. if i push harder it stops it wont go past the "click point" meaning its solid and wont close on me unless i actually grab it and shut it.

I would consider this slight wobble, perfectly normal and does not interfear with any game play.

And just to proove this further I just did the same thing on my DSI and it is EXACTLY the same

clicks in place, push my index finger up on the back it moves about a quarter of an inch or less then hits the hard part the "click part" meaning i have to push harder to close it back up..

Normal.

I think people think that if the screen is open its suppost be be perfectly solid in place. if that was true then why does my DSI have the same characteristics. I got it in december so its new.

This isn't the "wobble" people speak of. If you take your (3)DS, hold it in front of you, and move it forward and backward with the top screen perpendicular to the floor, does it squeak or wobble? If you hold the top or bottom screen parallel to the floor and move it up and down, does it squeak or wobble? The first and second click is a normal thing, and occurs in all systems, from DS Phat to 3DS.

Just so you know, I have Cosmo Black, and it wobbles and squeaks horribly. I'm hoping it'll eventually stop squeaking, because that's the part I can't stand.

My aqua blue does not have any such problems but my ds lite makes terrible click noise when you open it because I broke my DS lite hinge while playing NSMB!

I voted 'other'.

I'm on my third 3DS. The first 3DS had hinges were nice and stiff and sturdy. The second was wobbled so horribly that I returned it within 10 minutes after opening the box because the screen was so loose that it flopped closed on my 2 times while doing the initial setup. The third one is not as stiff as my first one, but it is reasonable where it won't just flop all around and it does take a little pressure to make it move.

All 3 are cosmo black.

I went with Cosmo Black, no wobble. I GUESS if I SHAKE the 3DS, it's like a very minor, unnoticeable wobble which I'm assuming is part of the design.

Which is 10 times better than my DSi XL. I was so disappointed with the wobbly on that one. Brand new out of the box, the screen wasn't even held in place. It was to an extent, you know, between the preset "notches", but if you tilted the DSi towards you the screen would like. Fall towards you. It sucked.

Slight wobble is fine, it's part of the system's design. I guess I should've added those options but I did this thread around 3 am and I was pretty tired to have even thought of it haha, sorry.

Kind of surprising that almost half of the voters are Cosmo Black owners that isn't dealing with the Wobbling issue. My question is, if you're one of the voters who voted for that option, does your system wobble a bit? Because if it's rock sturdy, the hinges are actually more prone to cracking, which is bad.

So I guess the wobble (and squeak) issues are all random. Are we allowed to test the system we want to buy at Gamestop before purchasing it? I figured they probably won't allow that if the box is sealed (is it sealed? The DSi wasn't when I bought it iirc).

omg i notice that mine squeaks. i never heard it before and now everytime i open the 3ds i hear it. it sometimes squeaks but it always makes a sound like the lid hinge is scraping against something--like it needs to be oiled up. its soooo annnoying. i might send this 3ds for a replacement for a fix later before warranty ends.

im pretty sure it was fine before. i think the squeak just manifested later on. did dirt get into the hinge or something....i took paper and slid it through the cracks but the sound is still there....
