This kind of script and acting only works in Japanese. In Japan it's not unusual for people to speak so monotonously, and melodrama in the media (movies, games, etc) is way more common than in the US. That said I can handle the game just fine when they're speaking Japanese but turn on that english dub and I seriously want to jam a fork in my ear

I'd second that.

Metroid has been a series that was never popular in Japan as it was in the West. I guess this could also be seen as Nintendo's attempt to make it more appealing to their local market...

I cringe when samus opens her mouth... anyone else feel that way?

No. Because cringe isn't a feeling, it's an action.

No, because he is implying that the emotion he feels when samus opens her mouth in other m makes him cringe, and wondering if anyone else feels the same emotion or a similar emotion that also makes them cringe. Also, I think you mean cringing isn't a feeling. Right back atcha, grammar nazi.

I don't think the voice acting is horrendous but it's by no means great. Ranges from incredibly mediocre to decent in my opinion. Most of the characters lack personality anyway, which sucks. :/
