Hacking NTFS or FAT32 usbloading

I am at the in laws, and have just setup their wii. I picked up a 320g HD and am getting ready to copy everything from my 250 wbfs over to either a FAT32 or NTFS partition. However, I have never used either, and won't have much time to do much testing, so which should I use FAT32 or NTFS. The only other thing I will put on the drive will be divx/xvid movies less than 2g, so most everything will be way less than 4g. But there are a few games over 4g.

I can't make up my mind, any input would be great.

Wii backup managers will split the .wbfs files automatically on fat32

and the game ripping to drive is much more stable on fat32.

Games can be split to fit in the FAT32 constraints, and FAT32 not only enables writing (for dumping etc.), but also allows you to use the partition for more homebrew apps than NTFS would allow.

Hi Maui, I haven't taken the plunge yet, still thinking about it.
One draw back or extra to do, is it will only work with cIOS222/223 mLOAD or with cIOSx Rev 19 or 20.
All else seems a plus.

FAT32. And if you format it with a 32kb Cluster, you can easely switch to SNEEK by only converting the games, if you have enough of the cIOS-Method (like me)

Use NTFS, if you format to FAT32, you drive is destroyed.
I've lost my USB Flash Drive because of format (FAT32), and i saving my USB Flash re-installed the U3 Launchpad and unistalled after. My USB Flash Drive does slower after this problem.

Your Drive don't have U3 to save your drive. You will have more carefully with fat32 drives. Or your drive has been destroyed.

Fat32 if the drive isn't being used for anything else. Personally I have mine formatted as NTFS as I use the drive for other storage also.

Use fat32 for the wii because only a few apps have ntfs support. I have my harddisk formatted with 200GB fat and 500 GB ntfs because I keep large files like pc backups and rainbowtables on the ntfs.

OR you could have a FAT32 partition as the first partition and a NTFS as the second. That way you get the advantages of both and lose most of the disadvantages.

You can not destroy a hdd/sdd/sd/usb-stick
by partitioning it, formating to a different filesystem, etc
of course you can destroy the files on it but you will always be able to get to a state whwere you can put new files on it.

Fat on USB-stick works fine

I dont know what you did wrong in the begining
but I have a pretty good idea what the cause of the slowdown is

1) most flash based media gets slower once data has been written to each sector (unless it supports trim)
if you did a full (as opposed to quick) fat/ntfs format thats your problem

2) flash based media needs partitions to start at specific places to be fast (alignment)
recent windows versions do that automatically, other tools might or might not

He's mentioning U3, which is the goofy flash drive system for holding portable apps... apples and pears difference between a flash drive and hard drive loading.
With suites out there like PortableAppz, there's not too much useful for keeping the stupid U3 parititions other than for installing rootkits and other crap if you've got physical access to a computer.

ive used both and i regretted starting with ntfs. its not terrible as long as you make a smaller fat32 partition. but i was with ntfs and fat32 for a while, wanting to go to total fat32, now that i did, i am very happy with it. its actually a lot faster for loading compared to ntfs. ntfs takes a while to seek, probably due to lack of support from the cios directly.

double bullshit! i have a fat32, ntfs and wbfs all on 1 drive and their still working all perfect! you must have just gotten shitty drive.

FAT32 for me. NTFS is note widely supported enough.

Or as stated, split into FAT32 for the Wii, and NTFS for PC Stuff, if you can be bothered keeping on moving the HDD around, which I woudnt do.

Better to keep the HDD just for the Wii, me thinks. =)

Has anyone else noticed a notable speed difference? I didn't even consider fat32 only because of split files and higher fragmentation.

if anything, fat32 is faster (some1 just reported that within the last hr in another thread)

the split files makes no difference, and 90% of wii games are under 4GBs so they do not have to be split
