Hi,

I got a Wii on launch, but have since moved overseas to the UK.

I got my Wii shipped over, but I am confused about updates etc.

I have a Wii Key and haven't updated it in over a year. (I think it is running 1.6b of something? - definitely 1.'x'b )

I am wondering if it is safe to update to the latest Nintendo firmware? or should I update the wii key first?

If I update to the latest Wii Key version, and then update the nintendo firmware, will all my backups run OK? (Yes, I do own the originals)

Is there anything I should be careful with with new Nintendo updates? I have been out of the scene for a while.

Many thanks for your help.

You have a launch Wii.
We know that you can install Bootmii as boot2 which is good.
You don't have to worry about an update you Wiikey has nothing to do with the systems processors, just the dvd drive.
I suggest you update to 4.1 following my guide.
As for your Wiikey, I'm pretty sure the latest is 1.9.
Just download the update iso and burn it to a dvd, then update it.
The order in which you update, Wiikey or firmware, doesn't really matter but i would update the Wiikey first, then update everything else.

i'm not a big modchip expert when it comes to wii, but i can tell you that your wii will still update via the american server, so you will have no issues with bricks and such

and as far as i know, nothing in the updates will harm your wiikey, you should still be able to update it after updatin the wii. in fact, i read a second ago that people are using 1.9g update on a wiikey on firmware 4.1

Thanks for the replies guys.

GBAtemp was the first place I ever saw torrents, and the IRC chan has always been helpful to me.

So there is no risk in not being able to play backups from updating?

Thanks again.
