So I just downloaded DMP today and out of what I have tested it is easily the best in my opinion. However I wanted to download/create themes for it and found out that it is no longer under development per it's homepage at http://www.dragonminded.com/?inc=projects/Projects

Name: DragonMedia Player
Status: Abandoned (2008)
Platform: Nintendo Wii
Language: C++
Description: Was an attempt to dabble in an object oriented model of media players. Frustration with information hiding amongst the inner circle of Wii hackers lead to my abandonment of the project. Wasn't really going anywhere anyhow, so nothing was really lost.

Now I did find a few themes on http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Homebrew_apps/DragonMedia_Player but nothing that really caught my eye... From what it looks like all I would have to do to make custom themes is to find a theme layout I like and then swap the JPG image files and put new ones in a new theme folder, easy enough. I'm sure I could do a custom layout, but dont feel like editing XML or whatever is used in this case.

Before I take the time to make a new theme I am wondering what the rest of the community uses for AUDIO files on the Wii. If your selection does well with video too that is a bonus but I've been very happy with GeeXBox for video though it has a long startup time.

*MiniMP3 Player didn't work for me at all (got an error)
*MPlayer CE was very slow working with large directories
*MPlayerWii was too basic and not a GUI if I remember correctly

Audio Player wants:

-Dark Theme preferred
-Random play option
-GUI (not dos-like)
-Volume adjustment would be a plus but not needed
-Visualizations also a plus but not needed
-Read from USB is a must
-Read from DVD would be a plus

Last note, I've been trying to use Orb (www.orb.com) which is a utility that streams audio/video/images to a custom homepage that is accessible from the any internet accessible device including the Wii however I believe that the slow connection from my Ninty USB WiFi connector is preventing this from working properly.

Still with me here? Cool, post your thoughts! Thanks much!

Orb sux! its ok but the picture is too pixlated for me. Mplayer.62 is the one that I use regularly. It plays a variety of files right from a usb or flash drive.

i use both orb and geexbox, geexbox has the better picture but orb gives you wireless and if its setup rightyour media and all of your freinds as well, for me it comes down to how much media can i get to play on my wii and a 10tb media network rocks

Those of you that use MPlayer CE 0.62 or MPlayer .62 or whatever, don't you find it slow as hell if you try and open a directory that has a couple hundred files in it? I dumped a bunch of MP3s into a folder and it took probably 2 minutes to list them, whereas DragonMedia Player shows them instantly...

Dunno, maybe I'm doing something wrong with MPlayer but I'm not sold on it.

Thanks for the input though.

So does MPlayer CE if you enable SMB sharing

Streming media to my Wii from PC right now.
yeah and the smb is so much easier to setup than orb. Plus it streams video over network in full quality and not that shitty flash video quality.
Mplayer CE is the best by far. I used geexbox before but the long loading time and the lack of wifi streaming wasn't good enough for me.

Can someone give me a step by step to upgrade mplayer from .5 to .62?
My wii is 4.0

I'd suggest using the Homebrew Browser and let it handle it for you. The HBB has come a long way and is quite an awesome app if you have your Wii online.

Well i just upgraded through the HBB and it loads up great but it no longer detects my flashdrive or external harddrive. Any ideas?
