I have just tested 43 games on my External HD (Imation Apollo 320GB usb2.0) installed over 3 days. Used a renamer and a gui through windows vista. Just installed one game throught the Wii just to see how fast it was.

Yesterday I had one codedump with scarface, reinstalled today and it worked just fine. This all was before I read this post. After reading this post I went testing all the 43 games I had installed on the HD. Just one game codedumped on me (Rockband 2). I dunno if it worked before I didn't test. Even with Scarface I started it for the first time so dunno if it worked before.

Its wierd to read and not having this major problem. That's the same thing with reading that people have freezing problems. Are your suffering from that problem to? I can play games from the HD without any freeze.

I hope Waninkoko is obsurving these simptoms/problems to make the USB loader even better. As for now in my situation its working as it should. But maybe the problems wil come later. If someone want help with testing I be glad to help you guys.

My system: Wii bought december 2008, D2Pro hardmod, System 4.0E (official update), IOS 249 rev9, Patched IOS60, Backup Launcher Channel 002 fix, USB Loader Channel with changed background.

EDIT: Useing maximillion's GUI, my HD came out of the box and directly on the WII and formatted it through USB Loader 1.1, so dunno if it was FAT32 of NTFS, or just unformatted. My first guess would be NTFS.

After u reinstalled Skarface or Rockband did u check all ur games again to make sure they are working? And no, I don't have the freezing problem. I'm installing a game via the windows app right now to see if that will corrupt the files. All my games installed via wii have been working.

So far, all 19 of my games are working.

I installed 13 of them via the wii and 6 of them via the PC using wbfs_win and carmillo's (sp) gui.

I'm using a WD 400GB passport, plugged it directly into the Wii and formatted it to wbfs using USB Loader 1.0 and loaded each of my 13 games on it.

Made sure they all worked, got the wbfs_win tool and the GUI and hooked up the hdd to my windows 7 (7068 x64) machine, ran the GUI and extracted all 13 of my games to a folder on my hdd for archive purposes.. then proceeded to add 6 other games over the next couple days, connecting the hdd back to the Wii each night and making sure some games still worked.

I've got 47GB taken up of my available 372GB, 19 games installed.. some NTSC-U and some NTSC-J and all are working using a channel made out of Loader 1.1.

so its random but in my case just one game at the time, first scarface, reinstalled, then rockband, reinstalled now Godfather. I'm getting tired of testing. But it is a problem that is consistend so maybe waninkoko knows te sollution.

Or the problem lies with WBFS_win? How kan we open the External drive in windows with WBFS filesystem? Then I could check godfather map en see if there is corruption or something. With the early MP3 players there were problems when we deleted separate files, and adding files. At that time we only could delete all en insert all news ones. Maybe this is the problem right here right now. Sorry for my bad english.

Did u install it using PC app or on the wii itself?

I had that problem once, but it was soon after I'd switched from 1.0 to 1.1 so I thought that might have had something to do with it. I had added 5 or so games one after another via Wii.

But since then I've not run into that problem.

Well I installed about 7 games and I have not had any problems yet. Either the corruption occurs randomly or it has to do with something we have not pinpointed yet.
These are the differences b/w the first time I used loader (had errors) and the 2nd time (no errors so far).

1st
- Partitioned a NTFS USB drive into 2 partitions, where 2nd partition was for Wii
-Formatted 2nd partition to WBFS on COMPUTER
- Used left USB port on Wii
2nd
-This time 1st partition was for Wii (it was FAT32). Formatted to WBFS on WII
-Used Right port.

I don't know if any of the differences fixed the problem, but it's worth a shot if you are having code dumps/ret =0 's.

Bluebird I used the PC installer that works way faster then dumping through the Wii. If it just occurs with one game at the moment then its not a big problem. But its weird that its occuring. Maybe it has something to do with clusters on the hd?

Sorry for double posting.
Update:
I installed 6 games all from the wii. Using the right usb port instead of the left (probably doesn't make a difference). And this time none of them messed up . I'm now going to try and install a game from my PC, if that causes one of the games to code dump or rev=0, that means that adding iso's from computer corrupts some of the files on the usb.

got 10 games installed, formatted WBFS via Wii and no issues, a few were installed using machell's gui rev7 tool and the rest were Wii dumped.

why the hell did you put rock band 2 on there when instruments cant be plugged into USB ports when using the USB loader anyways??

unless of course you're using GH instruments

We urgently need a verify function when

a. Transfering Games with PC (byte compare the ISO)
b. Transfering games with WII (verify with disc)
c. build a checksum on ISO + WBFS File - so we can check integrity in future ...
(push 1 button in USB-Loader - verify all Games with checksum ...)

This is a serios problem ! We can not delete any isos on pc until 100 % safety is garanteed on wbfs

I don't think you'll get the safety or guarantee you seek. This seems to be a "basic" filesystem. No management no checks, indexing etc...like, ext, fat, ntfs...etc....think of it like UDF commonly used on optical media. The structure is typically meant to be written to once therefore there is no mechanism to check it for fragmentation, overwrites etc.....It's my current ignorant explanation and theory. Think of it as burning a multi-iso cd/dvd only on some flavor of USB storage. I wish kwiirk would give more specifics on the specification of the WBFS file system regarding it's method or writing and limitations. I am going to treat it as if it is a multi-session CD. When you populate your storage with games make sure they're games you want to keep on it. Does my theory make sense to others?

This should be relatively easy to test. Here are a few test scenarios that would confirm this.
Test 1)
Install games A B C D E
Delete E
Install F
Test A B C D F. These should all work still

Test 2)
Install games A B C D E. Game A is 1 GB, Game B is 2 GB, Game F is 2GB in size.
Delete A
Install F
Test F B C D E. Game F should work, but B should fail.

Test 3)
Install games A B C D E. Game A is 1 GB, Game B is 1 GB, Game C is 2GB, Game F is 3 GB in size
Delete A
Install F
Test F B C D E. Games B and C should fail

Test 4
Install games A B C D E. Game C is 1GB, Game D is 2 GB, Game F is 2GB
Delete C
Install F
Test A B F D E. Game D should fail

Test 5
Install games A B C D E. Game C is 1 GB Game D is 1GB Game E is 1GB, Game F is 4GB
Delete C
Install F
Test A B F D E. Games D and E should fail

Test 6
Install games A B C D E. Game C is 4 GB. Game F is 1 GB
Delete C
Install F
Test A B F D E. All games should still work

I think this test procedure can definitely determine if the file system behaves in the way you predict.

The reports of 1 or 2 games not working seem to correlate well with this theory. I would predict that deleting a game then installing something as huge as SSBB would obliterate 5-6 games down stream as most Wii games are relatively small.

interesting,

did everybody with corrupt games use windows?
or has it happened to Linux and/or osx users?

i'm wondering if it could be related to the size-estimate bug on wbfs under windows that was mentioned in another thread.

to save anybody searching,
in windows any iso over 4gig is listed as being 4gig smaller than it really is - is this error being written to the drive in any way?

btw, i tested the Linux & osx wbfs and the bug isnt present.

You're probably experiencing a different problem or you deleted a game while using 1.1 and you didn't see the consequences until now.

And the bug is fixed, but if you've already corrupted a game you have to reinstall it.

i havent actually used the corrupt game since before i deleted a game a few days ago so i think you are right, would it be at risk of happening again now if i delete the game that isnt working?

i'd say that if you deleted a game with 1.0 or 1.1 or wbfs before the fix then your drive cant be trusted and you should probably wipe it & re-install.
i know you didnt want to hear that, but it's just the way it is.

i'd add one thing, dont do this till this other bug is traced & fixed.

well i just found a gui that worked for me
smile.gif

i used wbfs rev9 to extract all the working games from my hard drive, i then formatted the drive with wbfs rev9 and put the games back on it, do you think that this will have fixed any problems that may have been caused when i deleted the game with usb loader 1.1?
