Gaming Bob's New Stand

I have an interest in indie developed games and have been loosely following the saga of 'bob's game' production.
After watching one of his newest videos, I'm really impressed on the amount of hype he alone has been able to generate for his game.

I hate to say it, but i did fall into his viral marketing campaign; as i also, like many others, did believe his character he created for himself to portray.

To me it looks like he built this game based on how all these events would unfold. (setup to fail on purpose)
I'm thinking this game is going to be a giant comment on the gaming industry and hopefully a huge leap in indie development.

The concept is making more sense, he acts like a total dick (which he wants us to assume), to;
1 - generate hype
2 - build a character
As he mentions, 'Bob' is the final boss of the game. This Bob character already has alot of haters, who would want more to defeat this character more, than the people assuming he is a dick?

whats everyone's thoughts?
I assume from watching the video that his game is based on 'Yuu' (the typical game developer) trying make a game for development and finally sell on a popular system.
Me-thinks the main character maybe might decide to find 'new' methods of getting his game out there?
Interesting concept, definitely something that in my opinion hasn't been done yet and might even make an impact on the gaming industry, even if it only breaches the indie scene.

also the fact that people like myself are created topics means his viral campaign is working, and when sites like IGN and joystiq start documenting him, you gotta think this guy knows what he is doing.

If he never acted like this, would everyone have followed his game's saga as closely?
It's like reality TV, we all love to hate it, but still secretly we watch it at home.
Do you think maybe your reaction is exactly how he wants you to be reacting?

Yeah he has kept alot of the game 'in the dark' atm. I would be interested to see how the bottom screen is used, maybe it has something to do with coding? (thats assuming the main character is a game developer).
Maybe yuu learn new techniques of codes to implement ingame?

So you don't want to play the game because not enough has been revealed for your liking?
Not knowing actually makes me want to play it more, not knowing keeps me interested.

Though i still do understand your point, why take advice from someone about a game when they are;
A- a jackass and,
B- the developer

after reading into it, i am more interested in how the game relates to all this viral marketing as apposed to the gameplay.

I understood this topic fully, but I happen to be one of the few people who truly doesn't like assholes, arrogance, or reality TV junk (I watch PBS if I ever watch TV at all). I'm turned off from his talent DUE to the fact he's an asshole. He doesn't deserve our attention or praise and he won't be getting mine. This entire thing with his drama has become a fiasco. And most of all, his game isn't even the point of his existence anymore. We don't hear about the game much anymore. We just hear his rants on how the game industry is evil, him tearing his room apart, him showing off things only he knows about.

Yes, people would have listened to this guy MORE if he'd been humble and such. It's ok to be proud of your work and promote it in a dignified and respectful way, but not the way Bob is doing. He's only famous for his arrogant jackassery, and his game has become a shadow to his antics. I mean, the game really isn't talked about anymore. All you hear of is Bob acting like a retard, nothing about his game. It's gone away from "Bob's Game" and become "Bob's Life as a video game industry bashing, room wrecking, bitch whining, gimptard". I saw his game trailer, and that's all I ever saw of the game again. It's just his bitchy life story now.

Then you have games like Cave Story which have become famous because they are awesome games. They didn't need some asshole acting like a 5 year old to have a good and well known game. Pixel is a humble and great guy who never acted like an arrogant jackass or drama queen to promote his game, and here it is being developed officially as a WiiWare title! Who'd have thought.

In conclusion, he should focus on the game itself, not say it's awesome (let the gamers decide that), and stop being an arrogant jackass.

...i have been saying this whole time, him being an 'arrogant jackass' is actually him building a character in his own game. Think, if he is building all this attention around himself on top of his game, then things like 'Bob is the final boss' make more sense.
All this 'video game industry bashing, room wrecking, bitch whining, gimptarding' (your words) is creating a prologue to a story about his game, which directly involves everything that he is distributing...allegedly.
eg. what if 'bob's game' and 'bob's life' are one in the same?

Regardless, people are taking, including you, hence him being successful in making his game and himself 'bob' viral.

Like I said, he's promoting himself, not the game. And he's making himself look bad. That doesn't fly well with me. I can't help but take notice when the threads are posted here like yours.

...never mind. Your opinion is obviously clouded by how 'Bob' wants you to think. I don't know how many times i can say the same thing to you, so i'll leave it at that.

Also when you name a game after yourself, anything you do is going to be synonymous with your product...isn't it? Hence you market yourself, your market your product. And he just happens to be marketing himself as the antagonist. Hence Yuu are the protagonist....allegedly.

Call me when he actually BEGINS promoting his game instead of himself. And no, marketing yourself does not market your game. The game markets the game. If he ever learns to show off the actual game instead of whining and telling people it will be great without showing us why, maybe then he would be worthy of some praise.

As it is, my eyes are not clouded as I am not the one buying into hype with no proof. His whining and claims of self greatness are nothing more than attention whoring. This promotion is about him and his obsession with himself, not the game. If the game were anything decent, he'd show us more of it. He'd also not need to claim it's good.

I actually think the same as TheStump and I think that almost since this started! (You can check my posts months ago, I sad the very same thing, that all this is part of the game and that Bob actually plays the game in reality)..

I think it's genius, and I wouldn't say that he's some kind of ego maniac, I believe he's very intelligent..He IS attention whoring, but not because he likes his image, but because he wants for to interest people into the game! Any game NEEDS attention, that's why he's getting it before game is even released!
Also, showing more of the game (then it's needed) would kill the secrecy around the game..

And I really think it takes great self-control in combination with total despise towards Bob, for one not to try out this game when it's released..I really think that 95% people that hate him and bash him now will probably try out the game, and I'm guessing that half of that will even like it!

Even if bunch of people wouldn't want to play the game, they will if game gets good reviews....
All in all, it comes to this: bob made a great move, and thousands (if not millions) over the worlds heard of this game even before it's release..It really isn't the easiest thing to do, you know! So when he releases the game, we'll have to judge on our own if we love it or not..

I would like to say I disagree to what you said right there. What makes you think that most people would want to try it?

I can say with certainty that I have no intention of wasting my bandwidth downloading this pile of crap when it comes out (if it ever does).

it looks like a simple text based game, where the whole game is driven my conversation and finding people in the game world. In addition, the graphics are not great, and everything abotu this game is sub-par when you compare it to a commercial game, even a CRAP commercial game.

Now really, why would you want to play this?

Of course some people would want to try it, but i really think the large majority of people only want to TRY this game, not really expecting to be anything special.

And it probably wont be.

GTA and FFCC on the other hand....

You didn't understand me quite right (I didn't express myself the best way)..
I meant to say, that many many people will want to try out this game just because of the stuff that Bob is doing all the time!

Game maybe doesn't look the best graphically and it is text based, but it looks that story might be really interesting..
Not all will enjoy game, but many people will want to try it..

If you are following anything about bob's game/life, you at least has some interest in what his game is about or how it plays.
Some can say all they want, but when push comes to shove, when he releases the game and people say its good, YOU WILL WANT TO PLAY IT.
There is no way people will NOT play it based on the fact that they think his is a dick.

I wanted to try this game when I first heard heard about it and that was quite a while ago.
then I forgot about it until this thread popped up and read the things he has been doing and it never affected how I think about the game because I don't fucking care about how the developer thinks or does, all that matters is the end product/the game.
If it ever comes out I'll just download and play and then judge if it is good or not, if it is good i'll just play it if not bad luckl I just delete it. Oh and for the people who say "this game is gonna suck because it just you walking around and talking to people and no action wathsoever" Ever heard of Phoenix wright? that is also a really good game which is also mostly text based.

BTW: I find it quite funny how the majority falls for his scene
