as long as you don't attempt to update the firmware of your cart with the official R4 firmware (if, in fact they release something after september), you should be ok. unfortunately, your flash cart, having a chip with a 0818 lot number is a fake, clone or knock-off.

I do believe I can clear all this up here. I do believe some people are upset at the discussion about the firmware. Isn't everyone entitle to their opinion though? Anyway about that "unnamed" person who PM one of the mods here, let me clear this up by saying we DO NOT drop ship. We have no need to drop ship. That picture is NOT our package.

We do everything in house. The labels we use on all our packages are the Blue Air Mail labels and green Customs form for all international packages. Return address will have the name Jason on them. We will not post a picture of the complete package because we're afraid the "unnamed person" might use it to try to discredit us.

Here's a picture of our R4's that's currently going out this week.

We also have a image of R4's that is in our inventory. They are shipped to us in bulk style from the factory. As you can see, we have no need to drop ship.

Ryo is one one of our past customers that we give commission to every R4 that he sells. So in a way, he's like a sales rep to us. Very enthusiastic, maybe too enthusiastic but nevertheless, he has brought us a lot of customers.

Anyway, hopefully, the pictures will be enough to discredit that "unnamed person" that is trying to give us a bad name.

As for the firmware, whatever Ryo mention is his opinion alone. We have no word from the R4 Team about this so we're not going to say if it will come out or not. Let us know how we can prove we only sell legit R4's. Perhaps we'll go as far as shipping a real sample to one of the moderators here if that's what it takes. Have one PM me and we will gladly do so.

The Deveno that posted above is the owner of some crappy online flashcart dealer. They drop ship their items from DX with marked up prices, and have been added to the list of dealers never to buy from.

RyoSaeba is the same guy, pretending to be a happy customer of Deveno's.

RyoSaeba has been posting in this thread trying to convince people that R4s are safe, and that legit ones still exist. An unnamed customer of Deveno's sent me a PM identifying RyoSaeba as the owner of that site, in addition to supplying evidence that he practices drop shipping and is selling fake R4s as legitimate. The RyoSaeba account was suspended, and a few hours later this Deveno account was created by a user on the same IP address which subsequently made the post immediately above, trying to discredit the unnamed customer. This account has been suspended as well.

Anyways, the matter is now resolved and discussion should continue as it was.

I've also bought 2 R4DS' from Deveno.com. I just posted this fact on http://r4ds-forums.com/viewtopic.php?f=38&...=a&start=90

Here is the picture of what I received from Deveno.com

I don't know if what I ordered is fake. I will say, the picture sent via PM of their package is so small, it could have been a package shipping anything from/to anywhere.

I don't know what drop shipment is.

I think I threw my RealHotStuff.com envelope away before I left the U.S. for a 2 week deployment.

I'll take a look at my carts and see if I can open them.. is it easy?

I have 2 from Deveno.com - if I can open them without damaging, I will post pics. Now, if someone can explain how to open without damaging.

EDIT: And is the R4 Team just saying that if you download our new firmware, it may brick your system? If that's the case, I just won't download the firmware/OS, keep with the one I have, and either just use it or my SuperCard DS One.

As for the picture above, the lining of the microSD is thicker on the fake, and thinner on the real. You can open up your R4 by simply removing the screw on the back of the R4 and carefully removing the top from the bottom, I used a flathead screwdriver, but I guess if you long nails you can do that too.

Ah, under the gold sticker? is yours is a flat head? Mine is a philips.. hrmmmm.. the plot thickens.

EDIT: Dude, that's a small screw.

I would say, to anyone shopping for an R4DS, don't buy.

I mean, I thought they stopped production, didn't they?

Wouldn't that mean, "Good luck finding one. If you do, it's probably a fake?"

The ONLY web site http://r4ds.cn/ (is that legti?!) refers you to in order to buy one is http://www.fundepots.com/ - and they're "OUT OF STOCK", as is most legit places.

Anyway, I just won't upgrade my R4DS. I don't really need to. The thing plays just about everything, right? And I have a SuperCard DS One that I suppose is legit.

Ah well..

EDIT: For the life of me, I can't find a link to the http://www.hacken.cc/bbs/viewthread.php?tid=295413 forum from the http://www.r4ds.cn website. Sorry, I'm new to all this. Are these two web sites related?

I'm no expert, but yours looks legit.. the 0817, the "ridge" on the inside of the back cover. Your MicroSD card logo appears to be "thinner" .. though tough to tell in the pictures.

"Wait, you put code in this to nuke fake R4DS carts!? What happens if there is a "glitch" and your new "update" kills my DS?!"

But EVEN if your R4DS card IS legit, if they intentionally put in malicious code to nuke a DS for "fakes", who on Earth would download it? If they did it, who is to say Nintendo wouldn't do it? Or put some code in their games that if the R4DS card is inserted, implement the R4DS "nuke option." Too many variables, and quite frankly, very stupid.

They could resolve the whole thing by putting info on their web site that most of the world can read and understand and stop this forum crap.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy an R4DS from anywhere. Time to move onto the next generation of carts.

r4ds.cn is not the official website, I dont think R4DS need google ad for income

but

r4ds.com - the official one , r4ds.cn and some fake website have two forum link at contact us (chinese page) and some fake site remove the contact page or remove the forum link at this month.

How do you mean "remove" by that?

I don't want to speak for him, but I think he means the fake website of r4ds.cn removed the link to the "legit" (?really? is there such a thing anymore) R4DS Forum. Apparently the fake web site of r4ds.cn had a link in the "Contact Us" section of their web site that led you to the "official" R4DS Forum.

All I know is, for what I use them for, my 2 R4DS from Deveno and my 2 SuperCard DS One's from RealHotStuff work great as is. I'm not too spun up about upgrading firmware when new carts are being released frequently, and they're relatively cheap for what you get out of them. So just move on to the next episode...

I honestly don't know who to believe anymore ... nor really care. I think I'm done with this subject.

I think you forgot the part where I said my cart has both indications of a legit and fake cart. But since there's some fakeness to it, I'll write it off as a fake. But it's fine the way it is, I've had 100% compatibility rate so far without arm7'ing anything so until a game gives me a blank screen then I'll label this as another chinese thing lol.

Greatest part in all this is it cost me nothing (gift certify incentives

)

New technologies mean new (sometimes) better flash carts. R4DS was good. Was.

wouldn't it make more sense to write a firmware that would delete the boot file like you know when you stick the r4 in slot2 backup tool

so if you had a fake r4 it wouldn't boot i mean blowing a fuse or deleting the ds's firmware is a bit harsh you dont see cyclo ds doing that.

if they added a new GUI or sd hc or a new feature that everyone need to try but it could possiblely brick there ds
