Okay, here's the run down. The other day a guy at the Pawn shop I frequent gave me a Wii to take home and take a look at. The pawn shop got it off some one who tried to soft mod the unit and failed horribly. I got the system home and plugged it in and was greeted with a grey screen. I have tried several video cable and a Wii HDMI upscaler. I have read that it could be the cable or TV that's causing the problem. However on closer inspection It might be that the soft mod was done wrong and some how I just need to be able to format the system back to default. I have seen videos on you tube of it being done. I have been doing soft modding for a long time now and this is the first time I have seen this.

Anyone have any ideas on how we can bring this poor Wii back to life?

I think the fact that we are getting a picture even though it's a grey one means there might be some hope, hopefully lol. Any advice or help someone can provide would be most welcome. :)

Okay, update, I went back and talked to the the pawn shop guy. So I went home and loaded up the Wii while holding the Reset button and bam. So, basically, here's what happened. The guy that sold the system kept the SD with all the files on it, this pressing any of the buttons turns the console off because it doesn't know what else to do.

So, I'd like to get the files needed to just format the damn unit and reinstall the OS. Think you guys could guide me on the right path? 🤔

Use a GameCube controller to navigate through the Priiloader menu.

Once you get into the Homebrew Channel, try to pair a wiimote to the console. If it fails, the bluetooth module is dead and will need to be replaced to get the console to boot into the System Menu.

Weird. HBC should be installed even without the SD card. It's even part of the Hackmii Installer.

Maybe someone with more experience with Priiloader can give an explanation?

I was thinking about just making a new SD with all the priiloader files and seeing if that fixes the problem.

If not I can try reinstalling the hbc and system menu via NUS? I don't see why it'd cause any more problems?

I think the issue here is that it's looking for the systemmenu and hbc but since the SD card that the original modder used is MIA it throws those two errors.

It's an old version of priiloader u have installed, and it won't know the title ID for updated versions of the hbc. Most likely it is trying to launch HAXX but the installed version (if it's installed) is something newer like JODI or LULZ.

The system menu not launching is a little more confusing, but hopefully reinstalling it will fix things. Just be aware that installing a new system menu using any tool other than yawm modmii edition will uninstall priiloader. U definitely don't want to lose priiloader access, especially not before the issue is fixed.

The sd card being MIA is not causing either of these issues.

To solve this, I'd start by using the load/install file menu. Start by using it to load the hackmii installer and see if it can install the hbc and/or bootmii ios or bootmii boot2. If yes, when u exit the installer it will take u to the hbc. From there u can run syscheck and share it here for further advice. Likely next step after that will be to reinstall a system menu for your region along with its system menu ios. you currently probably have 3.2 system menu installed, but u can install 4.3 with ios80 (ideally modmii's recommended ios80 which is really a patched ios60, as this protects against 003 bricks when upgrading poorly region changed wii's that were originally Korean to system menu versions above 4.1. If you check the serial number and it doesn't look Korean then stock ios80 should be safe too). You'd also want to update priiloader and cios and a few other things, so I would just drag and drop your syscheck.csv onto modmii.exe and it will tell you what to do.

So, I would like to uninstall everything done to the system. I am returning this back to the pawn shop after I have fixed it.

Will reinstalling the system menu wipe everything and allow the system too boot back normally? if so, that is the way I'd like to go. :)

Generally do not "uninstall" anything, just overwrite. If your goal is to remove visible traces of a softmod (recommended) then the process is a bit less risky. Just do as I advised above, then run syscheck, and drag and drop your syscheck.csv onto modmii.exe and it will tell you what to. Then to remove visible traces just uninstall custom channels using the wii settings data management menu.

If u want to removal all traces then you'd want to restore an ohneschwanzenegger generated nand backup for your wii, and afterwards if bootmii is installed as boot2, run the hackmii installer to uninstall it.

To access bootmii without it even being installed, make sure you have a bootmii folder saved to your sd card, then load the Casper app in priiloader. If you need help setting any of this up launch Casper2Bootmii.bat from Modmii's support folder. Then make a nand backup, use it as a base to build a new virgin nand ohneschwanzenegger, then restore that using bootmii too. More info here https://wii.hacks.guide/wii-factory-reset.html

It sounds like it is more of a pain than it is worth lol. I'll just keep it as is lol. It'll be an extra perk if anyone wants to buy a soft modded system lol.

Okay, update time. I get this when I try and install the latest firmware. Should I reinstall ios80?

I have also updated Priiloader to the latest version. Installed boot2 and reinstalled the HBC.

I explained 2 ways of installing 4.3, one was to drag and drop your syscheck.csv onto modmii.exe and the other was to ensure u install it along with ios80. You're lucky yawm stopped u from installing it.

That being said, since u have bootmii boot2 this wasn't a true brick risk in your particular case. Also, u can go down the ohneschwanzenegger route should u prefer with zero risk

Edit: and no idea why u would have a stub in ios80, someone went out of their way to do that. I'm curious to see a syscheck from this console
